Alpha, the new, still-top-secret film from Titane director Julia Ducournau will be one of the hot projects being shopped to buyers at this year’s Cannes film market.
About Elly and Paterson actress Golshifteh Farahani and French star Tahar Rahim (A Prophet, The Mauritanian) are set to star in the feature, the plot details of which are still under wraps. Eric Altmayer and Nicolas Altmayer are producing for Mandarin & Compagnie, with Jean des Forêts and Amélie Jacquis for Petit Film, in co-production with Jean-Yves Roubin and Cassandre Warnauts of Frakas Productions. Delivery is planned for later this year.
Alpha will be Ducournau’s third feature after the one-two punch of her 2016 breakout debut Raw, which won the international film critics’ Fipresci Prize in its Cannes Critics’ Week debut; and Titane, the surprise Palme d’Or winner of 2021, which became France’s official Oscar contender that year.

Cats, call your agents. Top creatives are increasingly giving the notoriously tough-to-train pets dramatic roles in live-action projects.
In Steven Zaillian’s acclaimed Netflix limited series Ripley, a Maine Coon dubbed Lucio has been called “a main character.” In Paramount’s upcoming A Quiet Place: Day One, Lupin Nyong’o plays woman struggling to escape an alien invasion with her tuxedo cat Frodo. Last fall, Disney’s The Marvels co-starred a deadly super-powered ginger cat Goose. In Matthew Vaughn’s spy comedy Argylle, which has just started streaming on Apple TV+, Bryce Dallas Howard is on the run from assassins with her Scottish Fold Alfie.
This streak is unusual, and likely unprecedented. Dogs get leading roles in a live-action movies all the time. Cats get leading roles in animated movies all the time. But cats in live action is a whole other ball of yarn. Occasionally a film will put...

Apple Original Films announced today that Matthew Vaughn’s action comedy romance feature film Argylle will make its global streaming debut on Apple TV+ beginning Friday, April 12.
Released in theaters on February 2, 2024, the film was rated PG-13 by the MPA for strong violence, action, and some strong language. The film grossed $95.3 million at the worldwide box office, with $45.2 million coming from North American theaters and $50.1 million from international markets.
In anticipation of Argylle‘s streaming debut, K-pop superstars The Boyz have reimagined “Electric Energy,” the Ariana DeBose-led hit from Argylle. The soundtrack and today’s single release of “Electric Energy (Reimagination)” by The Boyz are available on all music streaming platforms.
Originally written by Gary Barlow, Stuart Price, Matthew Vaughn, and Lorne Balfefor for Matthew Vaughn’s razor-witted, reality-bending spy thriller, the song undergoes a remarkable transformation as produced by Stuart Price in collaboration with Lorne Balfe for Platoon.

If you’re in the mood for a light-hearted spy adventure with plenty of twists and turns that will make your head spin, Argylle is set to make its streaming debut later this month. Although director Matthew Vaughn has plans for sequels, he stated that he wanted to wait and see how the first film fared. Unfortunately for Vaughn, it wouldn’t become a success at the box office, earning just $92 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million. After its low performance, the star-studded action comedy will hope to find a second life as it premieres on AppleTV+ on Friday, April 12.

Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle didn’t exactly impress at the box office, earning just $92 million worldwide on a budget of $200 million, but folks who missed the movie in theaters will soon have the opportunity to check it out for themselves. Apple Original Films announced today that Argylle will receive a release on premium video-on-demand and digital very soon, like, tomorrow.
Agylle will debut on VOD and Digital in the U.S. and Canada on March 5th. The movie will be available to stream globally on Apple TV+ at a later date.
Argylle stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly Conway, a reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books — which center on secret agent Argylle (Henry Cavill) and his mission to unravel a global spy...

Believe it or not, but it’s been nearly eight years since the release of Gore Verbinski’s last movie — the underrated A Cure for Wellness — but the director finally has a new project in the works. Deadline reports that Verbinski has assembled a fantastic ensemble of actors for his action-adventure movie titled Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.
Sam Rockwell, one of my all-time favourite actors, will be leading the cast, which includes Haley Lu Richardson (The White Lotus), Juno Temple (Fargo), Michael Peña (Ant-Man and the Wasp), and Zazie Beetz (Joker). Rockwell will star as a “man from the future” who arrives at a Los Angeles diner to recruit a “precise combination of disgruntled patrons to join him on a one-night-six-block quest to save the world from the terminal threat of a rogue artificial intelligence.“

Move over, Nick Fury, it’s Mace Windu’s time to shine! At least, that’s what would happen if Samuel L. Jackson had anything to do with it. Jackson first played Mace Windu in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, but unfortunately, the Jedi Master met his end in Revenge of the Sith after his hand was sliced off by Anakin and he was flung out of a window by Palpatine’s Force lightning. However, Jackson is confident that Mace Windu didn’t die and would jump at the chance to return for a series on Disney+.
While speaking with Empire for their issue celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Samuel L. Jackson had just one thing to say about Mace Windu’s supposed demise: “He’S Not Dead!!!” Aside from a brief voice appearance in The Rise of Skywalker, Mace Windu hasn’t come back from the dead,...

Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle seems to have spilt audiences and critics all over the world. From being branded as over-the-top fun, to the worst film of the year. While it’s neither of them, at times it can be argued that it’s fallen into each argument.
Bryce Dallas Howard plays Elly Conway, an author who has written a series of best-selling spy novels, all of which focus on the heroic action hero, Argylle. We first see agent Argylle in action, played by Henry Cavill, who has, unfortunately, been given the worst haircut ever put to screen. Sporting his dreadful haircut he’s on a mission, one that is filled with over-the-top dialogue and action, and some of the worst CGI you’re likely to see,...

Sex scenes in movies and television have come under fire more often recently, and it turns out that you can count Henry Cavill among those who aren’t a fan of them.
Henry Cavill appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast alongside Argylle director Matthew Vaughn, where he admitted that he feels sex scenes should be left to our imaginations.
“I don’t understand them, I’m not a fan,” Cavill said. “I think there are circumstances where a sex scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience, but I think sometimes they’re overused these days. It’s when you have a sense where you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothing on?’ And that’s when you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here, there’s not a piece...

Few films have changed the landscape of horror like The Blair Witch Project. Purporting to be recovered footage from a doomed documentary, the story follows three filmmakers who venture into the Black Hills of Maryland to investigate the legend of the Blair Witch. They never return. This lean and mean film was cobbled together from hours of footage shot by the actors improvising fictionalized versions of themselves. Directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez made the bold choice to never show the titular monster, elevating the film from a creepy tale set in a haunted woods to one of the most terrifying, profitable, and ambitious horror films of all time. Though her face remains in the shadows, the Blair Witch has become a cultural phenomenon with a legacy that reaches far beyond the real life entities who may have inspired her creation.

There's something to be said for keeping a movie's marketing simple. Matthew Vaughn's new action-comedy spy thriller "Argylle" opened in theaters this week, after more than two years of Vaughn claiming that the movie was based on an upcoming novel by mysterious first-time author Elly Conway. What little buzz there was around this movie generally revolved around Henry Cavill's flat-top hairstyle, complaints about the cat CGI, and speculation that "Elly Conway" might be Taylor Swift.
Those hooks weren't able to drum up more than $6.5 million on opening day, including Thursday previews, putting "Argylle" on track for a $16.5 million opening weekend (per Deadline). That's the same amount that "The Beekeeper" made with the relatively straightforward pitch of "Jason Statham is a beekeeper who kills people with honey and also with guns."
Determining a break-even point for "Argylle" is tricky. Like Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" and Ridley Scott's "Napoleon,...

Composer Lorne Balfe has spent his career working on blockbusters including “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning” but even so, Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller “Argylle,” which features an all-star cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell and Henry Cavill, was one for the books. For a start, the soundtrack incorporates the Beatles’ last-ever record, “Now and Then,” the existence of which Balfe had to keep top secret for over a year until it was finally released last November.
The movie also involved Balfe making an album of cat sounds, provided by Vaughn’s moggy (and Howard’s co-star) Chip. “There were recordings of him while they were filming so we were able to chop it up and make it a percussion library,” says Balfe, a self-confessed dog person. “I’m going to post it on Twitter as a freebie so composers can use it and Chip...

British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn’s helmed a gonzo fantasy with a cross-dressing Robert De Niro, a vigilante superhero flick with a foul-mouthed, killer kid, and a delirious spin on Bond with Colin Firth. But Argylle, his $200 million globe-trotting espionage thriller, has proven to be his most divisive film yet.

This article contains major spoilers for "Argylle," so beware!
"Argylle" is keeping a lot of secrets. While the film's marketing has been squarely focused on teasing the identity of "the real agent Argylle," the movie has even more twists and turns that add new wrinkles to Matthew Vaughn's spy action bonanza (which is now in theaters). While Universal has been keen on keeping the various plot turns under wraps, some of the "Argylle" cast had a difficult time staying quiet about one of the movie's big surprises.
In "Argylle," Bryce Dallas Howard plays Elly Conway, the author behind the successful "Argylle" spy novel series. Suddenly, she finds herself caught up in the real world of spies when dueling secret agent organizations discover that her novels have somehow been accurately predicting what's going to happen in their web of intrigue. Eventually, Elly learns that she's not really author Elly Conway.

The cast of Argylle is absolutely stacked, and all of the talented actors have a blast with the characters they are given.
The new film from Universal Pictures and Apple TV+ follows Elly Conway, an author whose fictional book series centered on a super spy named Agent Argylle is all the rage. Little did she realize that the events in her writing are actually depicting real-life events—which seem to be actively still playing out.
Elly suddenly finds herself on the run with Sam Rockwell’s Aidan as a shadowy organization hunts her down for answers.

"Argylle" arrives in theaters this weekend, and even though critics aren't being overly kind to Matthew Vaughn's latest spy action venture, yours truly had an enjoyable time with the twist-filled story, especially once the hinges are blown off the familiar formula and the "Kingsman" filmmaker really gets to cut loose with a pair of absolutely cuckoo action sequences, the likes of which we've never seen on the big screen before. Initially, I wished the entire movie had that kind of unrestrained madness, but reaching that level of zaniness requires a gradual ascent rather than full-bore throwing you into the insanity from the get-go.
Even if you walked away from "Argylle" frustrated or confused by the movie's many twists and turns, you can't help but admire Vaughn's penchant to take an action movie off the rails. In this case, the third act of...

[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “Argylle.”]
During the final act of Matthew Vaughn’s spy comedy “Argylle,” most audience members will likely find themselves hyper-focused on just what star Bryce Dallas Howard has slapped on to her feet. That’s probably old hat for Howard, who previously weathered a controversy centered on the footwear her “Jurassic World” character, the prickly and prissy Claire Dearing, sported during some seriously scary dino-centric action (remember those heels?). This time around, however, Howard is outfitted in the kind of apparel that should only make audiences stand up and cheer, rather than sit down and moan in sympathy, “Ah, my aching feet!”
In one of the film’s final action sequences, Howard’s Elly — previously a mild-mannered author who spends her time at home writing wildly popular spy novels — taps into the very kind of action she’s used to only writing (there’s a twist on that we won...

The slick, charming spy with a weird box haircut is introduced in director Matthew Vaughn’s 2024 action comedy as the creation of reclusive author Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard).
The PG-13 film begins with the titular character (Henry Cavill) trapped in a room with multiple assassins. He quickly uses his skills and a smoke screen to escape and gives chase to a double agent (Dua Lipa) trying to flee the country.
Cut to Conway who’s doing a celebrity author reading to help publicize her latest novel. To her fans, Elly seems to have it all. Her writing’s so descriptive and realistic that fans even...

Beware of major spoilers for "Argylle" in the following article.
If you catch "Argylle" in theaters this weekend, you'll be treated to a spy action blockbuster packed with so many twists and turns that you can't help but have a good time. Director Matthew Vaughn delivers some wild action sequences, and Sam Rockwell teamed with Bryce Dallas Howard is a surprisingly fantastic pairing. But when a movie has so many plot twists, there's bound to be some confusion. For example, there's a credits scene that might leave some scratching their head if they haven't been keeping up with the inspiration behind the movie. But besides that, the ending of "Argylle" blatantly sets up a sequel with a reveal that adds a new wrinkle to what is arguably the movie's biggest twist.

Chicago – “Argylle” is a nasty, smelly cinematic hairball coughed up on unsuspecting audiences. It’s a collection of half remembered clichés, atrocious writing, incoherent action, and terrible performances. A flaming dumpster fire of which only the great comic actor Catherine O’Hara emerges largely unscathed.

Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) is a spy novelist, and not a very good one judging from the prose quoted in her books. However her books had become very popular telling the adventures of a super suave international man of intrigue Agent Argylle. She herself is a homebody whose most constant companion is her cat Alfie, and struggling with a bit of writer’s block about to end her next book.
Before you can blink twice she finds herself involved in some real life cloak and dagger business, when a shadowy international organization makes the first of many attempts on her life. She’s saved...

“Argylle” is looking to slowly ascend the box office charts this weekend.
Matthew Vaughn’s latest film, a star-studded action comedy about a spy novelist, opened with $1.7 million in Thursday previews at the box office.
“Argylle,” which stars an avalanche of A-listers like Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Dua Lipa and many more, is expected to make between $15 million and $20 million in its opening weekend. It’ll beat “Mean Girls,” the musical adaptation of Tina Fey’s classic comedy, which has been ruling over the box office for the past three weeks in a quiet January.
Universal is distributing the globe-trotting spy film, and Apple produced and financed it for $200 million. For any other company, “Argylle’s” projected opening would be disastrous, but Apple’s $3 trillion market cap means it won’t be as negatively affected by a poor box office showing. This article contains full spoilers for Argylle.
Early in the Matthew Vaughn spy thriller/comedy Argylle, actual secret agent Aiden (Sam Rockwell) needs to calm writer of secret agents Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard). Aiden leans in and calmly tells a story about a mission that required him to scale a tremendous height. Rather than look down, Aiden explains, you just have to look at what’s ahead. “What’s right in front of you, Elly?” he asks, staring directly at the camera.
Argylle might not have the same bratty sense of humor that marked Kick-Ass or Kingsman: The Secret Service, but audiences might feel that Vaughn is trolling them in that scene. For months now, trailers for Argylle have teased an amazing twist, suggesting that the real Agent Argylle is something special, something they are not going to want to miss.
But you would have to be really inattentive to miss the reveal.

Spoilers for "Argylle" follow.
"Argylle" arrives in theaters this weekend (read our review here), delivering another action-packed spy movie from "Kingsman" franchise director Matthew Vaughn. Leading up to the film's release, there has already been some confusion surrounding the movie because of the source material that is said to have inspired the story.
You see, there's a novel on shelves also called "Argylle," released earlier this month, and it's written by author Elly Conway (not Taylor Swift). However, that also happens to be the name of the main character played by Bryce Dallas Howard in the movie "Argylle," where she's a spy novelist who ends up getting caught up in real-life intrigue and danger that mirrors the stories in her books. But when you seek out the details on the book in question, you'll see that the plot of the "Argylle" novel isn't the plot of the movie "Argylle." Here's...

L to R: Henry Cavill, Dua Lipa, and John Cena in Argylle, directed by Matthew Vaughn
It feels as though there are one, or two, films that want to “push” against the standard movie-releasing rules as January slowly (with those recent temps it feels like crawling) gives way to February. The big splashy noisy action blockbusters are supposed to be waiting in the wings for the warmer times, but since this is from “Marv maverick” Matthew Vaughn, of course it’s not going to adhere to anyone’s rules. The guiding force behind the Kingsman and King’S Man franchises (and a pivotal entry in the X_MEN multiverse) attempts to get another series going by mixing in a bit more comedy and even a touch of romance and fantasy as he hopes we will be swept up in the world of Argylle.
And just what does the title mean?...

In June of 1970, writer Richard Matheson published the short story "Button, Button." It would inspire a radically unique cinematic adaptation as well as several other official and unofficial retellings. One of its central themes is identity. The characters discover, to their horror, that they don't know themselves, let alone those around them.
That theme is a tenet of the spy genre, and it's no surprise why the genre continues to enjoy such rampant popularity despite the Cold War (arguably the most prolific period for espionage) three decades removed. It has become nearly inextricable from the action genre (thanks in large part to James Bond), and also directly addresses the blurring of reality and fiction where cinema excels. After all, what is spycraft but another form of acting? Furthermore, if someone is called upon to pretend to be someone else for a living, it...

It’s no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is struggling, both creatively and at the box office. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels proved to be disappointments last year, with the latter standing as the lowest-grossing film in the entire MCU, but Deadpool 3 may just be able to save them.
While speaking with BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Matthew Vaughn said that Deadpool 3 will provide a much-needed jolt to the MCU. “The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable,” Vaughn said. “That’s going to be the jolt… the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life… I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.

James Gunn is launching the new DC Universe with a brand-new Superman (not to mention a new Supergirl), which puts the final nail in the coffin of Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel… or does it? Fans are eager to find a way for Henry Cavill to return to the role and Argylle director Matthew Vaughn wonders if Superman: Red Son might be the perfect opportunity.
While speaking on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, Matthew Vaughn praised Superman: Red Son, the Elseworlds mini-series written by Mark Millar. “I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant because ignorance causes more issues, and I think the more we learn about Russia and the Russian history,” Vaughn said, before wondering what it would be like if Henry Cavill reprised his role for the project.

Sam Rockwell probably isn’t anyone’s idea of a suave secret agent, but that seems to be just the point for director Matthew Vaughn. He cast the Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Oscar winner against type and let him rip with a witty, eminently watchable performance that lets him steal every scene he is in.
If only the movie, Argylle, were a star vehicle for him in the same way that, say, Hitchcock’s North by Northwest was for Cary Grant in its day, this pseudo spy thriller might have been a classic. But unfortunately too much of it, especially the final half hour of this two-hour-plus frenetic action picture, just throws it all against the wall to see what sticks. For the past decade, "Kick-Ass" and "X-Men: First Class" director Matthew Vaughn has been entrenched in the world of high-class spies, thanks to the "Kingsman" franchise. Though "Argylle" keeps the filmmaker firmly in the spy action genre, the film offers Vaughn the chance to venture into somewhat different territory thanks to the movie's many twists and turns, including a couple of showstopping action sequences, the likes of which you've never seen on the big screen before. But we're getting ahead of ourselves.
On the surface, "Argylle" takes cues from movies like 1984's "Romancing the Stone" and the more recent "The Lost City," each featuring stories where a female novelist becomes entrenched in exactly the kind of real action and adventure that she's only imagined in the pages of books. This time, it's Bryce Dallas Howard as Elly Conway, the author behind the successful, ongoing spy novel series "Argylle." Elly has...

What looks like diamonds but on closer inspection turns out to be little more than reams of cheap polyester? Why, argyle, of course — that preppy pattern found on socks and sweaters, and an apt name for the latest kooky spy caper from Matthew Vaughn. The erstwhile “Kick-Ass” director has been trapped in “Kingsman” mode for so long (going on a decade now) that it feels like we’ve lost him to that kind of live-action cartoon forever, cramming Gen Z James Bond riffs with disco music and outrageous greenscreen shenanigans.
“Argylle” boasts an entirely new set of characters, but sticks to Vaughn’s CG-exaggerated aesthetic as hacky spy novelist Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) gets pulled into a scheme nearly identical to the one she described in her bestselling series of books. She invented a character called Agent Argylle who’s uncovered a secret division of rogue agents, creatively named the Division.

Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle is a caper whose lack of charm prevents it from transcending the thinness of its high-concept premise. At the film’s heart is a frustrated novelist, Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), who discovers that the plots of her pulpy spy novels have inadvertently aligned with the real activities of a renegade organization led by the ruthless Ritter (Bryan Cranston). When Ritter orders Elly eliminated for threatening to expose his activities, the woman must rely on a competing spy, Aidan (Sam Rockwell), for protection.
With the anxiety-ridden, self-doubting Elly suddenly thrust into a life-or-death scenario, the film turns into a broad comedy, which Vaughn plays up with action scenes whose clear sense of movement is their only distinguishing qualities. The closest thing that he has to a visual stamp is an over-reliance on slow motion, stretching out every single stunt so that the viewer can study the grotesque,...

It’s often said that before even considering building a new franchise, one should prioritize the individual success of the first film. That was the case with the Kingsman saga, which only took off after confirming its commercial and financial triumph. Its creator, Matthew Vaughn, now decides to expand it into a cinematic universe – with the intention of eventual crossovers – by assembling a new trilogy, starting precisely with Argylle. Walking into the theater, expectations weren’t particularly high – online debates about Henry Cavill‘s (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) ridiculous haircut didn’t form a very positive environment – but there was a reasonable hope for a pleasant cinephilic morning.
Beyond the star-studded cast, I was aware of the intriguing narrative premise. Argylle tells the story of Elly Conway – portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World Dominion) – an author of a highly successful spy book series. However, when her fictional plots begin to...

Say what you will about “Kingsman” (I’m a fan), but Matthew Vaughn’s 2014 spy movie built to an undeniably gonzo climax that took hours of careful tone-setting to earn and a wild imagination to execute. A quick, spoilery refresher for those of you who don’t share my sophisticated appreciation for pure cinema: A computer chip — implanted into the flesh of the rich and powerful in order to save them from a global culling — suddenly backfires, triggering hundreds or thousands of spectacular deaths around the planet that peak with then-president Barack Obama’s head erupting off his body in a rainbow gas explosion of cartoon death. It’s the kind of denouement that helps make sense of the silliness that led up to it, and recontextualizes the movie’s irreverent pastiche as a necessary path towards pop absurdism.

When British producer-director Matthew Vaughn’s latest had its red-carpet premiere in London in mid-January 2024, the film made local headlines for reasons probably not intended by the filmmakers and their distributor, Universal. Alongside the usual PR-driven fluff about the sparkly frocks stars Dua Lipa and Bryce Dallas Howard were wearing, and the argyle-patterned evening gown sported by producer Claudia Schiffer (who is also Vaughn’s partner), there was much ado about Schiffer’s key accessory of the evening: a matching backpack with a round plastic window enclosing her cat Chip, a fetching gray Scottish Fold who also plays a major role in the film.
From where I was sitting, some distance from the stage, Chip looked grumpy and a little alarmed when taken out of the bag and shown off in front of the auditorium. Then again, that breed always looks a little grumpy. Nevertheless, there were soon outraged national media headlines,...

Things are bleak right now at the box office. January only had a few wide-release movies led by "The Beekeeper" and "Mean Girls" to help keep theaters afloat. There's been a significant downturn in ticket sales and the industry can ill-afford such things after the pandemic decimated theater owners. So, who is coming to the rescue? The hope is that it will be Matthew Vaughn with his latest spy flick, "Argylle." Whether or not audiences will turn up in a meaningful way for the original blockbuster remains to be seen.
The film hails from Apple Original Films and will eventually make its way to Apple TV+. Matthew Vaughn’s directing career is largely defined by R-rated action movies, from “Kick-Ass” to his three “Kingsman” entries, but the upcoming “Argylle” finds the English filmmaker playing in the PG-13 action sandbox for the first time since 2011’s “X-Men: First Class.” Not that he ever designed his potential “Argylle” franchise to be as bloody as the “Kingsman” films.
“These are movies that didn’t need to be an R, like ‘Kick-Ass’ needed to be,” Vaughn recently told Total Film magazine while discussing the film’s rating. “The rating should be a reflection of what the film is, not trying to make a movie for a rating.”

To celebrate the release of Argylle, the latest thrilling film from director Matthew Vaughn, we sat down with the filmmaker himself and some of his eclectic cast to find out more.
Chatting to Vaughn, we talk about the origins of the film, his exceptional choices when it comes to music and mic drops (there are some real doozies in this one), the biggest challenges when dealing with the spy thriller, casting, and why he wanted the film to feel like a throwback to the films he loved growing up in the 80s.
Next, we pick the brains of John Cena and Ariana DeBose and their excitement and easy “yes” when Vaughn called, why the spy genre is still so popular, the “escapism” factor of the film, 80s action films and whether they have what it takes to be a spy.
You can watch the full interviews below:
Argylle opens in UK cinemas on February 1st.
