Created by Alan Ball and inspired by The Southern Vampire Mysteries, a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, the TV series True Blood ran on HBO for seven seasons, from 2008 to 2014, ending up with a total of 80 episodes. 42 of those episodes featured Joe Manganiello as the werewolf character Alcide Herveaux. Introduced in season 3, Alcide was only supposed to be a guest star for that particular season – but he proved to be so popular with viewers, he was kept around… until season 7, when he was killed off. Not surprisingly, Manganiello wasn’t happy with the way his character went out. In fact, he was so displeased with Alcide being killed off, he feels he still has unfinished werewolf business to this day.
During an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Manganiello said (with thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the transcription), “I thought there was so much left on the table for me.

Joe Manganiello wasn’t happy with the 2014 conclusion of True Blood. The actor, who played fan-favorite werewolf Alcide Herveaux in later seasons of the HBO show, said this week that he feels “like there was a lot that was left unexplored” in the series ending.
“I thought there was so much left on the table for me,” Manganiello said on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show. “The thing about it was they never planned for me to be on the show past one season. I was signed up as a guest star my first season, and when my character really broke and people really loved the character, they were kind of unprepared for that to happen.”
Early in True Blood‘s seventh and final season, Manganiello’s character — originally introduced in season three — died unexpectedly after being shot. Later that year, the series’ end was met with mixed reviews from fans,...

True Blood is one of the most popular TV shows of the noughties.
The horror-themed TV series, which was based on the Southern Vampire Mysteries series by Charlaine Harris, debuted on HBO in September 2008 and ran through August 2014 across seven seasons and 80 episodes.
The series follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress living in Louisiana, and the emergence of vampires thanks to a synthetic blood product called “Tru Blood,” which allows them to come out of their coffins and integrate into society. The series follows the vampires’ fight for equality amid anti-vampire sentiments, as Sookie falls in love with vampire Bill Compton.
The show won both a Golden Globe and an Emmy, and its stars have since gone on to accomplish major things in their careers, earning a significant amount of money.

Regardless of genre, fans place an enormous amount of expectation on series finales. It's not easy to carry the responsibility of wrapping up any extraneous plot threads and character arcs in a satisfying way for longtime audiences. Even the most acclaimed shows, like "Seinfeld" and "The Sopranos," can have their entire successful run overshadowed by middling or divisive reception to their respective finales. This distinction carries over to horror TV shows, with plenty of notable series marring their celebrated legacies because of the last impressions left by divisive final episodes.
Horror shows often suffer from abrupt cancellations, denying audiences a satisfying amount of closure thanks to anticlimactic endings that don't live up to fan expectations. Even some of the most enduring and iconic horror shows have come to a close with lackluster finales. Here are the most maligned endings that ruined the legacies of TV horror classics by failing to stick the landing.

As you may recall, it was announced back in 2020 that HBO was developing a series reboot of their hit vampire series “True Blood,” with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa leading the charge. Based on the novels by Charlaine Harris and created by Alan Ball, HBO’s vampire/werewolf/were-panther/you-name-it series aired between 2008 and 2014, officially coming to an end after seven seasons and 80 episodes.
But what’s the latest on HBO’s “True Blood” reboot? Well, according to a new article from Variety this week, those plans from back in 2020 are dead-in-the-water here in 2023.
HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys tells Variety that while a few scripts had been written for a potential “True Blood” reboot, nothing ended up coming together. It seems the project was only ever in the early stages, and HBO wasn’t confident enough to proceed. That doesn’t mean “True Blood” will Never be back, but...

True Blood is not returning on HBO.
Despite a new series set in the Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer series universe, the premium cabler has put a stake in those plans.
Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO and HBO Max, revealed as much in a new interview with Variety.
Bloys said that despite a few scripts, "nothing felt like it got there," and the series is no longer in the works.
Returning to the universe would be a tough sell because the 2014 series finale didn't exactly go out on the best of terms.
It was a near-unanimously terrible final episode that disregarded the components of the series that made it successful for seven seasons.
Based on Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Mysteries novels, the original series focused on telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who encounters a strange new supernatural world when she meets the mysterious Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a southern Louisiana gentleman and vampire.

Thandiwe Newton in All The Old Knives. Courtesy of Amazon.
All The Old Knives is an intense political thriller with a relatively unusual framework. Eight years before the principal action, terrorists hijacked a commercial plane in Europe and wound up killing themselves and over 100 others. We learn that from the get-go. The mystery comes from newly-discovered evidence that there may have been a mole in the CIA who contributed to that disastrous failure. The head honcho Victor Wallinger (Laurence Fishburne) assigns his top agent Henry Pelham (Chris Pine) to head up this new inquiry. Primary suspects among his old colleagues are his then-girlfriend Celia Harrison (Thandiwe Newton) and their veteran department head Bill Compton (Jonathan Pryce).
Pine approaches the task with great reluctance. Newton left him and the spy biz right after the incident, morphing into a suburban mom. Pine still pines for her from afar. The screenplay includes many...

The streaming era, with its glut of viewing options and its omnipresent yet thinly spread advertising, often makes it harder for audiences to get an advance read on a movie. When you see that a couple of actors as good as Chris Pine and Thandiwe Newton have teamed up for a spy thriller that’s being released by Amazon Studios, and that it’s called “All the Old Knives” (a title that sounds like it could be about anything or nothing), you wonder — a little more than you might have 30 years ago — if it’s a project that makes good on their talents or whether it’s another ho-hum slab of product. (Ho-hum product has always been with us; but there’s more of it now.)
So I’m glad to report that It’s not John le Carré, but it’s not thinly patched together pulp either. Watching “All the Old Knives,...

Exclusive: As Bill Compton would say, bloody good: Author Charlaine Harris, whose bestselling book series about vampires inspired the hit series True Blood on HBO, is going into the podcasting biz. She’s teaming with Realm to write a yet-to-be-named, multi-episode series that will launch in 2023.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with Realm on this all-new vampire narrative,” said Harris. “Although I can’t reveal too much right now, I will say that exploring these myths and legends for a podcast audience is incredibly exciting for me and I look forward to joining the Realm family as we take audio storytelling to new heights.”

Here at Den of Geek we believe in a diversity of the geek diaspora. Some of us are soft-bodied boys who, let’s say hypothetically, washed out of their high school baseball tryouts because they couldn’t run too well. Other geeks, however, are pure beefcakes. And that’s great!
One such physically adept geek, Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast Joe Manganiello, will be lending his talents to a little-watched (but really good) Peacock comedy A.P. Bio this fall when the show returns for its fourth season on Sept. 2. Manganiello will play the whimsically named Malachi, who is described as “a big and intimidating personality who unexpectedly steps into Jack’s life, causing Jack great distress and insecurity in his personal relationships.” Check out a trailer for season 4 with Jack and Malachi below.
Now, it’s not unlike disgraced Harvard professor-turned A.P. Biology teaching charlatan Jack Griffin (Glenn Howerton) to develop a nemesis.

It looks like fans will be returning to Bon Temps in the near future, but don't expect Anna Paquin to be a part of the rumored reboot.
The actress, who starred as Sookie Stackhouse on all seven seasons, broke her silence about the project on Twitter, and it's quite surprising.
"Well, this is the first I'm hearing about this," she wrote via Twitter after a flurry of users asked her about her thoughts on the project.
The actress later clarified that she's not mad about HBO's reported reboot.
"Not mad, just answering the question that has inundated my feed," the beloved actress responded.
Paquin is not the only person associated with True Blood to claim they have no clue about the project.
Novel writer Charlaine Harris, who brought the world to life, wrote the following on social media:

With the final season of Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” set to arrive, series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is hard at work on his next project, which has a similar supernatural bent.
Variety reported that Aguirre-Sacasa is in early development on a reboot of HBO’s vampire drama “True Blood.” Aguirre-Sacasa and “NOS4A2” creator Jami O’Brien will work together on the script, as well as serve as executive producers, while Alan Ball, the original creator of “True Blood,” will also executive produce. There’s nothing else currently known about the reboot and it’s unclear if any of the original cast will return.
The series, which ran on HBO from 2008 to 2014, follows Louisiana waitress and telepath Sookie Stackhouse, originally played by Anna Paquin, as she navigates a relationship with vampire Bill Compton (played by Stephen Moyer), as well as a host of other fantasy and supernatural characters. HBO is not done with True Blood yet.
TV Line is reporting that a reboot of the series is in the works, but it will be a complete overhaul of the original concept.
Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre is attached to shepherd the project, while the original series creator, Alan Ball, is reportedly in line to return as an exec producer.
True Blood was a roaring success story for HBO, but it went out with one of the most divisive final seasons in the history of TV.
But this is the age of the reboot, and any semi-popular franchise of the last couple of decades is fair game to be brought back in some capacity.
Ball was with True Blood as showrunner for its first five seasons and had little input in the final two, arguably the worst seasons of the series.

From vampires to werewolves to faeries, Sookie Stackhouse’s dating history reads like a who’s who — or a who’s what — of the supernatural world. And for that, we thank her.
Because even when HBO’s True Blood (2008–2014) was at its most perplexing, at least fans could always count on a ludicrous sex scene to keep them tuning in week after week. And at the risk of digging up ancient history, TVLine is revisiting the drama in Bon Temps, where the only thing steamier than the swampland was the townsfolk’s endless stream of clothing-optional shenanigans.

Parks and Recreation”Greg Pikitis” (Season 2, Episode 7)
There are a lot of great Halloween episodes of “Parks and Recreation” but this one is less about emotions and more about humor and that’s why I love it. In the episode, Leslie spends the entire night trying to take down her nemesis who just happens to be a teenage boy, Greg Pikitis. This horrible young man is known for ritually destroying government property and totally driving Leslie nuts. To where she makes this face:
Not to mention she enlists her boyfriend, the lovable, soft spoken, voice of reason, Dave the cop (played by Louis Ck), to help tail Pikitis all night. Only to return to the Parks office late that night to see it vandalized just as she suspected Pikitis would do. How did he do it when they have tailed him all night? That is the gem at the end of the episode.

"True Blood" is officially over, and we're currently covered in a combination of tears, comfort food, and Eric Northman posters. HBO's long-standing vampire drama went all out for its finale season, by which we mean they killed off half the population of Bon Temps -- including Bill Compton. Despite Sookie Stackhouse's fairy feels, Bill met his maker in the"True Blood" final moments -- but his demise is just the tip of the iceberg.
Ready to take a walk down memory lane and revisit this season's goriest, most fangtastic deaths? Well, we've rounded up every obliteration for you to look back on (with GIFs, of course!), so go ahead and pour one out for our fallen homies.
Name: Tara Thornton Time of Death: Season 7, Episode 1 ("Jesus Gonna Be Here") If Tara's untimely doom seems somewhat familiar, it's probably because she died back in Season 4 and turned into a vampire.

Guillermo del Toro is the kind of filmmaker who leaves me wanting more — just not always in the best way. Whether he's adapting someone else's work with the "Hellboy" films, or inventing his own stories with something like "Pan's Labyrinth," del Toro leaves no hallucinatory stone unturned, no burst of inspiration unexplored. I've often walked out of his movies impressed by the depth and breadth of the creativity on display, yet frustrated at how little time there was to thoroughly explore it all. I wouldn't want to take away the big budgets and fancy effects work that he can apply to something like "Pacific Rim," but I've been itching for a while to see what del Toro might do with an ongoing television series, where he could drill down deep and expand each concept to its fullest, rather than rushing to fit them all into two hours. "The Strain," the...

It's an odd combination: pre-school puppet show meets some of TV's most adult, violent, sex-charged drama, but it's showing no signs of going away. In addition to Sesame Street's clutch of film parodies (if you've not seen it, we can recommend Hunger Games: Catching Fire), the PBS children's show has been spoofing TV's best and brightest for years.
