When the cartoonist B. Kliban's first "Cat" book was published in 1975, sales were slow until Workman sent his staff to a Madison Square Garden cat show to sell copies. He had Kliban cat posters printed for bookstore displays. Sales picked up. Workman was an early believer in merchandising, and soon followed with Kliban-cat pillows, mugs, and calendars.
