Rome, March 20 (Ians) Juventus registered their fourth consecutive win on all fronts with a morale-boosting Derby d’Italia victory on Sunday night, as they beat Inter Milan 1-0 at San Siro thanks to Filip Kostic’s controversial goal.
This was a big showdown with a great deal at stake, as Inter were desperate to end their poor run while Juve were seeking to close the gap to fourth place.
The battle started in favour of the Nerazzurri, who gave the away side a hard time, but Juve took the lead in the 23rd minute when Kostic hit in a screamer after some good teamwork, a Xinhua report said.
There was a question mark over the goal as Adrien Rabiot was suspected of a handball in the build-up, but after a Var check, the referee gave it the green light.

Lionel Messi and his teammates continue celebrating Argentina’s new title as FIFA World Cup champions.
He was seen Monday sitting atop the bus with fellow champions Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo De Paul, Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi as the team arrived home following their win in the final against France. Paredes rocked an Argentine flag as a cape while Di Maria flaunted the golden trophy. The soccer players all rocked medals that hung around their necks.

Upon their arrival in Argentina, thousands of fans crowded the streets to welcome the athletes home. They were welcomed with a parade that was so large the team had to be transferred to a helicopter.
“The World Champions are flying over the entire route in helicopters because it became impossible to continue on land due to the explosion of popular joy,” a presidential spokeswoman said on Twitter.

Lionel Messi: FIFA World Cup champion. Perhaps the greatest soccer player of his generation, the Argentina star capped his storybook career Sunday with an extra time goal to help his home country secure its first World Cup tournament win in 36 years as Argentina defeated France in a gripping, rollercoaster final match in Qatar.
The yerba mate-infused Argentina controlled the pace from the onset, keeping possession and applying pressure that — while not resulting in a goal or any close calls — kept France, the defending World Cup champions, on the defensive...

At the end of half time La Albiceleste led 2-0 as Messi converted a spot kick in the 34th minute to give them the lead and Julian Alvarez struck with a sublime solo effort to give the South American side a comfortable 2-0 lead going into the half time break.
Argentina kept the scoring tempo to add a third one in the 69th minute with Alvarez netting his second of the match.
The Argentina captain, who will be playing his second World Cup final on Sunday, having finished as runner-up in the 2014 final to Germany, will be keen to hold aloft the trophy on December 18 at the Lusail Stadium.
The 35-year-old and his teammates will await the winner of Wednesday’s second semi-final between defending champions France and rank outsiders Morocco to see whom they will take on in the title clash.

Doha (Qatar), Dec 10 (Ians) Both Argentina and the Netherlands face disciplinary action from FIFA as a result of some ugly scenes towards the end of their dramatic World Cup quarterfinal match at Lusail Stadium on Friday night.
The first major incident in the game, which Argentina won on penalties after surrendering a 2-0 lead to a late Dutch fightback, came in the 89th minute, after Leandro Paredes committed a nasty foul on Dutch defender Nathan Ake and then slammed the ball into the Netherlands’ dugout.
That saw players and technical staff from both teams involved in pushing and shoving, and hostilities were resumed after Wout Weghorst equalised for the Netherlands in the 10th minute of injury time, reports Xinhua.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association due to potential breaches of articles 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) and 16 (Order and security at matches) of the...

Doha, Dec 8 (Ians) Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni said Thursday he could not guarantee the availability of midfielders Rodrigo De Paul and Angel Di Maria for his team’s World Cup quarterfinal against the Netherlands.
De Paul is in doubt with a right hamstring strain while Di Maria is recovering from a quadriceps problem that forced him to miss the Albiceleste’s 2-1 victory over Australia in the round of 16, reports Xinhua news agency.
“In principle, De Paul and Di Maria are fine,” Scaloni told a news conference ahead of Friday’s match in Lusail.
“I can’t say if they are going to play or not. It’s strange that (journalists) know that something is happening because yesterday’s training was behind closed doors. I don’t know where this information comes from.”

Buenos Aires, Nov 12 (Ians) As Roma forward Paulo Dybala has been named in Argentina’s squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar despite a hamstring tear, the country’s football association has said.
The 28-year-old has not played since sustaining the injury in a 2-1 home win over Lecce in Italy’s Serie A on October 9.
Local media reported on Friday the former Juventus star began light training this week and he will be in a race against time to be fit for Argentina’s first match against Saudi Arabia on November 22. The Albicleste will also face Mexico and Poland in Group C, reports Xinhua.
As expected, Argentina’s wealth of attacking options also include Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi, Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez and Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.
Manager Lionel Scaloni also called up midfielders Leandro Paredes (Juventus) and Rodrigo De Paul (Atletico Madrid) in his 26-man squad.
