Robert De Niro and Asa Butterfield form an unlikely friendship over eating food and going places in a new ad for Uber One.
The Oscar-winning actor joins the Sex Education star for the three-minute vignette, which was directed by David Shane. The ad, designed to grow Uber One’s U.K. subscribers, sees the two actors forming an unlikely friendship. It’s the latest celebrity Uber ad campaign, following commercials in the U.K. and U.S. for both its Uber Eats delivery service and separate membership service Uber One, featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Coolidge, Trevor Noah, Sarah Silverman and Nicholas Braun.
The ad begins with the duo on a set as Butterfield tries to connect with the veteran actor while the performing veteran quietly eats his Uber delivery. After a somewhat cringey, minute-long exchange of questions around whether De Niro eats and likes going places, The Irishman and Killers...

The Directors Guild of America has announced its nominations in its television categories, with several new series, including “Wednesday,” “Severance,” and “The Bear” receiving nominations alongside returning series such as “Ozark,” “Better Call Saul” and “The White Lotus”
At last year’s DGA television awards, “Succession” dominated the drama series category with all five of the nominees. This year, with that HBO series on hiatus, the nominees went to Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Vince Gilligan (“Better Call Saul”), Sam Levinson (“Euphoria”), and Aoiff McArdle and Ben Stiller for two separate episodes of “Severance.”
In the comedy series category, Tim Burton scored his first ever career DGA nomination, for “Wednesday.” Burton was joined by Bill Hader (“Barry”), Amy Sherman-Palladino (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Christopher Storer (“The Bear”), and Mike White (“The White Lotus”).

Helena Bonham Carter, John Boyega and Matthew Macfadyen star in a set of new commercials for U.K. streaming platform Itvx, which is set to launch next month.
In the trio of ads each of the actors endures a cringe-worthy audition with a director (played by Ed Night) and producer (Jordan Castle). Bonham Carter is asked to impersonate a lemur eating a millipede, Boyega pretends to be driving a car à la “Fast and Furious 4” while Macfadyen is made to do some improv in the style of Ryan Gosling.
David Shane (“The Board”) directed the skits, which were created by Uncommon Creative Studio, through O Positive films.
Itvx is the new streaming service from U.K. broadcaster ITV, which is set to launch next month on Dec. 8. It will replace their current offering ITV Hub.

Exclusive: Amber Heard will now be the second witness for the defense as her team shifts tactics in the 50 million defamation trial with Johnny Depp.
The Aquaman star had been set as the opening witness in the defense case, as Deadline exclusively revealed last week. However, as is not unusual in such trials, events have pushed a shift in approach. After the testimony of forensic psychologist Dr. Shannon Curry on behalf of Depp on April 26, Heard’s legal team led by Elaine Bredehoft and Ben Rottenborn have decided to put clinical and forensic psychologist Dr. Dawn Hughes on the stand in Fairfax County, Va first on Tuesday.
Heard is now scheduled to follow Hughes’ testimony in the defense’s case this week, we heard. Reps for Heard had no comment on the schedule change when contacted by Deadline today.

We don’t know yet which commercial will win the Super Bowl ad wars on Sunday, but Cadillac’s “Edward Scissorhands” sequel — starring Timothée Chalamet as Edgar Scissorhands, Edward’s son, and Winona Ryder reprising her role as Kim from Tim Burton’s 1990 movie — is an excellent bet. The ad, for the Cadillac Lyriq, will air in the game’s fourth quarter as part of General Motors’ larger star-studded push for its new electric cars.
That Ryder’s Kim is Edgar’s mom, and that Edgar has inherited his father’s scissorhands, neatly sidesteps the absence of Johnny Depp, who starred as Edward in the movie. Depp was recently ousted from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise after losing a libel case a British tabloid that alleged he is a “wife beater.”
“This is the story of a boy with scissors for hands,” Ryder’s Kim says in voiceover. “No, not that one.

Comedy series creators dominate this year’s roster of Directors Guild of America TV awards nominees. Donald Glover is contending for an episode in the sophomore season of “Atlanta,” which also reaped a bid for Hiro Murai. Both Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Daniel Palladino vie for installments in the second edition of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” And Bill Hader is nominated for the pilot of “Barry.”
Among the TV drama helmers is Adam McKay for an episode of “Succession.” He could well be a nominee for his film “Vice” as well. He contends here against “Ozark” star Jason Bateman, long-time “Homeland” helmer Lesli Linka Glatter, Chris Long for “The Americans” series finale and Daina Reid for a second season episode of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
On the telefilm/limited series side, Barry Levinson made it a lucky 13 DGA nominations with his bid for “Paterno.” He faces off against Cary Joji Fukunaga...

The Director’s Guild of America gave its stamp of approval to a number of actors-turned-directors Monday afternoon, nominating a slew of famous faces for its 2019 DGA Awards.
Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), Bill Hader (“Barry”), Sacha Baron Cohen (“Who Is America?”), and Ben Stiller (“Escape at Dannemora”) all landed their first DGA nominations, while Donald Glover (“Atlanta”) scored his second nomination for the series.
“Atlanta” was one of a few projects scoring multiple nominations, as Hiro Murai was also selected for his work on “Teddy Perkins” (IndieWire’s pick for the best TV episode of 2019). Daniel Palladino and Amy Sherman-Palladino were both nominated for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and three directors were honored from “A Series of Unfortunate Events”: Barry Sonnenfeld, Bo Welch, and Allan Arkush were all chosen in the Children’s Programs category.

Sarah Scott, an actress who’s appeared in such shows as “True Blood” and “Castle,” has accused actor Kip Pardue of placing her hand on his penis while filming a sex scene and then masturbating in front of her after it was done. She alleges that the latter incident took place in his dressing room just after they had shot a sequence for “Mogulettes,” a television pilot, in May.
“I literally froze,” the 35-year-old told the Los Angeles Times. “I said, ‘What are you doing?’”
His response, according to Scott: “This isn’t a #MeToo thing. I’m not your employer. It’s not like I can fire you.”
Pardue, best known for his roles in “Remember the Titans,” “The Rules of Attraction,” and Hulu’s Marvel show “The Runaways,” acknowledges that he placed Scott’s hand on his penis but denies her other accusations.
“I clearly misread the situation...

Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh has dismissed its chief spokesperson David Shane several months after he shifted from his position as Evp of corporate communications to a consultant role at the studio, TheWrap has learned. For four years, Shane had arguably one of the toughest jobs in Hollywood — spinning news to make Relativity look good in the press even as Kavanaugh drove the spiraling company into bankruptcy. Shane effectively served as Kavanaugh’s loyal mouthpiece and was well-compensated for his troubles. With Relativity glimpsing a light at the end of its Chapter 11 tunnel, it’s possible the company was prepared to move.
