The story everyone knows about the rise of the Mp3 and the end of the CD gold rush is a good one. It’s got Metallica and Dr. Dre, Sean Parker and the RIAA, Napster, Kazaa, Limewire, and the record industry’s flabbergasting decision to sue its own fans. But the real story, or arguably the most nuanced and fascinating one, lies elsewhere with a bunch of young computer wizzes scattered across the country and a handful of crafty, underpaid factory workers in Shelby, North Carolina.

After the raids on Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ homes in Miami and Los Angeles last week, his longtime nemesis, rapper 50 Cent, said he would produce a documentary about his nemesis.
The rivalry is connected to Combs dating 50 Cent’s ex, Daphne Joy. Joy is the mother of 50 Cent’s 11-year-old son, Sire Jackson.
A new $30 million sexual assault lawsuit against Combs brought by record producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones claimed that Joy was Combs “sex worker,” adding a further wrinkle to the drama.
The 73-page lawsuit is only one of three recently filed against Combs.
The suit also stated that Jones was subject to a year of groping without his consent and “constant unsolicited touching” of his private areas.
Combs and Jackson have a long-lasting rivalry that dates back over 20 years.

50 Cent made as big of a splash in the television industry as he did with music thanks to his Power franchise. But the television series he had planned after Power might surprise some fans.
50 Cent had his sights set on making his own superhero show 50 Cent | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
50 Cent spent years planning to enter the space of television before finally making his move with Power. The hip-hop mogul teamed with producer Courtney Kemp to bring the series to life, which drew inspiration from his own background. His networking with a well-known Hollywood producer also helped put the wheels in motion for the show.
Power grew to be the Starz network’s flagship show, spawning an entire cinematic universe in its own right. But after the success of Power, 50 Cent considered taking over the world of superheroes as well. According to Entertainment Weekly, he’d even given his new show a title.

Rappers 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather have had a long-running rivalry, trading insults and taunts on social media over the years. They’ve also periodically made amends, only to start feuding again soon after. Their latest falling out stems from comments Mayweather made defending music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who currently faces multiple s*xual assault lawsuits. On a recent podcast, Mayweather refused to criticize Diddy, stating “mistakes happen.”
Upon hearing this, 50 Cent took to Instagram to slam Mayweather’s defense of the allegations against Diddy. He mocked Mayweather as sounding “stupid” for dismissing serious assault accusations. This prompted 50 Cent to reignite tensions with Mayweather, capitalizing on interest around the Diddy lawsuits.

Ryan Kavanaugh has a new podcast about failure. By his own admission, he’s got “plenty of failure stories to tell.” The once high-flying thirtysomething mogul quickly turned into a Hollywood pariah when his Relativity Media sputtered into bankruptcy in 2015. Though he co-financed more than 200 films including “The Social Network,” “Mama Mia!” and “The Fighter,” he is best remembered for his foibles. Now 49, he’s quietly staging a comeback, producing influencer-led films like the upcoming Bryce Hall-50 Cent satire “Skill House.” And he boasts a majority stake in the video platform Triller, a TikTok rival that was poised to go public in 2021, never did, but may still.
With the podcast “Failure,” which bows today from Manifest Media, Kavanaugh sits down with a range of guests — from Hollywood rabbis to influencers with mega-followings to, yup, Nigel Lythgoe — to explore the dynamic of why public failures can lead to redemptive triumphs over 24 episodes.

Still wondering what’s in and what’s out for 2024? Ask 50 Cent, who recently vowed to practice abstinence this year in order to focus on his goals.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday (January 9th) that sees the G-Unit mogul stylishly sporting a glass of cognac and smoking a cigar, 50 wrote: “My new idea is so big, I don’t have time to be distracted I’m practicing abstinence, I have been meditating and focusing on my goals. I hope this New Year helps you excel to the next level.” See the post below.
Although yet to share what exactly his new idea may be, the rapper – who is fresh off of a surprise performance with Ed Sheeran on his “Final Lap Tour” – has a number of film and TV projects in the works slated for release in the months ahead.

50 Cent will executive produce an upcoming documentary about the sexual assault allegations swirling around Sean “Diddy” Combs. What’s more, proceeds from the documentary “will go to victims of sexual assault and rape,” according to the rapper.
Confirmed by G-Unit Films and Television, the production company founded by 50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson), the new documentary will detail Combs’ record of alleged predatoary behavior, and will present new accusations regarding his alleged pattern of harassment and assault against women.
The documentary arrives as Combs finds himself at the center of a number of new sexual assault allegations. Last month, he was sued by his former girlfriend and label signee, the singer Cassie, for rape and years of repeated physical abuse, which ended in a settlement one day later. Since that, though, a number of additional suits have been filed, accusing Combs of heinous acts, such as distributing “revenge porn” and...

You won’t find Evanescence singer Amy Lee chilling in da club with 50 Cent anytime soon. As the goth-rock vocalist explained in a new interview, the rapper “hates [her] guts.”
Fifty’s beef with Lee stems from the time he lost the Grammy for Best New Artist to Evanescence in 2004. Despite not being announced as the winner, 50 Cent still walked across the stage, making for an awkward moment during Evanescence’s acceptance speech.
When asked by Daily Beast about the incident, Lee responded, “50 Cent hates my guts,” adding, “It’s just one of those things… I mean, truthfully, we thought he was going to win, too. It was such a wild night. People are like, ‘What was it like to win a Grammy?’ and I’m like, ‘Stressful!’ I mean, it’s wonderful now, to have them, but it was surreal… I just remember thinking, ‘I don’t even think...

The 2023 Billboard Music Awards didn’t air on TV this year and the event was streamed online through videos uploaded to the Billboard website.
Pre-taped performances and acceptance speeches, which were filmed all around the world while artists are on tour, made up the awards show this year.
Morgan Wallen was the big winner of the night with 11 wins while Taylor Swift followed closely behind with 10 wins, including the Top Artist prize.
Taylor and Drake are now tied for the most wins ever at the Billboard Music Awards.
“Well this is unreal,” Taylor told fans in her speech. “The fact that you guys have given me 10 Billboard Awards — I’m talking to the fans specifically. None of this happens without you. The Billboards base everything off of what you are listening to and what you’re passionate about, and I’m so honored that this year you made The Eras Tour so magical.

They'll die when they're dead ... or when the franchise is, anyway. That time might not be too far away, as "The Expendables 4" (aka "Expend4bles") is on track for the worst opening weekend of the franchise so far. The sequel grossed just $750,000 in Thursday previews, which is less than "The Expendables 3" managed all the way back in 2014 -- and that movie was a box office disappointment by the end of its run.
As reported by Variety, things didn't get much better from there, with "Expendables 4" managing an opening day total of just $3.2 million including those Thursday ticket sales. Per Deadline, the movie is now in a close race with "The Nun II" for the weekend No. 1 spot, with both movies looking at an estimated $8 million total for the weekend. That's a good result for "The Nun II," showing stronger legs than the first movie despite a smaller start.

Plot: The Expendables go after a team of mercenaries connected to a legendary arms dealer whose identity is unknown.
Review: Millennium Media has taken nine years to develop a fourth entry into the Expendables series. Things have changed in the near-decade since the last movie, which is reflected in the fact that this series instalment is much smaller scale than the ones that came before it. It’s primarily a spin-off entry for Jason Statham’s Lee Christmas, with the titular Expendables only supporting our hero on a personal mission, with Sylvester Stallone’s Barney Ross contributing little more than a cameo.
While that’s undeniably disappointing, Expend4bles is still a fun enough action flick if you keep your expectations in check. The budget seems much smaller than it was for the previous films, with abysmal CGI. Most of the action is confined to a cargo ship, as the Expendables...

'The Expendables 4' producers are pleased with the new blood in the franchise.Megan Fox and 50 Cent have joined action legends Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham in the latest movie in the action series and producer Kevin King Templeton felt it was necessary to add some new faces in the flick.Kevin told Screen Rant: "Each movie has different characters in there. In order to evolve, you can't reinvent the wheel, but you have to freshen it up."You have to put new characters in there, but these characters have to fit, and they have to be right. It was kind of an extensive casting process, but I'm hoping we got the right balance."The producer continued: "It was more a Christmas-centric movie, (and) we needed a foil for Jason, so Megan was cast in it. We thought the chemistry was perfect between the two of them,...

It was an accident that the dead microphone 50 Cent threw off stage in Los Angeles last night hit a radio host in the head, according to the former Power star’s attorney.
“Let’s be very clear, as I told LAPD this afternoon, my client Curtis would never intentionally strike anyone with a microphone,” Scott Leemon tells Deadline of the blow to Power 106 host Bryhana Monegain at Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s Crypto.com Arena show on August 30. “Anyone saying something different doesn’t have all the facts and is misinformed.”
A battery report was filed with the police after the incident, Deadline has confirmed. At this stage, the LAPD is gathering information about the incident, a law enforcement source says. From video of the show last night and otherwise, there seem to be no doubt that 50 did throw the mic and that Monegain was hit — the how and why are under the microscope,...

It looks like Paramount Global is ready to walk away from the negotiating table. According to the Wall Street Journal, Paramount has abandoned its plans to sell a majority stake in BET Media Group, which incorporates the cable channels BET and VH1 as well as the streaming platform BET+.

Discussions about a sale of BET Media Group first arose in March, and numerous bidders have had reported interest, including Allen Media Group mogul Byron Allen, pop culture figures like Shaquille O'Neal and 50 Cent, and current BET+ minority owner Tyler Perry.
But the deadline for final bids has come and gone, and apparently Paramount hasn’t seen the numbers it was hoping for from these potential buyers. Now it will have to decide how best to deploy the assets it has in BET Media Group; the original thought behind the sale was to help...

Cole performed “No Role Modelz” at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Wednesday alongside 50 Cent as fans cheered loudly. He was the last surprise performer and spoke highly of 50 Cent and his first album after the performance.

Ed Sheeran added Eminem to the equation for the Detroit stop on his ongoing “Mathematics Tour,” with the pair performing “Lose Yourself” and “Stan” in front of the rapper’s hometown crowd.
“I wondered if I could play you a cover of an Eminem song tonight,” Sheeran began. “I think you know it. We rehearsed it today; we’ll see how it goes.” After strumming the “Lose Yourself” intro and admirably rattling off the first few lines, Slim Shady took the stage to finish off the opening verse. Though the rapper sounded just as ferocious as he did on the original 8 Mile cut, the singer-guitarist brought his own twist with some nice harmonies during the chorus.
Cutting the song short, Sheeran raised the hype by telling the audience, “Can I just say, he was gonna come out and do one song, but I said you can’t come out...

Rapper 50 Cent is gonna get rich or die tryin’…by adapting the movie 8 Mile for television.
50 Cent revealed his plans during an interview on Big Boy TV, confirming, “I’m gonna bring his 8 Mile to television. We’re in motion.” 50 Cent didn’t elaborate on any plot details, but reports suggest that his 8 Mile spin will be a prequel, allowing for a look at the early days of Jimmy, aka Rabbit, when he was just a kitten.
50 Cent cemented his idea by saying, “I think it should be there for [Eminem’s] legacy because it’s important to me that they understand it.”
50 Cent also boasted his own filmography, saying, “It’s gonna be big. I ain’t got no duds. I’m battin’ a hundred, I’m battin’ a hundred.” While that seems to be a bit of a stretch–he is most certainly not batting a hundred (.500 maybe…...

In a moment of crisis, the leaders of talent agency APA were not about to let opportunity pass them by.
The dramatic changes that have swept across the content business and Hollywood’s creative community have made for a topsy-turvy ride for the town’s major tenpercenteries: The packaging battle between talent agencies and the Writers Guild of America in 2019 followed by pandemic disruption left sizable agencies — APA among them — in a precarious state.
But after a swirl of dealmaking, blocking, tackling and talent-wooing, APA leaders Jim Gosnell and Jim Osborne (aka “the Jims”) are heading into 2023 with more confidence than ever about cementing the agency’s position as the leading full-service, midsize alternative to the Big Three: WME, CAA and UTA.
“During the pandemic, everybody got punched in the stomach pretty hard because everything just came to a screeching halt,” says Gosnell, who is APA’s CEO, while Osborne is president.
