As a famous woman onscreen and off-, it’s not entirely surprising that there are moments when Molly Shannon’s life mirrors that of her The Other Two character, Pat Dubek — until she shares that those common experiences include enjoying anonymity courtesy of a disguise.
In episode four of the Max comedy, which debuts on the service today, billionaire media mogul Dubek is tired of being surrounded by security or getting swarmed by fans every time she leaves the house. After sneaking out without her bodyguards proved to be an ineffective solution, she came up with another idea: donning prosthetics and a wig that made her look like “Grandma Dubek.”
She first tests the persona while meeting her son Cary (Drew Tarver) for coffee. “See! No one can tell, Cary. It’s perfect,” she exclaims. “All I need to do is get into full prosthetic makeup every morning for four hours,...

The threat of AI replacing human creativity loomed large over the 2023 Webby Awards Monday night.
During the New York ceremony honoring the best of the Internet, host Roy Wood Jr. frequently did battle with what was introduced as an AI voice, which claimed it could replace Wood Jr. as host due to all it had learned about humor. Initially appearing as a graphic on a screen with a computerized voice, the AI later took the form of a small child, Kanye West and Wood Jr. himself, as the bit continued throughout the show.
Every time, though, the AI, which called itself “Asshole,” wasn’t able to get much of a response from the audience with its jokes, allowing Wood Jr. to dismiss it by saying things like “Get out of here, Asshole.”
Before the Webbys AI stole the spotlight, Wood Jr. spoke about the dangers of the technology, which is...

Coco Gauff moved through to the third round with a win over Rebecca Marino in a match where neither player could keep a hold of their serve at the Miami Open.
The young American reached the quarter-final in part one of the sunshine double in Indian Wells last week and remained on course to do the same as she overcame some struggles on her serve to win 6-4, 6-3 in one hour 12 minutes. Fans inside the Hard Rock Arena were treated to back-to-back US vs Canada clashes after Jessica Pegula had earlier taken out Katherine Sebov on the show court.
And Gauff gave the home fans some early hope of two out of two over their northern neighbours when she broke the Marino serve early and consolidated to lead 4-1. But back came the 32-year-old from Toronto as she broke back and levelled at 4-4. Neither player was taking any...

To prepare for Yorgos Lanthimos' 2015 dark comedy "The Lobster," Colin Farrell gained over 40 pounds in just eight weeks. He guzzled cola, fries, cheeseburgers, chocolate cake, and microwaved cartons of ice cream to hit the target. It was "not that fun," Farrell remarked at Cannes that year. But "The Banshees of Inisherin" star is far from the only actor to undergo such a brutal body transformation. The likes of Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, Anne Hathaway, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Natalie Portman have done as much -- and have later voiced how the process took a toll on them.
Wouldn't it be easier for everyone involved to just hire an actor who already has the body shape the character's supposed to have? (Or at least someone within the general range.) Even if that's not an option for whatever reason, surely regular movie magic — make-up, prosthetics, forced perspectives, and so on — is better than...

It's been almost a year since director Matt Reeves gave us "The Batman," and I think it's safe to say we're all eager to explore more of its grimy gothic environs. Well "take it easy, sweetheart" -- sorry, I had to -- because Reeves is working on "The Penguin" spin-off for HBO Max, which thus far doesn't appear to have tasted Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslov's merciless sword and is, according to star Colin Farrell, set to start shooting in February. While multiple projects centered on Batman villains such as Clayface and Scarecrow are said to be in the early stages of development, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Penguin" is currently the furthest along. It's set to arrive before we get the Robert Pattinson-led sequel to "The Batman."

Colin Farrell might have appeared in Matt Reeves' "The Batman" for just a few scenes -- he had less than 10 minutes of screentime -- but the actor underwent a complete transformation to play Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. Each day prior to filming, Farrell spent four hours in the makeup chair; that's how elaborate the prosthetics were.
When we last saw the DC Comics mobster at the end of "The Batman," he was looking over the flooded, chaos-ridden city of Gotham from a window, which seemed to suggest the supervillain would be in the running to take over the throne of the city's dangerous underworld. After all, someone has to fill the void now that his old boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) is gone.
DC fans will get to witness that rise in "The Penguin," HBO Max's spin-off series based on the character that is set to arrive...

It’s about to turn up because “Party Down” is back!
The beloved Starz original comedy series has officially returned 14 years since the show debuted in 2009. Original stars Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Ryan Hansen, and Martin Starr, plus Season 2 addition Megan Mullally, are reprising their respective roles for the revival series. Lizzy Caplan is the only original actor not returning for the reboot. Check out the trailer below.
The cater-waiter comedy centers on aspiring actor Henry (Scott), whose apathetic bartending skills sustain his dreams of being a Hollywood star. Henry works for Party Down catering company, managed by Ron (Marino). Each episode centered around a different catering job: from Sweet Sixteens to Bar Mitzvahs, funerals to pre-school fundraisers. The series ran for two seasons before being axed in 2010.
“This is not how I envisioned my 40s,” Henry says in the trailer for the highly anticipated revival.
Per the official Season 3 synopsis,...

Entertainment Weekly has just debuted exclusive photos for the upcoming revival of the comedy show Party Down. The Starz series made its last appearance in 2010, and the ensemble cast has gone on to have prominent careers in the comedy world since. The cast, including Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, Megan Mullally, Martin Starr, and Ryan Hansen, is slated to return in one capacity or another. However, one name notably not making an appearance is Lizzy Caplan due to other commitments. These new photos include a look at the new love interest for the bartender, Henry, who comes in the form of Evie, to be played by Jennifer Garner.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Evie is “a successful movie producer fresh off a breakup. As she’s reconsidering her life choices, this new relationship with Henry becomes a way for her to explore what else is out there.” Also joining the...
