After a years-long, arduous journey toward redemption, the Golden Globes has finally found a new long-term home. On Monday, March 25, The Golden Globe Awards announced that it has made a five-deal with CBS to broadcast the award show on the network, and stream it live on the affiliated streaming service Paramount+. Though CBS already aired the Globes this year, the new agreement does not go into effect until the January 2025 broadcast.
Though the awards show has had a rocky few years in wake of a 2021 LA Times investigation that revealed a lack of diversity among its membership, and shady conduct, the news that it has been picked up does not come as a total surprise. The recent 81st annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 7 drew 9.4 million viewers, up nearly 50 percent from the 2023 broadcast on NBC, the show’s longtime home. The 2024 Golden Globes telecast was also the third-largest...

The Golden Globes will continue to air on CBS for the next five years thanks to a new deal between the network and Dick Clark Productions, TVLine has learned. The agreement, which was announced Monday, not only confirms the show’s home for the foreseeable future, but also includes its live-streaming on Paramount+. It all begins with the January 2025 broadcast.
“CBS’ collaboration with the Globes for this year’s broadcast was a big win for both of us and established strong momentum for awards shows in 2024,” President and CEO of CBS George Cheeks said in a statement. “The Globes is...

The Golden Globes will air on CBS and livestream on Paramount+ for another five years, per a new deal that also puts the American Music Awards on the Eye Network. The agreement kicks off with the January 2025 telecast of the Globes.
January 2024 marked the Golden Globes’ first ceremony since being acquired by Dick Clark Productions. (Variety parent company Pmc owns Dick Clark Prods. in a joint venture with Eldridge.) Previously, the show was produced by Dick Clark through an agreement with the now-dissolved Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whose scandals caused NBC to drop the show in 2022 before airing it again in 2023.
The renewed agreement between the CBS and Dick Clark is unsurprising, as the Globes saw success on the network this year, reaching 9.4 million viewers on Jan. 8 — a 50% increase from NBC’s 2023 telecast — which grew to 10 million after one week of delayed viewing.

Exclusive: Two months after the Golden Globes aired on CBS for the first time in more than four decades, the network has closed a new five-year deal to continue to broadcast the awards show and stream it live on Paramount+.
The new agreement, announced by George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS, and Jay Penske, Chairman and CEO of Deadline parent Penske Media and Dick Clark Productions, kicks off with the January 2025 broadcast. The pact also includes the American Music Awards moving to CBS. Both awards shows are owned and produced by Dick Clark Productions.
The early, long-term renewal of the Golden Globes is in contrast to the one-year pact for the 2024 ceremony, which CBS closed less than two months before the January 7 show.
It recognizes the broadcast’s ratings success, with the 81st Golden Globes averaging 9.96 million viewers in Live+7, up nearly +50% from last year’s low on NBC...

Heading into Sunday’s Golden Globe ceremony, Ricky Gervais was not confident he would win the first-ever award for Best TV Stand-Up Comedy Performance. “I’m nominated for another Golden Globe tonight,” he wrote early Sunday about his “Armageddon” Netflix special. “Won’t win, but it’s nice to still be up there in the mix, flying the flag.” Well, he did end up winning, but he wasn’t in attendance to accept his prize.
Hours after the ceremony wrapped up, Gervais posted a three-word acceptance speech on social media as only he could: “I f***ing won!” The comedian accompanied the remark with a photo of him holding a Golden Globe from when he hosted the ceremony years earlier — see below.

Gervais later followed that up with some more, shall we say, heartfelt words of wisdom.

Heading into the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 7, “Succession” was the show to beat as it scored a record nine nominations — more than any other television show in history. Some of the other top nominees on the TV side were “The Bear” and “Only Murders in the Building” with five noms apiece, and “The Crown” with four bids. But which shows ended up being the big winners during the three-hour ceremony?
Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress was the first TV category handed out this year, and it went to Ali Wong (“Beef”), who is also predicted to prevail at next week’s Emmys. She beat out Riley Keough (“Daisy Jones & the Six”), Brie Larson (“Lessons in Chemistry”), Elizabeth Olson (“Love and Death”), Juno Temple (“Fargo”) and Rachel Weisz (“Dead Ringers”).

Here is Deadline’s live blog of the hopefully new and improved Golden Globes. It’s a new iteration of the awards on CBS after the Globes’ longtime network, NBC, ended its relationship after the awards show’s previous management was scandalized by revelations that the now-defunct HFPA had no Black voting members, among other improprieties.
Now the Globes are a for-profit venture under Dick Clark Productions, which is co-owned by Deadline parent Pmc and Eldridge and run by Pmc CEO Jay Penske, with 300 voters (some of them paid) representing 76 countries.
The live blog again was handled by Deadline’s executive awards editor Joe Utichi and co-editor in chief Mike Fleming Jr, along with contributions by Deadline staffers who are at the Beverly Hilton on the red carpet, in the room and backstage. And as usual, we promise not to pull punches.

On Jan. 13, the 10th season of Formula E (a race car competition consisting only of teams using electric and sustainable engines) kicks off with the Hankook E-Prix in Mexico City.
On Jan. 2, the new season of Formula E Unplugged, the docuseries on the fast-growing motorsport, drops on YouTube, chronicling last year’s exciting and tense season. THR Roma got a sneak preview of the show via one of the season’s leading protagonists: The DS Penske team. (Jay Penske is founder and owner of DS Penske. The Hollywood Reporter is a subsidiary of Penske-owned Penske Business Media, LLC).
Now in its third season, the series aims to do for Formula E what Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive did for the better-known motorsport: Provide a behind-the-curtain look at the crazy circus that is the electric car racing circuit and spark interest in a new generation of E-racing fans.

The Golden Globes continue to reform in unexpected ways: The rejiggered organization has introduced two new categories to its live awards show in January. While Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television is a bit more traditional, following the lead of the Emmys and the Grammys in having a dedicated category for stand-up comedy specials released on a recognized media platform, the other award builds upon a controversial premise first put forward by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2018.
The Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement will include nominees from the year’s most acclaimed, highest-earning and/or most viewed films that have extensive global audience support. Eligibility will be measured by a mix of box office grosses and commensurate digital streaming viewership recognized by trusted industry sources. Films released after November 22 may qualify based on box office and/or streaming projections. Once a film qualifies,...

Penske Entertainment, which owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the IndyCar Series, is giving a new car to the owner of a Chevrolet that was damaged by a flying tire during the Indianapolis 500.
A spokesperson told The Indianapolis Star on Wednesday that Penske Entertainment will give Robin Matthews of Indianapolis a new car.
The damage occurred when driver Kirk Kirkwood’s car launched off the back of another driver who hit the wall between Turns 1 and 2. Kirkwood’s car flipped, and his tire went soaring over the fence that protects spectators. Fortunately, the flying tire missed the crowd and landed in the parking lot, where it crushed the Chevrolet owned by Matthews.
IndyCar owner Roger Penske (the father of Penske Media CEO Jay Penske) said an investigation will be held into why the tire came off. Tires are supposed to stay attached to the Indy cars via tethers, which were...

Nikki Finke, the longtime entertainment journalist who reshaped the business of covering Hollywood, has died at the age of 68 after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness. The news was confirmed by Deadline, the publication she founded.
After early stints with the Associated Press, Newsweek, the Los Angeles Times, and The New York Observer, Finke rose to prominence when she launched her Deadline Hollywood column for LA Weekly in 2002. The column was notable for Finke’s distinctive voice, unflinching coverage of Hollywood’s most powerful figures, and willingness to shatter industry norms. Finke eventually spun off the column into a blog first known as Deadline Hollywood Daily and later truncated to Deadline Hollywood, which allowed her to break stories without the rigidity of a scheduled column.

Nikki Finke, the polarizing entertainment journalist who founded the website Deadline and wielded immense power by focusing an acerbic and unrelenting lens on Hollywood, has died. She was 68.
Finke died Sunday in Boca Raton, Florida, following a prolonged illness, a family spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.
At L.A. Weekly, Finke headed its Deadline Hollywood Daily column from 2002-09. In 2006, she launched Deadline Hollywood Daily, an around-the-clock online version, and became a key source of news surrounding the 2007 WGA strike.
That year, The New York Times‘ Brian Stelter wrote that Finke’s blog had “become a critical forum for Hollywood news and gossip, known for analyzing (in sometimes insulting terms) the behind-the-scenes maneuvering of moguls,” with her reporting on the strike ultimately solidifying “her position as a Hollywood power broker.”
Finke landed scoops with a cut-throat style that both impressed and incensed industry members.

On July 15, 1996, IndieWire launched as an e-mail newsletter providing “the daily news service for independent film.” (See the first newsletter here.) The original iteration of the site was the brainchild of Cheri Barner, Eugene Hernandez and Mark Rabinowitz, three recent college students obsessed with the movies.
