Yes, I know that Alex and Sierra are fan-favorites, but come on — who could really create a hit record? Think about the radio for a moment, and it’s Jeff who can be a hit maker!
If there was any contestant who delivered big-time with their X Factor finale performances Dec. 18, it was Jeff Gutt. The Detroit-born 37-year-old with the sexy, raspy voice was a rock star with every note.
Jeff Gutt Should Win Over Alex & Sierra On ‘The X Factor’
While Alex & Sierra are cute and delivered a pretty rendition of “Say Something,” they totally wimped out on both their duet of “Bleeding Love” with Leona Lewis and their delicate rendition of “Give Me Love”.
Hey, I know it’s heartwarming to see them look adoringly into each other’s eyes, but honestly, when was the last time that a sugary, folksy duo ever had a hit record? I’m sorry,...

We're in the home stretch: The X Factor crowns a winner tonight. "I think this is going to be one of the closest finals we've ever had, and we've seen a few upsets over the weeks," Simon Cowell said, as if warning viewers that something was amiss.
Rolling Stone's Complete Coverage of 'The X Factor'
And indeed it was: After weeks of stellar performances, presumed frontrunners Alex and Sierra faltered ever so slightly at a time when it's crucial for them to be spot-on. Jeff Gutt had the spotlight on him all night.

Paulina Rubio (Code name: “Still No Idea Who That Is”) finally got her Big Moment on The X Factor tonight. The occupant of the Britney Spears Chair of English Manglage and Barely Formed Thoughts has shone especially dim during her Season 3 tenure — particularly sitting alongside the high-wattage wit and wisdom of Kelly Rowland and the scrappy sparkle of Demi Lovato.
Unfortunately for Pow-leena (as host Mario Lopez prefers to overemphasize it), the Big Moment probably didn’t resemble what she and her management team had envisioned when she hopped aboard Fox’s second-most-popular reality singing competition (out of two).

Novelty acts, not-as-funny-as-you-think fame-seekers and the mentally/emotionally unstable, your time is up!
The X Factor‘s Season 3 auditions have come to their inevitable end, making way for something called “The Four-Chair Challenge.” (Cue a Christina Aguilera side-eye as she realizes this phrase sounds like what happens when all four coaches press their buttons during The Voice audition rounds. We’re with you on this one, Xtina, even if the X Factor’s new substitute for “Boot Camp” and “Judges’ Houses” has nothing to do with rotating seats or “blinds.”)

Stop giving me White Castle and telling me it’s filet mignon! That, in a Styrofoam container, is my desperate message to Simon Cowell and his producing cronies at The X Factor.
Tonight’s installment — the fifth one focusing on the Season 3 audition rounds — was littered with mediocre vocalists who received lavish praise and occasional standing ovations from a judging panel that really should (and probably does) know better.
Don’t get me wrong: Demi Lovato brings a sassy charm to her role as The Voice of The Youth (Tm pending). But I just cahhhhhhn’t when she stares down...

I laughed. I cried. I seriously contemplated setting my television on fire.
Yep, it’s just another Wednesday night watching The X Factor, the show where every audience reaction shot looks like it’s coming from a wannabe actor feigning enjoyment rather than an actual human who’s digging the music. And yes, now that you ask, I was trying to bury that bit about being moved to tears under a blanket of bitchery.
What can I say? The story about Carlos Guevara — the kid with Tourette’s whose genuine talent trumped his backstory — gave me a case of the weepies.

‘The X Factor’ returned for a super-sized premiere event, and without getting to ahead of myself, I think we might have already met this year’s winner.
The X Factor‘s two-night season premiere continued Sept. 12, and although the second night didn’t have quite as many sexy grandmas as the first, it was still bursting with talent. In fact, it featured what Simon Cowell called the best auditions he’s ever seen on the show — including one young gentleman from Long Island who might just be the next Justin Bieber. Only taller and less Canadian.
Denver Auditions: A Mixed Bag Of Emotions
The first “yes” went to Riley Brown, 15, who performed ‘her’ version of Zedd‘s “Clarity.” She was pretty shaky at first, but then she got better, even to the point where Demi Lovato started to tear up. “I absolutely love you,” Simon told a super-excited Riley,...

When Tate Stevens' wife told him that she had signed him up to audition for The X Factor in Kansas City last year without his knowledge, he was less than enthusiastic about the idea, even telling her flat-out that he wasn't going to go.
"We'd watched the first season," Stevens tells TVGuide.com. "We watched American Idol, The Voice. We watched all those shows. And you see, 15, 20,000 people standing outside in lines. I'm like, 'There's no way I'm going to stand in those lines. No. Not gonna happen.'"
But his wife wouldn't take no for an answer.

The X Factor and The Voice have concluded their respective Season 2 and Season 3 installments, and with the celebratory confetti swept up and carried off to a Los Angeles-area landfill, it seems like the right time to do a post-mortem on how the reality singing competitions’ final results played out.
In this week’s Reality Check, my cohost Melinda Doolittle and I examine how The X Factor‘s Tate Stevens lost the battle of the Top 3 performance finale, but still managed to win the war. (Hint: An unfortunate duet between his arch rival and an embattled country diva probably helped his chances.

Thursday saw The X Factor (3.1/9) wrapping its second season with country singer Tate Stevens declared the winner of a $5 million recording contract. Watched by 9.646 million viewers, the 8-10 Pm live finale was up 29% from last Thursday’s show. However, like Wednesday’s performance finale, X Factor’s season-ender last night was down 18% from the 3.8/11 for its Season 1 finale December 22, 2011. Despite the boost expected from the addition of Britney Spears and Demi Lovato to the judges’ panel this year, X Factor found itself battered in the ratings during its second season. NBC’s The Voice, which went to its first fall season this year, drew a 4.9/13 for its two-hour Season 3 finale on Tuesday. Last night’s X Factor was not even the night’s most-watched show: An 8 Pm repeat of The Big Bang Theory on CBS pulled in 10.923 million viewers. Fox did win Thursda night in total viewers and the adults 18-49 demo.
