New York and London-based American-European entertainment fund Apx Group has appointed Andy Capper as chief operating officer and head of North American operations.
He will oversee strategic and financial coordination of Apx’s North America activity as well as business activities across the European divisions. He will also oversee North American-originating financing activity, integrating Blockchain technology and new opportunities, especially those related to Apxcoin, which Apx launched in July.
Capper will also work closely with London production company Herd, which was formed earlier this year by Shelley Hammond, Ben Dillon, Hollie Richmond and Iggy Ellis, who merged Burning Wheel Productions and The Engine Room.
Herd is currently developing its slate of film and TV content, with the first production due to start shooting this winter.
Capper was previously at Vice Media, where he was chief editor and senior director, helping shape the Vice Media business philosophy. He helped start Vice’s U.

Exclusive: Vice Media's Andy Capper, one of the longest serving producers at the youth-focused brand, has left the company. The fifth annual Brisbane Underground Film Festival continues the scrappy little fest’s continuing mission to bring a little bit of cinematic oddballness to an underserved spot on the globe. The fest takes place on Jan. 8-10 at the Brisbane Powerhouse.
The fest kicks off on Jan. 8 with some local flavor, the documentary Gone Lesbo Gone, directed by Jarret Gahan, which takes a look at the making of an ambitious, but extremely cult level exploitation film, Lesbo-a-Go-Go. This will then be followed by an examination of a cult following on a galactic scale: Lil’ Bub & Friendz, directed by Andy Capper & Juliette Eisner, which brings the Internet cat video phenomenon to the big screen.
The real highlight of the fest, though — according to the Underground Film Journal — is Usama Alshaibi‘s incredibly personal and thought-provoking documentary American Arab, which examines the Arab experience in a post-9/11 world through personal recollections as...

Fall is a wonderful time of year (pumpkin-flavored treats! Cooling weather!), but it also means longer nights and shorter days, which can lead to seasonal affective disorder. Although we are not doctors, we'd like to prescribe the cat documentary "Lil Bub & Friendz" to anyone who is feeling a little blue as the summer winds down -- or any time of the year, for that matter.
In case you didn't know, Lil Bub is a cat, and she is amazing. She has her own website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, Instagram, book, and talk show (or meow show?). The tiny, toothless "perma-kitten" has been stealing hearts since she first appeared in YouTube videos doing things like crawling around and eating yogurt. Whoopi Goldberg loves Lil Bub! And so does Andrew Wk.

★★★☆☆ For centuries, cat owners have been forced to lead a lonely existence whilst their canine-owning friends meet and cohort in parks across the globe. Then came the internet, a haven for porn addicts and lonely felinophiles; a glorified, electronic moggy idyll where enthusiasts can share and celebrate the inane activities of their four-legged feline companions - with sites like YouTube becoming a breeding ground for overnight stardom. However, one particular pussy phenomenon has risen above her online eminence and taken the leap from the web to the big screen by starring in her own little movie, Lil Bub & Friendz (2013).
Despite featuring a host of famous internet cat memes such as Nyan Cat, Grumpy Cat and Keyboard Cat, Andy Capper and Juliette Eisner have chosen Lil Bub as the focus of their benign investigation into the incredible rise in popularity of online kitties. We're first introduced to Bub through a garish...

Title: Lil Bub & Friendz Screened At: Tribeca Film Festival 2013 Directed By: Andy Capper, Juliette Eisner Starring: Lil Bub, Mike Bridavsky, Ben Lashes The cute cat effect is there, but the tragedy of Lil Bub’s condition, the lack of a well constructed narrative, and the inclusion of some weakly related side stories keep “Lil Bub & Friendz” from being as fun and poignant as it could have been. For those who aren’t in-the-know, Lil Bub is the ultimate Internet cat celebrity. One day a video of Bub popped up on YouTube, showing her stalking and then pouncing on the camera. Lil Bub, of Lil Bub & Friendz fame, made herself at home on the red carpet with companion Mike Bridavsky, directors Andy Capper and Juliette Eisner, along with Bub editor, Devin Yuceil, and Vice Co-Founder, Suroosh Alvi for the Tribeca Film Festival World Premiere at the Sva Theatre in Chelsea last night.
Andy Capper’s and Juliette Eisner’s high-spirited Lil Bub & Friendz captures the adventures of “a tiny complex creature,” who found her way from “somewhere in space,” to become one of the most beloved cats on the internet. She is a classic fairy tale hero. The little underdog, or cat, who starts with nothing in the world and then gives back.
I had a chance, just before Lil Bub made her red carpet appearance, to have a discussion with Dr. Jeffrey Bussolini, Director of the Center for Feline Studies/Feline Interaction Laboratory, the first center of its kind...

If you've been entertained by internet cat videos -- and, let's face it, we all have -- chances are strong that you will find something amusing about "Lil Bub and Friendz." Then again, the entry point for appreciating this light-headed look at viral phenomena, produced by Vice's ever-expanding media empire, begins with the videos themselves, particularly those featuring the adorably toothless Bub. The movie embodies the awesomely silly, indisputably stupid appeal that cat videos have garnered in the YouTube era, but never manages to coalesce into much beyond its inherently amusing qualities. Playfully introduced in an opening sequence that imagines Bub arriving from an alien world, the malformed creature is revealed to belong to Indiana-based musician Mike Bridavsky, whose struggling career was rejuvenated by his pet's sudden viral fame. From there, directors Andy Capper and Juliette Eisner expand their survey to explore the recent explosion of cat videos and the subculture that has.

We all love cats. We're all guilty of spending ridiculous amounts of time indulging in cat videos, cat memes, and for some of us, even following famous cat Twitters. Grumpy Cat may be the most well-known cat of last year, but filmmakers Juliette Eisner and Andy Capper propose there is a more famous, more lovable -- and definitely more positive -- celebrity cat: Lil Bub. It may seem absurd that the cat video phenomenon has gone to the level of a full documentary feature, but "Lil Bub & Friendz" explore this craze and introduces us to some of our favorite famous kitties across the country (don't deny your excitement). What it's about: Juliette: Cats Andy: Love and death About the filmmaker: Juliette: Beauty and the beast. Andy: Juliette, you are not a beast. Don't be so hard on yourself. What else do you want audiences to know about your film?...

Now in its 12th year, the Tribeca Film Festival is one of the premiere artistic showcases and industry marketplaces for independent cinema. Sundance might still be the place to go to discover new talent on the cheap, Toronto is the festival to generate Oscar buzz, but Tribeca has an eclectic mix that both reflects the soul of native New Yorkers and what the city means to the rest of the world as a cultural international capital. In between tonight’s opener — the music documentary Mistaken for Strangers about the National — and the closing night’s special screening of Martin Scorsese...

This story first appeared in the April 26 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. While film festivals often shine a spotlight on unknown artists, Tribeca’s decision to screen Juliette Eisner and Andy Capper’s feature-length Lil Bub & Friendz is a clever inversion of that classic model. The documentary dives into the weird world of Internet cat videos, including those of the tiny, deformed and impossibly cute Lil Bub. Photos: 10 Awkward Family Pet Photos “According to some people, the CIA plans to use cats as espionage agents,” Eisner and Capper told THR in an e-mail, “but

Thanks to her otherworldly cuteness, wide-eyed "perma-kitten" Lil Bub is the Internet's favorite celebri-kitty. Her bright green eyes sparkle with perpetual wonder, and her little pink tongue sticks out beneath an upper lip that's always smiling. She's also polydactyl -- meaning she has thumbs. When her human, Mike Bridavsky, needs cheering up, he stretches out on the couch and lets her lick his beard for a while. All of these quirks raise a very important question: Has Bub been specifically designed and calibrated by an alien intelligence to shatter our limited human understanding of cuteness? Andy Capper and Juliette Eisner, directors and producers of the new documentary Lil Bub & Friendz, will neither c...

In New York City, on a beautiful spring morning I met up with the directors Andy Capper and Juliette Eisner for a conversation on their film Lil Bub & Friendz, which will have its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. The high-spirited film captures the adventures of "a tiny complex creature", who found her way from "somewhere in space," to become one of the most beloved cats on the internet.
I asked how the cats featured in the movie were chosen and Andy Capper told me: "We wanted the big names. An A-list cast. [Could Capper be using an anagram here?] Like in Ocean's Eleven you have Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, George Clooney. We have Grumpy Cat, Nyan Cat, Keyboard Cat, Lil Bub - the main dudes. We wanted an all-star cast."

Andy Capper's risible documentary records in an incoherent fashion the spiritual journey (or ego trip) taken by rapper Snoop Dogg to Jamaica after first bringing peace to America's warring rap world on behalf his friend Louis Farrakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam. Accompanied by a motley crew, Snoop's aim was to get in touch with his inner Rastafarian, to exchange rap for reggae, and make an album in Kingston. He seems to have spent much of his time on the weed and wreathed in holy smoke, and the result is comic, pretentious and tedious. The encounter with Bunny Wailer, the reggae performer who was with Bob Marley from the beginning, is unintentionally hilarious, and all I can say is honi soit qui Marley pense.

Any probing into Snoop Dogg's conversion to Rastafarianism disappears in a puff of ganja smoke in a weak documentary
Snoop Dogg is dead. Rise up Snoop Lion. This, according to Vice magazine editor Andy Capper's slavering documentary, is the rebirth of the Long Beach rap hero into a full dread Rasta. After making a career from gangster rap, the D-o-double-g has renounced violence, so it's off to Kingston, Jamaica (a crucible of peace, love and unity in this doc), where Snoop can be filmed smoking an awful lot of ganja and making an album of puff-light reggae with producer Diplo. Bar a gentle sparring session with the legend Bunny Wailer, there's little discussion of Snoop's appropriation of this lifestyle, just as there's no real explanation of Rastafarianism's traditions other than smoking weed. Snoop's motives seem pure, his heart in the right place. There could have been an interesting...

★★★☆☆ As far as Us rapper Snoop Dogg (now 'Snoop Lion') is concerned, he's in reassuring hands throughout new doc Reincarnated (2012) - a righteous Rastafarian riding on an overbearing wave of hallucinogenic happiness in the heart of Jamaica. Dogg's faded cousin even accompanies him on this augmented road to Jah's enlightenment. So far, so good for the superstar smoker. What may have been intended as the jewel in Reincarnated's crown is the involvement of first-time director and Vice cardinal Andy Capper, who utilises his progressionist nous to capture every moment of Dogg's gradual evolution into a higher form; into Lion.

The Vice Magazine-produced film "Lil Bub & Friendz" tackles the pressing issue of the adorable cat epidemic. Directed by Andy Capper (the director of Vice's Snoop Dogg/Lion doc "Reincarnated") and Juliette Eisner, "Lil Bub & Friendz" takes a look at the Internet's obsession with the feline species through all of the many kitty cats that have become Internet famous, but especially for one bow-legged, toothless kitty named Lil Bub. The film will premiere at next month's Tribeca Film Festival. Here are the film's three film homage posters: Check out the trailer below:...

Editor's Note: This interview originally ran during the Toronto International Film Festival. "Reincarnated" opens in theaters in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, and Austin today. An unlikely presence at this year's Toronto International Film Festival was the man formerly known as Snoop Dogg (and Snoop Doggy Dogg before that), Snoop Lion. Snoop was at the festival with a film that explains the rather epic story behind that name change, "Reincarnated." Directed by Vice Magazine global editor Andy Capper, the film depicts the professional and spiritual upheaval that Snoop experienced during a trip to Jamaica in which he would abandon his career as a hip hop artist and record his first reggae album. During his time in Jamaica, Snoop spent time with reggae legend Bunny Wailer. After sharing some smoke with Wailer in his home, Wailer enthuiastically dubbed Snoop "a lion!" And thus, Snoop Lion was born.

Austin, Texas -- In hip-hop terms, using three names in four decades qualifies as a sign of remarkable consistency.
So expectations were high when Snoop Lion, the rapper born Calvin Broadus who rose to fame in the gangsta rap 1990s as Snoop Doggy Dogg, emerged Thursday for the premiere of his new movie, album and identity.
For "Reincarnated," the documentary that made its domestic debut at the South by Southwest Film Festival, filmmakers followed Snoop to Jamaica, where he marinated in Rastafari culture. He emerged with the new name, plus a reggae album and a political agenda.
Some of his views marked more of a departure than others. In the song "No Guns Allowed," for example, he renounces gunplay.
"Anti-bad things," said the film's director, Andy Capper, "whereas before he celebrated the bad things."

Lil Bub was born a star.
The perma-kitten, with her ridiculous tongue and gigantic eyes, finally has the documentary treatment she deserves. It's no surprise that Vice's "Lil Bub & Friendz" has already been accepted into the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
But it's been a long road for Lil Bub and her gang of Internet-famous pussies -- Grumpy Cat, Nyan Cat and Keyboard Cat -- complete with all the lashings out you'd expect from a budding icon.
Gallery: Lil Bub (story continues below):
In November last year, Lil Bub famously talked smack about Grumpy Cat to HuffPost Weird News (and Vice documentarian Juliette Eisner caught all the action on camera). In December, Bub made the talk show rounds and even sat down with Andrew Wk to promote "kindness and positivity in the face of adversity."
Eisner, who directed and produced the film with Vice's Andy Capper, said...

Well, we're sure these screenings will sell out in a matter of seconds.
The 2013 Tribeca Film Festival has the honor of hosting the world premiere of "Lil Bub & Friends," a documentary that explores the phenomenon of Internet cats and memes through the tale of Lil Bub's rise to online fame.

Starring Lil Bub, Grumpy Cat, Nyan Cat, Keyboard Cat and the Internet as Itself, "Lil Bub & Friends" chronicles Lil Bub's journey to stardom, the world of "cat people" through the first-ever Internet Cat Video Film Festival and the ultra-virality of cat-related videos and memes. The film is co-directed by Andy Capper and Juliette Eisner; Capper recently directed "Reincarnated," the documentary about Snoop Dogg's rebirth as "Snoop Lion.

Some of the best films of the 2012/2013 calender year from Richard Linklater, Harmony Korine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Bujalski, Jeff Nichols, David Gordon Green, Shane Carruth and Joshua Oppenheimer are among the headliner names for the 2013 edition of the South by Southwest Film Festival. With a little over 100 plus film line-up (a whopping 2000+ titles were submitted), almost 70 are world premieres: there is the highly anticipated sophomore film (that has been on our radar since it first went into production) with M. Blash’s (The Wait), Joe Swanberg who makes SXSW his second home will premiere Drinking Buddies, veteran indie filmmaker John Sayles saddles in with Go For Sisters, and rounding out the Narrative Spotlight section we’ve got The Bounceback from Bryan Poyser, Loves Her Gun from Geoff Marslett along with titles we thought might break into Park City, but found an Austin home instead with Jacob Vaughan’s Milo and...
