For its 21st edition, the Unforgettable Gala, which annually fetes Asian Americans in entertainment, arts and culture, will officially be opening its awards categories to talent from Asia and the Pacific Islands. Although the event has in the past honored Asian stars with crossover impact such as Minha Kim (Pachinko), Shohei Ohtani and Psy, the announcement indicates that Unforgettable will take on a more global focus, as it partners with AsiaLab, a Seoul-based entertainment and content platform that seeks to facilitate “One Asia” through collaborations with Api stars and influencers.
For now, Character Media, the publishing company that founded and produces Unforgettable each year, is planning to hold the gala at its usual Beverly Hilton location on Dec. 16 but notes that the date could be pushed to the first quarter of 2024, depending on the status of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The best zombie stories center relatable every-people to root for in the ongoing apocalypse. Zombieverse, a new Korean unscripted TV series featuring people trying to survive a fictional zombie outbreak in Seoul, has an eclectic, mostly relatable cast of characters going for it (in addition to the truly remarkable stunt team).
Heading into this show, a Korean audience would be familiar with most if not all of these celebrity cast members, tipping the average viewer off to the fact that this is a reality show almost immediately. However, if you’re not part of the Korean audience—and you don’t regularly watch Korean variety shows—then you are probably, at least initially, at a loss.

Dawn has broken all the K-pop rules. Well, almost all of them. “I want to try getting my nipples pierced,” he tells Rolling Stone over a video call, his smile embellished with a diamond-studded lip ring, “but I’m scared because I recently got a tattoo near my nipple and I went through hell.” Tattoos and piercings are the least of the rapper’s transgressions. For the past five years, in an industry where dating is often contractually forbidden, Dawn has been known as one half of South Korean entertainment...

Blackpink has topped the albums section of Britain’s Official Chart with its latest work, ‘Born Pink’. It has thus become the first K-pop girl group to claim the belt on the most celebrated music chart in Britain, its agency said, reports Yonhap.
The girl group’s second full-length album, which was released on September 16, beat albums by Suede, Rina Sawayama and other global pop stars on the Official Albums Chart on Friday (BST), Yg Entertainment said.
The album’s lead song, ‘Shut Down’, and the track ‘Pink Venom’ placed 24th and 38th, respectively, on the Official Singles Chart.
Before Blackpink, boy band BTS was the only K-pop artiste to top the Official Albums Chart. In 2020, Blackpink’s first full-length album, ‘The Album’, was placed at No. 2 on the same chart.

For years, Strictly Come Dancing has been providing TV audiences with Saturday night entertainment and some truly unforgettable performances.
First airing in 2004 with Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly as hosts, Strictly seemed like a celebrity reality TV show like any other.
But, the show soon became a huge national and international hit, with everyone from politicians to YouTubers taking on the challenge of learning to ballroom dance.
Along the way, there have been some performances you just can’t forget regardless of whether they’re worthy of a perfect 40 or burnt onto your brain for all the wrong reasons.
From the very best to the very, very worst, here are 12 of Strictly’s most memorable moments.
Ed Balls does “Gangnam Style”
When Ed Balls of “tweeting his own name” fame was announced as a contestant, it was assumed that he would be a joke act eliminated in one of the first weeks.

It's time to pantomime a ride on a galloping horse, because 'Gangnam Style' just turned ten.
Psy's groundbreaking music video, which played a significant role in the global expansion of K-pop, arrived on YouTube on July 15, 2012. In November of that year, 'Gangnam Style' became the all-time most-watched video on YouTube. A few weeks after that, it became the first video to crack the billion-view threshold.
Ten years later, 'Gangnam Style' is no longer the most-viewed music video on YouTube. That crown was passed to Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee in 2017. Many artists other than Psy have now seen their music videos surpass ten-digit viewership, and to celebrate the tenth birthday of 'Gangnam Style,' YouTube shared some data about what it called the "Billion Views Club."

Psy's hotly anticipated new song "That That," which features and is produced and cowritten by BTS's Suga, is finally here - and we are here for the fun, upbeat vibes it delivers. Psy's star-studded ninth album boasts exciting collabs with Heize, Mamamoo's Hwa-Sa, and Jessi, among others. Bae Suzy even made an appearance in his "Celeb" music video. Now, the title track, "That That," has arrived, accompanied by a music video filled with the spellbinding and quirky group choreography and humorous shenanigans the "Gangnam Style" singer is known for - only this time, Suga is along for the ride.
In a promo clip about "That That," Suga and Psy reflected on their journey developing the song. "To be honest, I haven't gotten that close with anyone I collab with," Suga said. "It's because I'm usually not the type to meet up with collaborators in person. But he wanted to see me in person.

Arguably one of the most popular groups in the world right now, BTS made their debut as a group in 2010 before releasing their first album in 2013. Since then they've become ambassadors for Louis Vuitton, sold out arena tours in minutes, and had multiple platinum albums, and more recently, they made history as the first K-pop group to be nominated for a Grammy for best duo/group performance for "Dynamite." That being said, they weren't nominated in any major categories, despite dominating the charts, and their nomination was for their first-ever English-language single. The group's milestone demonstrates that the US music industry has no idea what to do when it comes to the "genre" and, well, K-pop groups and artists deserve better.

As a TV series, Psych is like one of those frozen yogurt chains where the wall is ringed with different flavors and you can keep pulling levers for whatever combination you want. There are the Shawn/Gus episodes, the “Shawn’s psychic lie is threatened” episodes, the increasingly genius and lovingly rendered (often ‘80s-tastic) tributes, and the ensemble classics where the whole cast is just a well-oiled machine after years of riffing off one another. You can have whatever flavor you want. And don’t even get me started on toppings.
Over its eight-year run, Psych interrogated its own premise, built out its supporting cast, let its characters play their favorite movie characters, and adapted its own internal mythology into trilogies that would make any movie-buff weep with appreciation. Here is a baker’s dozen of the most giggle-worthy, self-referential, surprisingly dramatic episodes of Psych.

Tracee Ellis Ross had to leave the set of “Black-ish” for a project so secret she wasn’t sure she could even tell her co-star on the show, Anthony Anderson. On Sunday, it won’t be a secret anymore.
Ross is one of several handfuls of celebrities scheduled to appear in the big-budget commercials that will run during Fox’s broadcast of Super Bowl Liv. The job offers a distinct thrill, but brings with it some very unique wrinkles.
Super Bowl ads “stand out through time, and they become little pieces of art,” says Ross in an interview. For a brief, feverish time in the early 2010s, America was obsessed with the Seattle rapper Macklemore. It started with a catchy song, 2012’s “Thrift Shop,” a commercial juggernaut about buying ostentatious clothes for very small amounts of money. The track has aged strangely: You won’t see it on many Best Songs of the 2010s that roll out over the next six weeks or so, despite its then-endless radio play. “Can’t Hold Us,” a blandly inspirational song perfect for soundtracking Microsoft commercials, fared better. It’s not a good song,...

Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road” holds onto the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the third week in a row. He held that position all by himself in its first week, but after controversy over Billboard removing the song from the country chart he re-recorded the song with Billy Ray Cyrus, who has joined him at No. 1 for weeks two and three. It’s actually the first chart-topper of Cyrus’s career, but while “Old Town Road” is controversial as a country song, Bts makes history on the chart for another country altogether.
“Old Town Road” holds the lead position thanks in large part to its record-breaking streaming performance. Last week the song set a new record for the most streams in a single week (143 million). It’s down a little this week, but still has the second most streams of all time (125.2 million). The...

In today’s Instagram-focused age, festival-poster placement matters. When Blackpink was listed boldly on the second row of the Coachella Day 1 lineup, alongside Janelle Monáe, Diplo and the 1975, it drove home just how much of an impact the K-pop girl group has made despite the California fest marking their first-ever U.S. performance.
The group had a huge 2018. With a Top 40 Ep (Square Up broke a four-year-old record for highest-charting Korean release by a female act on the Billboard 200), a hit collaboration with Dua Lipa (“Kiss and Make Up...

Songstress Ariana Grande has established a new YouTube record for most-watched video in a 24-hour period following a debut.
Grande’s hit, Thank U, Next, topped previous record holders and K-pop superstars Bts’s Idol. Released at 12 noon Pacific time on Friday, Thank U, Next has now passed 46 million viewers, edging Bts’s 45.9 million total in just under 22 hours. The Bts record was set in August, eclipsing Taylor Swift’s Look What You Made Me Do.
The Grande video, which combines lyrics on her tumultuous romantic life with visuals reminiscent of early 2000 female-driven films, had 829,000 viewers watching simultaneously at its peak, generating 516,000 chat messages during its debut stages, the latter also a record. The flood of comments was so overwhelming that YouTube experienced a delay in posting them.

On a humid summer afternoon in New Jersey, several thousand people are screaming their hearts out in a language they don’t speak. American devotees of Korean pop music have taken over Newark’s Prudential Center for the weekend; in the parking lot, the crowd sings along to a series of Korean-pop hooks by groups like Exo, Red Velvet and Bts, whose arena-rock stomper “Fake Love” gets the loudest shouts. Close by, a teenage dance group teaches signature moves from K-pop music videos; other stages in the complex host songwriter meet-and-greets,...

Fox 2000 Pictures has acquired film rights to an untitled feature film set in the world of korean pop, or k-pop, with Scooter Braun’s Sb Projects and Epic Magazine attached.
Elyse Hollander is attached to write the screenplay about an Asian American college student from the U.S. who becomes a top competitor on South Korea’s toughest k-pop competition show. Hollander’s screenplay for the Madonna biopic “Blonde Ambition” topped 2016’s Black List.
The k-pop project was announced Tuesday on the heels of an impressive opening weekend for Warner Bros.’ “Crazy Rich Asians,” which underlined the appeal of Asian American stories.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere took to Twitter Friday afternoon to make fun of Verizon’s decision to close its Go90 video service.
Titled “Things that lasted longer than #Go90 starter pack,” Legere posted an image depicting, among other things, Korean pop star Psy’s “Gangnam Style” dance, a Microsoft Zune music player, a man bun, Beanie Babies and a selfie stick.

Verizon announced the closure of Go90 Thursday. The telco had launched the video service in late 2015, and positioned it as an ad-supported mobile-first video service for millennials.
Go90 represented a significant investment for Verizon, as the telco spent hundreds of millions of dollars on exclusive and original content from partners including AwesomenessTV, Complex Networks, Vice Media, New Form and Endemol Shine North America. However, despite these investments, Go90 never really managed to attract a sizeable audience,...

K-pop supergroup Bts is continuing its YouTube reign.
The band’s latest music video for "Fake Love" (below) has cinched the 2018 record for the most-viewed YouTube video on the day of its release. "Fake Love," which debuted last Friday, nabbed 4.8 million views within its first hour on YouTube, and ultimately went on to clock 35.9 million views in one day.
Those numbers make "Fake Love" the third-biggest 24-hour video debut of all time, according to YouTube, following Taylor Swift’s "Look What You Made Me Do" (43.2 million views) and Psy’s "Gentleman" (36 million views). And Bts is the only musical act to have two videos on YouTube’s list of the top 10 biggest 24-hour video debuts. Bts’ "DNA," released last September, amassed 22 million views in a single day, coming in at No. 9 on the list.

Luis Fonsi’s global hit “Despacito” has broken a new digital record.
The official video of the catchy Spanish-language track, featuring Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee, on Wednesday surpassed 5 billion views on YouTube — becoming the first video in the platform’s history to hit that watermark.
Note that it’s not the version of “Despacito” with Justin Bieber; the official video of that remix sits at a mere 7.6 million views. The song, whose title means “slowly” in English, is basically an ode to the pleasures of protracted lovemaking.
“Despacito” claimed the title as most-viewed YouTube video of all-time last August, and was No. 1 on YouTube’s ranking of music videos for 2017. The music video, released by Universal Music Latino, was directed by Carlos Perez and shot in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in December 2016.

Ay, sexy ladies (and fellas, we don’t discriminate here): “Gangnam Style” was very much a part of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. Psy’s huge crossover hit was appropriately played during the American athletes’ Parade of Nations entrance. The international pop smash’s corresponding dance was simultaneously performed by the ring of dancers on the South Korean stadium centerstage, who looked like they enjoyed the welcome break from their regular routine. For the most part, U.S. Twitter seemed to dig the moment. Check out some reactions from the social media platform below. The 2017 edition of YouTube Rewind recently landed on the world’s top video site, bringing together hundreds of creators for a look back at the year’s top videos, trends, and stories. Led by its star-studded cast, the celebratory clip has received more than 150 million views and has inspired numerous parodies.
Recent iterations of YouTube’s annual end-of-year tradition have been so stuffed with star power that most creators get only a few frames of screen time, but that wasn’t always the case. The first time YouTube invited multiple creators to join its Rewind production was in 2012, when more than two dozen participated in a recap of the year’s most notable moments.

It's hard to believe that YouTube is just 10 years old. It seems like it's been around forever, and it's difficult to recall how we ever lived without it.
Nonetheless, it was only 10 years ago this week, on April 23, 2005, that YouTube posted its first user-uploaded video. (It was a 19-second clip called "Me at the Zoo," uploaded by site co-creator Jawed Karim, showing him commenting on his own visit to the elephant exhibit at the San Diego Zoo. It's been viewed 19 million times.)
Today, YouTube seems a ubiquitous part of our lives. But whether you post your own videos or simply watch those made by others, you're adding to the growth of a platform that has forever altered the formerly passive way we used to watch television. Here are 10 ways YouTube has changed what we watch and how we watch it.

Jimmy Kimmel unleashed another round of his "Mean Tweets" segment featuring movie stars and pop acts reciting insulting tweets written about them. Occasionally this sketch still has fresh moments and surprising reactions. More often it gives us celebrities pretending to make fun of themselves as they read benign or asinine tweets that no one would ever care about. In the past, many of these tweets have turned out to be fake, which renders the whole routine pretty pointless. But does the newest batch of mean tweets pass the smell test? For the most part, yes. It appears the show's producers have heeded the call for authenticity since most of these tweets are legit. Here are almost 100% of the tweets featured in last night's segment. Our favorite late night segment is back and better than ever! Jimmy Kimmel rolled out his latest edition of "Celebrities Read Mean Tweets," but this time, he delivered a "music" edition just in time for the upcoming Grammy Awards.Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran were among the big names who sat down in front of the camera to read out some of the mean things that had been written about them on Twitter.Lady Gaga noted that her fragrance "smell[ed] like di*k," while Wiz Khalifa read that he looks like a "homeless woman."Meanwhile, Iggy Azalea found it pretty funny that someone wanted to flick her "stupid mole" off her face, and into the bin, and one tweeter was not keen on Psy advocating for the insertion of sticks in places that may make dancing uncomfortable.Check out the clip above to hear all of the best insults!
