UK outfit Bankside has boarded world sales on Brides, the debut feature from acclaimed theatre director and Screen Star of Tomorrow 2023 Nadia Fall, as production wraps.
The film, which shot in Wales, Turkey and Italy, stars newcomer Ebada Hassan and Layla’s Safiyya Ingar as two teenage girls in 2015, in search of freedom, friendship and belonging, who run away from their troubled lives in a seaside town with a misguided plan of travelling to Syria.

I Am Not A Witch director Rungano Nyoni has been awarded the UK’s Wellcome Screenwriting Fellowship at an event in London.
The award, given in partnership with the BFI and Film4, is worth $38,000 and is designed to help the recipient explore screenwriting subjects involving science, health and the human condition. The Wellcome Collection, a medical and cultural institution in London, also makes its resources, research and facilities available to the recipient.
The Welsh-Zambian writer and director’s debut feature I Am Not a Witch premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, and Nyoni went on to win the BAFTA award for Outstanding Debut for a British Writer, Director or Producer. Film4 and BFI were among the film’s backers.

The project is being produced by Tempesta Films’ Carlo Cresto-Dina, Cowboy Films’ Charles Steel and Samson Films’ David Collins.
The film follows two sisters who grew up on the fractious Irish border. When one of them, who has been missing, finally returns home, the intense bond with her sister is reignited. Together they unearth their mother’s past but uncovered secrets and resentments which have been buried deep threaten to overwhelm them.

Screen can reveal a first look at Mari, the Film London Microwave feature starring acclaimed dancer Bobbi Jene Smith.
The project, which recently wrapped its shoot in Sherborne, Dorset and London, is the debut feature from writer-director Georgia Parris and producer Emma Duffy.
It was commissioned through Film London’s Microwave scheme, the low-budget feature initiative which is backed by the BFI and BBC Films, with support from Creative Skillset. Further backing came from Intermission and Boudica Films.
