New Delhi, Aug 29 (Ians) India fast bowler Ishant Sharma has discussed the contrast in captaincy styles of Virat Kohli and M.S Dhoni and stated that the former wicketkeeper has groomed the bowlers by identifying their traits and handed them to his successor Kohli.
Dhoni, the two-time World Cup-winning skipper, served as the Test captain from 2008 to 2014 and led the limited-overs squads from 2007 to 2017.
Under Dhoni’s reign as captain, notable pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami made their debut.
Speaking to JioCinema, Ishant praised Kohli as an exceptional captain while also implying that, following the transition period under Dhoni, a fully developed bowling lineup was in place for him.
“He was the best. When Virat was captain, bowling was complete. When we were playing under Mahi bhai, we were in a transition phase. At that time, Shami and Umesh were new, and only I was there. Everyone else would rotate.

Players have butterflies in their tummies just before making their international debut. Former India pacer Ishant Sharma was nervous and scared well before his debut match for he had to travel alone to join the team in Ireland for an Odi series on an Sos call-up as many players were sick and unavailable.
Ishant, who had played only a few Ranji Trophy matches till then and was selected for the subsequent Test series against England, was leaving Indian shores for the first time and had to travel alone to England and then to Ireland. And to compound his problems, he lost his luggage and kit bag in transit.

New Delhi, May 12 (Ians) Time and again, it’s been the batting, which has let Delhi Capitals (DC) down in the ongoing Ipl 2023 and the David Warner led side will look to sort it out when they face a desperate Punjab Kings (Pbks) in the Match No 59 of the season at Arun Jaitley Stadium, here on Friday.

The Capitals are placed at the bottom of the table with eight points from 11 matches and even if they win their next three matches, it will only take them to 14 points, which might not be enough to earn them a place in the top four.

In the ongoing Ipl 2023, the likes of M.S. Dhoni, Ishant Sharma, Mohit Sharma, and Piyush Chawla have proved that experiences cannot be brought from the market and they still have that hunger and desire to learn, re-invent and make an impact for their respective teams.
Many of them were almost forgotten stars before the start of the Ipl 2023, but the veterans have defied age and expectations and rewound the clock with their impressive outings in the field.

It has been nearly four years since M.S. Dhoni retired from international cricket, but the 41-year-old continues to deliver for his team Chennai Super Kings in Ipl with both bat and captaincy.

Ahmedabad, May 3 (Ians) After suffering a close five-run loss against Delhi Capitals in an Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 match, Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya took the blame for the defeat, saying that he couldn’t get his rhythm and eventually was not able to finish the game.
Seasoned pacer Shami’s sensational four-fer helped Gujarat Titans restrict Delhi Capitals to 130/8 in 20 overs despite a fighting fifty from Aman Hakim Khan (51 off 44).
Apart from Shami, Mohit Sharma (2-33) and Rashid Khan (1-28) were the other wicket-takers for Titans while Axar Patel (27 off 30) and Ripal Patel (23 off 13) were the other main contributors with the bat after Aman.
In reply, Hardik Pandya scored a fighting unbeaten fifty (59 not out) but it was not enough as a fantastic collective bowling performance from the Delhi bowlers, led by Ishant Sharma (2/23), saw the away team restrict Gujarat Titans to 125/6 in 20 overs and win by five runs Match No.

Hyderabad, April 25 (Ians) Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Brian Lara has taken his batters to task for their failure to chase a target of 145 against Delhi Capitals. There was no devil in the pitch and they should have achieved the target, Lara said after the match.
In one of the worst possible chases of a target, Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to achieve a target of 145 against Delhi Capitals in Match 34 of India Premier League (Ipl) 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International here on Monday.
Though Srh bowlers had performed brilliantly to reduce Delhi Capitals to 62/5 before allowing them to reach 144/9, thanks to a run-a-ball 34 by Axar Patel and a 27-ball 34 by Manish Pandey.
Still, the target was achievable as the pitch was not offering much to the bowlers. But the Srh batters failed to maintain a good scoring rate, had a poor Power-play and despite a 39-ball 49 by opener Mayank Agarwal and some late-order...

New Delhi, April 25 (Ians) Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has questioned the utilisation of Umran Malik by Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh). He stated that if the team think tank doesn’t have enough belief in Malik’s bowling abilities, they would be better off adding a batter to the team.
Malik bowled only two overs in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Monday. He conceded 14 runs and went wicketless. The fast bowler picked up five wickets in six matches so far and hasn’t bowled his full quota of 4 overs in most of the games.
The capitals were struggling at 62/5. Then, Axar Patel struck a crucial run-a-ball 34 and with help from Manish Pandey (34 off 28) propelled DC to a below-par 144/9 in 20 overs.
“Srh are playing Umran Malik, but he bowled only two overs in the match against Delhi. Instead of him, they could have played a batter. If you don’t trust him as a bowler,...

Hyderabad, April 25 (Ians) The wheel of fortune is turning around for Delhi Capitals and the David Warner-led side put up an extremely disciplined bowling performance to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven runs in Match No. 34 of the Ipl 2023, here.
Defending a modest 144, DC restricted Srh to 137/6 on Monday night, thereby recording their second successive victory on the back of five straight defeats.
The spin duo of Axar Patel (2/21) and Kuldeep Yadav (1/22) were at their best once again while the veteran paceman Ishant Sharma put up an impressive show for the second game running, taking 1/18 in three overs.
Srh opener Mayank Agarwal had put his team in a position of strength, hitting 49, but got out trying to lift Patel out of the park. Hyderabad, April 25 (Ians) Brilliant all-round effort by Axar Patel helped Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad, for whom Washington Sunder was equally good with both bat and ball, in Match 34 of Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Monday.
Axar Patel came in to bat with Delhi Capitals struggling at 62/5 and struck a crucial run-a-ball 34 and with help from seasoned Manish Pandey (34 off 28) propelled Delhi Capitals to a below-par 144/9 in 20 overs after skipper David Warner had won the toss and elected to bat first.
Axar starred with the ball too as he claimed 2-21 in his four overs and along with fellow-spinner Kuldeep Yadav (1-22), Anrich Nortje (2-33) and Ishant Sharma (1-18) applied the screws on the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters in their chase of what looked like a below-par score. He claimed the crucial wickets of Mayank Agarwal and Aiden Markram as they dried up the runs in the middle overs.

Hyderabad, April 24 (Ians) Delhi Capitals came up with a brilliant bowling effort to squeeze out a 7-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, negating some brilliant late-order batting by Heinrich Klaasen and Washington Sundar in Match 34 of Ipl 2023 here on Monday.
It was a superb bowling effort by the Delhi Capitals bowlers as Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje and Ishant Sharma applied the squeeze as they throttled the Sunrisers Hyderabad innings in a low-scoring encounter.
Washington Sundar had claimed 3-28 and three batters were run-out as Delhi Capitals were restricted to 144/9 in 20 overs. Though it looked like they had fallen 20 runs short, in the end, it proved enough thanks to the brilliant effort put up by the DC bowlers.
After Mayank Agarwal (49) had maintained the Sunrisers’ chances with a crucial knock, Heinrich Klaasen and Sundar revived their chances after a middle-order wobble. Thanks to their efforts, Sunrisers Hyderabad needed 38 runs off...

New Delhi, April 3 (Ians) Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack will be under focus in a bid to bounce back in Ipl 2023 in the comfort of their home ground when they host Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.
The two teams have met only once in Ipl, during last year when Gujarat emerged victorious by 14 runs. Tuesday’s match is also the first time Gujarat will play an away match as part of the tournament returning to the home-and-away format.
Back to playing at their home base for the first time since 2019, Delhi will be itching to put up a much-improved show in all departments of the game after being underwhelming in a 50-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants in their tournament opener.
Their bowlers lacked the cutting edge with the ball, ground fielding was sloppy, and the batting line-up was blown away by Mark Wood’s raw pace.

With such frequent forced absences of cricketers, despite a workload management process being in place, addressing this challenge is indeed the need of the hour for the Bcci, for 2023 promises to be another year with an eye-watering cricketing schedule, including the Odi World Cup at home.
Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar have spent a huge chunk of time this year on the sidelines and rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (Nca) in Bengaluru. Chahar’s first injury of 2022 was a quadricep tear on his right leg that he suffered during the third T20 against the West Indies in Kolkata.
While recovering, Chahar picked up a back injury and was ruled out of the entire Ipl 2022 season. He finally resumed training from August and made competitive comeback during the ODIs against Zimbabwe. In October, a stiff back ruled Chahar out of the final two ODIs against South Africa and he was...

A confused Board, an even more out-of-sync coaching support staff, a selection committee which doesn’t know what to do (it has since been kicked out), an ageing lineup with 35-year-olds trying to keep pace with the dynamic changes in white ball cricket and, despite its availability, a diverse gene pool not being given adequate opportunities, and an ecosystem that encourages hyperbole covering up warts are responsible for the dismal state of affairs.
Innumerable experiments, chopping and changing players, keeping them on tenterhooks, have together accentuated this decline. Moreover, bowlers who are capable of delivering with the jagged edge of a katana and wakizashi, such as Kuldeep Yadav and Umran Malik, have been kept sheathed.
In this theatre of the absurd, also known as the strange world of Indian cricket, there is only disorder and chaos. In two successive T20 World Cups over two years all these failings have shown up.
