Warning: contains spoilers for The Punisher series one.

The Punisher was arguably the most well-written Marvel-Netflix show produced so far, and that – combined with the company’s will to recommission shows regardless of reaction or performance – suggests that a second series of The Punisher isn’t so much a matter of if, but when.
But with Frank’s story so well wrapped up, where might it go?
A sequel season
Any second season of The Punisher would have to resolve some fairly large narrative problems, not least how to get Frank Castle – who has now satisfactorily avenged the death of his family twice – back into the saddle without it being a retread of previous ground. The comics version of the...

Discovery has been improving week on week, so it was inevitable that it might hit a quality downswing eventually. Temporary blip or regression to the mean? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
This week’s episode wasn’t terrible, of course. It was just a little generic. Broadly, I think everything on the planet was quite good (though I’d have liked a little more insight into the Pahvans, not to mention a more tangible design) while everything on Kol’s ship was bad.

When, in his Iliad, Homer described love as “Magic to make the sanest man go mad” he probably didn’t think that the line would be used some 3000 years later to provide the title of the best episode of Star Trek: Discovery yet. Frankly, such limited thinking makes me wonder just how imaginative he really was. But whether he wants the honour or not, he’s got it, because this was Star Trek at its absolute prime vintage best. If that doesn’t feel like Star Trek in all its wonderful, trope-laden glory, I don’t know what to tell you.

Spoilers! Explaining the post-credits stings in the new Marvel movie, Thor: Ragnarok...
Good news for anyone thoroughly invested in the ritual of sitting through ten minutes of increasingly obscure film credits for a couple of fanboy/fangirl thrills: Thor: Ragnarok has the now-customary post-movie stingers to both whet your appetites and bait your clicks with articles such as this.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 might have embarrassed other Marvel films with its succession of no fewer than five post-credits scenes, but don’t think that it’s going to be business as normal - Thor: Ragnarok is back to just two. But whether you ran out of the cinema to miss the crush or simply don’t know what you saw and need clarification, here’s our analysis. After the traditional spoiler image, of course.

Thor: Ragnarok leaves behind some spoiler-y questions. We're answering them right here...
Like any Marvel movie, you’ll come out Thor: Ragnarok with a series of questions about what happened, what you saw, and sometimes what you didn’t see. As ever, we’ve attempted to answer them.
Spoilers abound, of course, for Thor: Ragnarok. And not for the Infinity War footage, which we haven’t seen because it hasn’t been officially released and therefore constitutes definite spoilers. Please be aware - if you’re the sort of person who hoovers up spoilers - that not everyone wants to know something unless it’s been officially released.
Why could the Hulk talk?
In the comics, the Hulk has always had a fairly reasonable vocabulary, so this movie brings the movie version some way towards that. But really, the reason he’s able to talk is because...

Thor: Ragnarok is a Marvel movie that's less keen to play by Marvel rules. Here's our review...
One of the more valid criticisms levelled against Marvel’s films is that for all its claims of being filmmaker-led and tonally diverse, they’re increasingly unimaginative productions. Slick action scenes, a smattering of Whedonesque quips and the occasional fan-servicing cameo are all staples of any movie with the Marvel logo, and while that formula might prevent another (relative) failure like Thor: The Dark World, it also robs audiences of the chance to be truly surprised.
Enter Thor: Ragnarok, which gives proof, just as we need it, that Marvel Studios will still give movies the chance be surprising. The film is directed by Taika Waititi, a filmmaker made famous by his eccentric, genre-lampooning horror mockumentary What We Do In The Shadows. There’s no mistaking his fingerprints all over Ragnarok, with its constant...

This review contains spoilers.
See related The Punisher: what can we expect from a solo Netflix series? Daredevil season 2: examining Jon Bernthal's Punisher
1.5 Choose Your Pain
A lot of reviews right now are calling this the weakest episode yet, and while it’s hard to disagree with that… well, if this is the worst we can expect, it’ll definitely have the best hit-rate of any Star Trek show thus far. Between the appearance of Harry Mudd, the explanation of Lorca’s backstory and Burnham getting a definitive win by setting the Tardigrade free, this was an episode that put a lot of smiles on my face.
I’m increasingly intrigued by Lorca, who seems to have formidable and calculating strategic mind, but also a total lack of empathy.

1.4 The Butcher's Knife Cares Not For The Lamb's Cry
What a title this episode has. If Discovery has done nothing else, it’s brought back the spirit of the original series’ episode titles, which were essentially “how grandiose and Shakespearean can we be in fewer than 10 words”. Turns out: very.
Of course, it’s not completely without meaning. There are lots of butcher’s knives in this episode, and lots of lambs crying. Metaphorically, of course. The most Star Trek thing about this episode was Burnham’s insistence that science and compassion prevail over, like, randomly shooting stuff in the face.

As The Gifted digs into characters from the fringes of the X-Men world, we salute some of the franchise's finest humans...
The X-Men, as a franchise, is all about mutants trying to peacefully coexist with (and protect) the humans that hate and fear them. This means that there are a lot of human characters in the franchise – some of whom hate and fear the X-Men, and some of whom are the haters and fearers.
Fox’s new X-Men show, The Gifted, has already shown that it’s willing to use characters from the fringes of the X-Men franchise, and furthermore, unlike the X-Men movies, humans and mutants working together is built into its premise. The Strucker family isn’t 100% mutant, after all. (Well, so far as we know.) That got us wondering: aside from the ones who have appreated in the movies, which human characters from the...

As The Gifted brings the super-powered Strucker siblings to the screen alongside their (currently) unpowered parents, we got thinking: what other super-powered families are out there? Here’s what we came up with…
Power Pack
Created in the early 80s by Louise Simonson and June Brigman, the Power Pack were four super-powered siblings (with the surname Power, natch) who used to sneak out to operate as a team while keeping their identities secret from their parents. It was sort of like the Famous Five, but in the Marvel Universe. Throughout their run the swapped powers and codenames, but the siblings were Alex, Julie, Jack and Katie, and the powers were energy manipulation, mass manipulation, gravity manipulation and light manipulation.

Ahead of The Gifted starting this weekend, we take a look at the mutant families of the Marvel world...
The forthcoming X-Men universe TV show, The Gifted, will be placing its focus on a family dealing with the awakening of its mutant children’s X-genes. Of course, Marvel is no stranger to mutant families – the X-Men franchise is practically overflowing with them.
Within the X-Men comics, the unexpected twists, turns and revelations about parentage that make it near-impossible to keep things straight. I’m trying not to include alternate-universe characters unless they’ve had a significant impact on the 'real' Marvel Universe too, otherwise let’s face it – we’d be here all week.

For obvious reasons, episode 1 was all about setup and introductions - introducing the characters, the threat, the world they inhabit - and episode 2 was all about knocking that down. But they screwed up and got thrown in jail. Now we're pulling them out of retirement to go on one more mission!" and possibly describe some effects-heavy sequences. But this time, we actually get to see it! And feel it!

There's a brand new X-Men series coming - but who are The Gifted, exactly?
The Gifted is Fox's second adaptation bringing the X-Men universe to live action TV. Legion was very well made – visually terrific, clever and stylish, but it wasn’t too X-Men-centric. The Gifted? Though doubtlessly a more conventional take on Marvel's merry mutants, The Gifted could be the X-Men show fans have been waiting patiently for since at least the mid-90s.
As if to prove it, the show hasn't even aired yet and it already promises to be rammed with familiar names and faces. If you want to get up to speed on who (and what) The Gifted are, here's everything you need to know about the characters who have already been announced.

If Netflix continues to mine the Marvel seam, which characters might come in for the Defenders treatment next?
The Marvel-Netflix deal might have met its initial goal with the broadcast of crossover series The Defenders, but there’s no stopping that particular gravy train - future seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist are already on their way.

Marvel has already shows its willingness to add new characters to their roster of heroes with a Punisher series due to drop this year, and deals like New Warriors and Cloak & Dagger show that they’re not afraid of pushing D-listers into the spotlight to see what takes. So with the obvious choices already taken care of, we couldn’t help wondering: which characters should make up a second wave of Defenders shows?

Watching the first three episodes of Defenders, I was reminded of Milhouse in that episode of The Simpsons where they’re watching an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon where they’re driving towards a fireworks factory, only to be interrupted by Poochie, a character no-one cares about.

If episode 1 seemed low on action, episode 2 really gets straight down to it. The sequence of Matt giving into temptation and resuming his vigilante activity would’ve been a great capper to episode 1, but putting it at the start of episode 2 at least ensures there’s a good fight scene here.

Need a recap on what you need to know going into The Defenders? Here's all the important info from Iron Fist...
Excitement may be gearing up for The Defenders next month, but not everyone has seen every one of the Netflix shows. Indeed, if you skipped Iron Fist, you weren’t alone. The Defenders panel at Sdcc was the last big opportunity for Marvel to reveal any twist on the identity of Sigourney Weaver’s character ahead of the miniseries’ debut, and in true Marvel Studios fashion, they weren’t letting anything slip. We’ve seen a little of her, we know she’s someone important to The Hand – but right now, we’ve got no clue who she’s going to play. Spoilers, as we dig into the two post-credits sequences of Spider-Man: Homecoming...
In customary Marvel fashion, Spider-Man: Homecoming contains two post-credits scenes. And in customary Den of Geek fashion, we've written them up so that you can figure out what, if anything, they mean to the future of the universe and any forthcoming instalments. You can read what we think right after the spoiler squirrel- with, of course, spoilers for the whole of Spider-Man: Homecoming lying below said squirrel's nuts.
Post-credits scene one
What happens: the scene opens in a prison where Toomes has been sent following his capture. In a corridor, he encounters Mac Gargan, one of his former associates (he's the one who gets arrested by the FBI on the Staten Island Ferry) who has a large scorpion tattooed on his neck. Gargan tells Toomes there's a rumour that he knows who Spider-Man is, and...

Just a few answers to the questions that Wonder Woman leaves behind...
With strong critical and box office reception, it’s clear now that Wonder Woman is the movie the character deserves. Patty Jenkins may have managed to keep things a lot tighter than the last few Dceu films, but that doesn’t mean you might not have come out of the film with some questions.
Scroll past the spoiler squirrel to see them…
1. Who was Doctor Poison?
In the comics, Dr. Isabel Maru is one of the first ever Wonder Woman villains, introduced in Sensation Comics #2, where she works for the Nazis and creates a gas that can cause people to do the opposite of what they intend called 'Reverso' (it was, after all, a comic with all the narrative complexity 1942 can offer.)
That said, she was initially portrayed as (apparently) male before a last-minute reveal...
