The life of author and activist Eve Adams, an early chronicler of LGBTQ people in New York City, will be the subject of a TV drama in the works at Universal Television.
Gabe Dunn (Big Mouth) and Arika Lisanne Mittman (La Brea, The Irrational) are developing a drama based on The Daring Life and Dangerous Times of Eve Adams, a biography by historian Jonathan Ned Katz. Dunn will write the script and executive produce with Mittman and Matt Sadeghian; Katz is a consulting producer.
An immigrant from Poland, Adams (born Chawa Zloczewer) founded a literary salon and tearoom in Greenwich Village in the mid-1920s. The tearoom, known as Eve’s Hangout, was the first openly lesbian spot in the city. Adams also published the book Lesbian Love, a series of vignettes about women she had known and what Katz believes to be the first use of the word lesbian...

The constant refrain in Hollywood is that we need diversity, particularly when it comes to writers. Unfortunately, this is almost always quickly followed by shrugs of frustration that no one knows where to find unique voices because there are only so many options in the WGA. And therein lies the problem: showrunners, agents and other influential figures often realize that they need to find fresh voices from outside Hollywood, but they aren’t sure where to find them.

Reviewed by Peter BelsitoTwo estranged friends who have both dated the same guy accidentally kill him and fall in love with each other over the course of an evening.
With a nine minute run-time the short, Dick Sisters, gets right to it.
It starts off with a bang, literally, as one of the three characters in this contained setting does a very stupid thing with drugs, then falls down and dies.
It’s an accident, and as we quickly learn, the dead guy, Dick (Allan McLeod), was involved with both of the girls who now stand over his profusely bleeding body.
Tessa (Gaby Dunn) and Alli (Emma Myles) had a friendship that was previously sundered because of Dick’s efforts to seduce them both. Successfully… but both hookups ended badly, bad feelings.
Joined together by bizarre ciscumstance, these two women quickly realize their feelings exceed the bonds of friendship.

It's a precarious time for professional creators. In all of my years of being an attorney for YouTubers, I've never heard clients more anxious and cynical about their futures. They're worried about drops in ad revenue, competition for audience attention, and the ever terrifying question, “What will my career/business/life look like a year from now?” This isn’t a new concern for creators (see Gaby Dunn’s “Get Rich or Die Vlogging”), but it’s one that's growing and as our industry expands and becoming exacerbated by recent events.
Between the advertiser boycott, demonetization expansion, and content-censorship controversies of late, there's plenty to be concerned over. But within all problems lies opportunity. That's why I've teamed up with YouTube veteran Michael Buckley to launch the first Independent Creator Summit, ClamourCon this May 9-11th in Palm Springs, CA. Before the Ice Bucket Challenge, there was “Super Size Me.” When little-known filmmaker Morgan Spurlock challenged himself to eat at McDonald’s for every meal, three times a day, for thirty days straight, he anticipated the era of viral marketing with purpose. The documentary grossed $11.5 million theatrically in 2004 and ignited an international conversation about the fast food industry.
By appearing in his film as subject and narrator, Spurlock popularized a kind of personality-driven commentary that is now regularly found in another format — video blogging, or “vlogging.” And that’s why he’s a good fit to produce “Vlogumentary,” the first feature film to explore one of the more ubiquitous ways that personalities develop on the site.

While Shay Carl Butler is often thought to be the forefather of modern vlogging, it was actually his wife, Colette, who fired up a vlogging camera for the first time -- capturing her husband as he danced around their living room in a black-and-blue unitard. This clip -- and Butler’s snazzy attire -- subsequently inspired the name of their 4 million-subscribers-strong channel, the Shaytards.
This is just one of many insights to be found in Vlogumentary, a feature documentary about the rise of YouTube’s vlogging community, which was announced back in 2013 and premiered last night at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Butler began working on the film with fellow creator Corey Vidal, and the two subsequently raised more than $200,000 from 5,400 Indiegogo donors. In 2015, they brought famed documentarian Morgan Spurlock on board, who agreed to produce the film.

Some well-known SourceFed team members have branched out from the news network to create their own channel. Bree Essrig, Matt Lieberman, and Steve Zaragoza launched the sketch comedy YouTube channel Nuclear Family on January 6, 2015.
Created in conjunction with Discovery Digital Networks, Nuclear Family will host parodies, humor segments, and musical comedy about recent pop culture, political, and cultural news. Segments will also include special guests like Allison Raskin and Gaby Dunn of the Just Between Us web series. All Nuclear Family content will live exclusively on YouTube for three days before moving to other platforms. The first sketch on Nuclear Family, a spoof video dubbed “People Try Heroin for the First Time,” features Essrig, Lieberman, Jeremy Azevedo, and Jessica Amal as two couples trying out the schedule 1 drug (but not for real).
"I feel like Nuclear Family will be something you’ve never really seen before on YouTube,” said Zaragoza in a release.

Earlier this week, YouTube content creator Gaby Dunn wrote an article for Fusion that spread rapidly across the online video community. In her piece, Dunn lamented her financial situation: Despite gathering more than 500,000 subscribers on her channel, Just Between Us, she found herself regularly struggling to make rent. She relayed stories from several other YouTubers, who also painting ironic pictures of online stardom mixed with real-life struggles.
A lot of Dunn's fellow YouTubers were sympathetic to her plight, but at the same time, some members of the community have raised legitimate counterarguments. One of the people in the latter camp is Jared Polin, a photographer who releases videos on a channel called Fro Knows Photo. Polin, like Dunn, can be classified as a "mid-sized" YouTuber. His channel, which is filled with photography tutorials and adventurous shoots, has about 465,000 subscribers and 66 million views.

Two years ago, we published an article equating the then-current state of the online video industry to the Gold Rush. Two years later, there’s still plenty of money to be found on websites like YouTube, but many successful YouTube are struggling to see a livable portion it. In an article she wrote for Fusion, Gaby Dunn--who co-hosts the web series Just Between Us with her friend Allison Raskin--lays out the financial hardships she has experienced since starting her YouTube channel about two years ago.
On the surface, Dunn seems like she should be able to profit from her YouTube business. Just Between Us has more than 500,000 subscribers, its new videos often achieve several hundred thousand views, and its informal, vlog style seems like it would be inexpensive to produce. And yet, despite these factors, Dunn is struggling. “It’s not enough to live, and its influx is unpredictable,...
