Our American Idol “journey” has come to an end, but let us not weep for what’s been cancelled, let us instead go to iTunes and download the Season 15 winner’s new single. Hey, from a songwriting vantage point, it may not be “Home,” but it definitely ranks above “No Boundaries” and “Inside Your Heaven” — and we bought those, too. And if this show can produce one more bona fide radio/touring superstar, maybe the inevitable reboot will happen sooner than expected, no?

Five more contestants are about to be sent packing on American Idol: The Farewell Season, inching us ever closer to the point when audiences will finally have a say. But before Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr., can round out the Top 14, we've got another round of Idol alum duets on tap.
The first set of pairings largely fell flat, save for the Caleb Johnson/Sonika Vaid and Avalon Young/Ruben Studdard combos and, to a lesser extent, the Fantasia/La'Porsha scream-run battle. Still, it's nice to see all the people we've helped become famous return to where it all started. Except for Scotty McCreery, who clearly had no interest in being there.

And now for something completely different. Slightly different? For the first time, "American Idol" is doing a Showcase Round, featuring solo performances from the Top 48. Click through and follow my recap of Wednesday's (February 18) show as we find out the answers together... 8:00 p.m. Et. "One last show will seal their fate," Ryan Seacrest warns us, while also saying that we're getting eliminations tonight and Final Judgement. Yup. I'm already confused. 8:01 p.m. The contestants arrive at House of Blues, where they'll perform for the judges and a live audience. Only 12 Guys and 12 Girls will advance to the live showcase. Then contestants will walk the Not-Really-Green Mile. Presumably not immediately. But that's what it'll look like to us.

Scott Borchetta's no stranger to handpicking hitmakers — Taylor Swift, case in point — so when it came to selecting which singing competition to adorn with his million-dollar touch, it was a pretty easy choice: go with the one that gives birth to stars. The president and CEO of Big Machine Label Group will join American Idol as the contestants' mentor for Season 14, which debuted last week on Fox, and he's pretty certain he's going to help judge triad Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. find the next Carrie Underwood.

"American Idol" is back for Season 14 and it's important to remind you: The last two winners have been Candice Glover and Caleb Johnson. For the past few years, the ability to make stars has been the thing "Idol" has used to set it apart from the higher-rated "Voice." It's not like the coronation of Phillip Phillips, an artist with probably more album sales than every "Voice" winner combined, was that long ago, but in a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately business, "Idol" could use another breakout soon. [Note that ratings were Way down for "The Voice" this past season, as the NBC singing competition appears to have peaked and be heading into the predictable slide that almost all competition shows eventually go into. While pundits love to talk trash about the decline in "Idol" ratings, folks were oddly silent about "The Voice" in the fall. Shrug.] Expect more declines for "Idol" this season, but a breakout, incandescent star might help. So let's get down to the business of recapping Wednesday (January 7) night's premiere! With Fox sending out screeners, the live-blog times line up with episode time-code and not with any time from a real clock. Oh and Thursday's (January 8) two-hour...

Confirming what we pretty much already knew, Fox announced on Monday afternoon that Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. will return as "American Idol" judges for next spring's 14th installment. The network also cleared up the general lack of suspense surrounding Ryan Seacrest and his return. Short version? Yes. Ryan Seacrest will maintain his place as "American Idol" Designated Continuity. Without Kevin Reilly or anybody currently filling Kevin Reilly's position, Fox had to mix things up with its network statements. "Jennifer, Keith, Harry and Ryan are the very best in the business at what they do, and I’m thrilled that they are returning to 'American Idol' for another season. Each brings unique qualities and expertise to the team, but they all share the same passion for helping undiscovered singers achieve the American dream," blurbs David Hill, Senior Executive Vice President, 21st Century Fox. Harry Connick Jr. quickly got the nickname “Harsh Harry” after joining the judging panel for the 13th season of American Idol for his brutally honest critiques and comments. North Carolina native Caleb Johnson, 23, became the first classic rocker to win American Idol on Wednesday night after a season battling bronchitis and high expectations from the judges and fans on his third time auditioning for the show. “This is absolutely crazy!” Johnson said during his first press conference as the winner immediately after the show. EW sat down with Caleb for a one-on-one interview Thursday after probably getting very little sleep to see if his surprise win has sunk in a little more, what’s next now that the show is all over, and testing his Idol knowledge.

Jena Asciutto has had quite the senior year.
Although the 17-year-old Farmington Hills, Mich., student didn't take home the title of American Idol Wednesday night, she doesn't begrudge the victory to Caleb Johnson, someone she now considers one of her best friends. "I am so happy for Caleb," she told reporters Thursday. "He deserves it all. The production team said that they haven't seen a connection like the one between me and Caleb. It helped with the stress being taken down a couple notches [during competition]."

Fans of “American Idol” season 13 winner Caleb Johnson won’t have long to wait for the newly crowned king’s debut album. Johnson’s self-titled album will come out Aug. 12. Anyone remember a winner’s set coming out that quickly before? Not only that, the release date was announced mere hours after Johnson was throned last night. Given that “Idol” no longer has the shiny new car smell it once had, 19 Recordings/Interscope Records, which is putting out the release, must want to strike while Johnson’s victory is still fresh in people’s minds. No word on when Interscope will release runner-up Jena Irene’s album. Judge Harry Connick asked Johnson last week what kind of album he’d like to make and he replied, unsurprisingly, a rock album of originals. He’s off to a good start with his “Idol” finale song, “As Long As You Love Me,...

Keith Urban had a front-row seat on American Idol all season at the judges' table, but his favorite place to watch the show was at home with his wife, Nicole Kidman. "We always watch it together," Urban told reporters Wednesday before Caleb Johnson was crowned the winner of season 13. "It's a delayed telecast out here [in Los Angeles], so we go home and watch it together. We get in our jammies and watch it. It's a good look." And it looks like Urban and Kidman - who married in 2006 and have two daughters, Sunday, 5, and Faith, 3 - will be avidly watching the next season.
