With Katy Perry as special guest, the True Colors Festival (Tcf) The Concert 2022 delivered over 2.5 hours of high-energy entertainment and emotion for two nights. Many in the audience were brought to tears, as almost 100 artists, many of whom live with a disability, took to the stage with talent, showmanship and the message that we are all ‘One World, One Family’.
While showcasing the extraordinary talents of singers, dancers and musicians of diverse abilities, the concert also gave audiences a peek inside the everyday lives of the some of the artists, through short films interspersed with live performances. The idea was to capture the forces that unite us as humans: mundane life, determination, self-belief, love, community, joy. Included in these vignettes were inspirational messages from the artists, such as Wheelsmith’s message to “Love the one you see in the mirror”; Johnatha Bastos’ “Anything is possible”; Adrian Anantawan’s “Music allowed...

Around the Oasis Tree, disparate worlds converge for one day a year. It’s an intersection of futuristic rave music, speakeasies with drinks that bubble and news of a girl gone missing, and adorable mascot DJs immortalized in stone. In other words, Porter Robinson’s annual Second Sky, which happened Saturday October 29 once again achieved an ambitious, and nearly immersive, feat of music festival engineering. But the heart...

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will host a new holographic performer this year — but it won’t be Tupac, or any other deceased musician. On Thursday night, Japanese holographic performer Hatsune Miku was announced as part of the festival’s 2020 lineup, scheduled to perform April 10th on Weekend 1 and April 17th on Weekend 2.
To Western audiences unfamiliar with Hatsune Miku or her uninterrupted success in Japan — she’s routinely sold out arenas in the country for more than a decade — her origins can sound like something out of a sci-fi novel.

For many people on the internet, Japan is synonymous with anime, bizarre youth trends, wacky adverts and some really eccentric music videos. When we in the West watch something from Japan, on YouTube for example, we are often drawn to the wackiest stuff.
That’s totally understandable – it’s really entertaining. However, this means that a lot of really good stuff passes us by. For example, many of us know about musicians like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (see above image) and the eccentric music video for her viral hit Pon pon pon. Many Western metal fans know about Babymetal, the unholy alliance between metal and Jpop. However, most of us would be hard pressed to name other famous Japanese musicians.
So, compiled here is a list of great Japanese musicians you should know about. The list is completely random and follows no particular music genre. They all just happen...
