‘#LookAtMe,’ Film Denied Exhibition in Singapore, Lands U.S. Distribution with Buffalo 8 (Exclusive)
Ken Kwek’s acclaimed Singaporean film “#LookAtMe” has secured North American distribution with Buffalo 8.
The deal is exclusive for the North American territory and non-exclusive for the rest of the world.
The film is a tragicomedy following the family of a teenage YouTuber who posts an irreverent video lampooning a megachurch pastor in defense of his gay twin brother. He is vilified by society and tried by a criminal justice system that tests his sanity and the bonds of his family.
This is Kwek’s second feature film after “Unlucky Plaza” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014. “#LookAtMe” won several awards on the festival circuit including prizes at New York Asian Film Festival, Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema, Montreal Independent Film Festival, LGBTQ+ Toronto Film Festival and San Francisco Queer Film Festival.

Originally announced way back in 2018, director Barry Andersson is turning the viral Creepypasta tale of the “Russian Sleep Experiment” into a horror movie, but it’s been radio silence on the project since that original report. Today, Screen Daily breaks the silence.
Screen Daily reports that “Los Angeles based production and distribution company Buffalo 8 has acquired worldwide rights” to the film, which is titled Soviet Sleep Experiment.
Soviet Sleep Experiment, based on the Creepypasta urban legend, tells the story of “Russian researchers who keep four patients awake using an experimental stimulant. When the experiment spirals out of control the subjects take matters into their own hands.”
The original Creepypasta tale had claimed that Soviet researchers had used an experimental stimulant back in the 1940s to keep five people awake for 15 consecutive days.
The cast for Soviet Sleep Experiment includes Eva De Dominici, Rafal Zawierucha, Chris Kattan, Evgeny Krutov, Michael Villar,...

Exclusive: Buffalo 8 has set a November 4 release date on Prime Video for James Hemings: Ghost In America’s Kitchen. The historical documentary follows the profound life of James Hemings, the first American to train as a chef in France, who at 8 years old was enslaved by Thomas Jefferson.
If you’ve ever eaten macaroni and cheese, French fries, crème brulée or ice cream you’ve enjoyed the contributions of Hemings, an older brother of Sally Hemings, who gave birth to six of Thomas Jefferson’s children. He also was a half-sibling of Jefferson’s wife Martha Jefferson, with whom he shared John Wayles as father.
When Jefferson was appointed Minister to France he selected, among others, Hemings to accompany him to Paris. There he trained to be a French chef and, in an era where enslaved people were purposefully kept illiterate, Chef Hemings learned to read, write and speak both English and French.
