J.K. Simmons has joined the cast of Jason Reitman’s SNL 1975, and not only will the Oscar winner be playing Hollywood legend Milton Berle, but he’ll have the notable distinction of becoming the first actual SNL host to join the cast of the Sony movie.
Simmons hosted the Jan. 31, 2015 episode of Saturday Night Live, which featured D’Angelo as the musical guest. At the time, Simmons was riding high off an Oscar nomination for Whiplash, and he would go on to win the Academy Award following his SNL hosting stint.
Meanwhile, Berle hosted SNL on April 14, 1979, and Ornette Coleman was his musical guest. It’s unclear where Berle fits into Reitman’s movie at this moment in time.

When people’s dreams start to fall into place, their uncertainly about how to handle their new reality can often inhibit them from reaching their ultimate goal. SXSW picture Teenage Badass is now making its way to theatres across the US and to mark the occasion we spoke to the film’s director Grant McCord, alongside leading star Mcabe Gregg.
We spoke to the long-time friends and collaborators about the genesis of the project, which also stars the likes of Kevin Corrigan. They speak about their cinematic inspirations, the importance of having good music, and they tell us about their own experiences playing music. We also couldn’t let the opportunity pass us by, and we had to ask Gregg about his relationship with Stand By Me, given his father Bradley was such an integral role in the 80s classic. Meanwhile, as ask McCord about his own experiences on the sets of Hunger Games and Logan, and what he learnt and took with him, into this charming little indie production.

Teenage Badass is one of those films that seems tailor made for a very specific audience: thirtysomething men who fell in love with music during the Nineties and never did anything much more edgy than smoking a bit of cannabis and making deliberately unflattering fashion choices, but still like to think of themselves as badasses when they're dancing around in secret in the kitchen. If that sounds like you, you're likely to find this by-the-numbers story of the rise and fall of a small time rock band rather endearing. If not, it may provide you with a few laughs, but not much more.
Brad (Mcabe Gregg) is small time guy with a small time drug habit, living with his ailing mother and helping to define the slacker stereotype of the era. His one real passion is drumming, so when he's invited to join a local band, he leaps at the chance.

"One, two, three...!" Freestyle Digital Media has released a trailer for an indie dramedy film titled Teenage Badass, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Grant McCord. This was supposed to premiere at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year before it was cancelled, and will now launch on VOD in the fall. Set in 2006, Teenage Badass follows a band when they score a shot to play on the local news. But as all of their dreams start to become a reality, the band's egocentric singer / songwriter threatens to make them lose everything they have worked for. The story actually follows the drummer, played by Mcabe Gregg; and the lead singer Kirk Stylo is played by Evan Ultra. Also starring Julie Ann Emery, Kevin Corrigan, James Paxton, Madelyn Deutch, Elsie Hewitt, and Dillon Lane. The tone in this trailer is all over the place, and it seems like just some...
