Ah, Big Brother. The true love-it-or-hate-it of television. Ever since it started in 2000, it's been one of the most divisive programmes ever to make it onto the box, so there was no real surprise at the outcry when the National Trust announced it would be opening it to the public for two days only. 'How could a British institution give such credence to Big Brother?' the cry went, with even Ann Widdecombe huffing about the horror of the news.
But is that really fair? Digital Spy obviously jumped at the chance to visit the house at last night's gala launch - attended by former housemates alternately gasping at how much of a "headspin" it was to be back (Charlie Travers) or grinning and bouncing with excitement about being able to press buttons they were banned from touching before (Callum Knell).

Sam Evans has won Big Brother 2013.
The Welshman beat rival Dexter Koh in tonight's final to be crowned this year's winner and take home £100,000 in prize money.
The pair - who clashed during their final couple of weeks in the house - went head-to-head in the grand final after the evictions of fifth-placed Charlie Travers, fourth-placed twins Jack and Joe Glenny and third-placed Gina Rio earlier in the evening.
Sam was the favourite with bookmakers going into tonight's (August 19) final, with Dexter following close behind.
Dexter was evicted to a mixed response from the waiting crowd and was welcomed by host Emma Willis.
Asked why the public kept him in until the final day, he told her: "I have no idea, I'd like to know!"
He added: "I'm just overwhelmed by the public's support because it feels like I am liked by people who haven't even met me."

Big Brother's Gina Rio has finished third in this year's final.
Her exit leaves rivals Sam Evans and Dexter Koh in contention to be crowned this year's winner and take home the £100,000 prize money.
She followed fifth-placed Charlie Travers and fourth-placed twins Jack and Joe Glenny out of the house in tonight's (August 19) live final.
Rio had long been favourite to win but a series of arguments in recent weeks with Travers and Hazel O'Sullivan saw her odds lengthen with bookmakers.
She exited the house to Lady Gaga's 'Beautiful, Dirty, Rich' and received a mixed reaction from the waiting crowd.
Asked how she felt about making it to the final, she told Emma Willis: "Fantastic, absolutely fantastic. No words can describe how I feel right now."
She said that she had changed during her time in the house, dismissing her title of the 'Most Spoilt Girl in Britain'.

Big Brother's Gina Rio is the favourite to win the series based on social media mentions.
The 24-year-old - who is also the favourite with bookmakers - has attracted nearly 75,000 mentions on social media ahead of Monday's (August 19) final.
Data taken from Virgin Media's The Hotlist reveals that Gina had received the highest number of positive mentions before her clash with Charlie Travers last week following family and friends nominations.
Since the argument, support for Gina on social media has become more mixed.
Sam Evans is the second favourite, with more social media users mentioning his name and the word 'win' together than for any other housemate.
Meanwhile, Sophie Lawrence and twins Jack and Joe Glenny have the fewest social media mentions and are seen as unlikely contenders for this year's crown.

Big Brother housemate Gina Rio's boyfriend has revealed plans to propose to her.
Rapper Ecksell has told the Daily Star that he has spent £100,000 on an engagement ring, and hopes to propose after she leaves the house.
He also dismissed claims that she only starts relationships with men to "rinse" them of their money, saying: "Money doesn't come into the equation."
Speaking about their relationship, he said: "For me Gina is ideal wife material. She knows that I've just been waiting for the right day to propose to her."

Five housemates are up for the chop this week including serial nominee Dexter Koh, Hazel O'Sullivan, Charlie Travers, Sophie Lawrence and twins Jack and Joe Glenny.

She has odds of 1/40 to face a grilling from host Emma Willis tonight.

Big Brother housemate Callum Knell has spoken about his dislike for fellow nominee Dexter Koh, with the comments to be aired in tonight's (August 1) episode at 10pm.
Talking to Big Brother in the Diary Room, Callum revealed that he expects "fireworks" to spark up between himself and Dexter.
He said: "The reason I am so strongly disliking Dexter is because when he pipes up on his opinions of the house and of me, he subtly puts me down.
"He uses little psychological words and tricks. Dexter sees me as competition and as an opponent that he can beat."
He added: "He is constantly chipping away. I am trying not to be beaten. I don't like him. There is going to be fireworks, a storm is brewing."
Meanwhile, several housemates have discussed the eventual prize money for the winner, and whether they would take the money if given the chance...

Big Brother's latest nomination results have been revealed and four housemates face the chop on Friday.
Callum Knell, Jack and Joe Glenny, Hazel O'Sullivan and (once again) Dexter Koh have been picked by their fellow housemates and will go head-to-head in the public vote.
The results were revealed via a surprise cruel twist from Big Brother, which involved the private nominations being screened in front of everybody.
Callum picked up the most nominations this week, collecting five votes.
However, Callum appears to be safe in the early betting with relatively long odds of 11/1.
Glamour model Hazel is the hot favourite for the axe with odds of 2/7. However, the twins aren't safe and can be backed at 5/2. Dexter is the longshot and looks likely to survive again with odds as large as 33/1 on him leaving.
Gina Rio remains the firm bookies' tip to win the series with odds now as short as 8/13 on her triumphing.

Callum Knell has opened up to Charlie Travers about his feelings for her in a discussion about the latest Big Brother nominations.
In a dramatic twist in Monday night's (July 29) show, the housemates were all shown each other's nominations on a big screen.
Callum was nominated for eviction with the most votes and will battle Dexter Koh, Hazel O'Sullivan and Jack and Joe Glenny in the public vote on Friday.
However, the sports coach currently appears more concerned by the revelation that Charlie voted for him.
"I'm surprised, not disappointed. Now I know how you feel," he told her.
"Tonight I learnt something which is the way you view me. You have lost in me your biggest fan in the house.
"You have lost someone who has fought your corner and would never ever let you down."

Jackie Travers spoke to Emma Willis this evening (July 19) following her eviction from Big Brother.
The 59-year-old had been up against Callum Knell, Dexter Koh, Gina Rio and twins Jack and Joe Glenny in a five-way vote.
Jackie told Willis that she'd had "such an amazing time" in the Big Brother house, but said that she would never have taken part in the show without her daughter.
"I'd have been too scared to do it without her", she explained.
Jackie went on to confess she had thought she would be evicted earlier, saying: "I thought I would go out first or second week."
When asked who she thought had nominated her, she told Willis she thought it was Gina and "possibly Callum" and "maybe Dexter".
After being played Diary Room footage of Gina's nomination, in which she was heavily criticised, she said: "I'm gobsmacked. I thought I was a considerate housemate.

Jackie Travers has been evicted from Big Brother.
The 59-year-old lost out in a five-way vote against Callum Knell, Dexter Koh, Gina Rio and twins Jack and Joe Glenny.
Prior to the eviction announcement, Emma Willis had revealed that Gina, Dexter and the twins were safe as they had received the fewest votes. Lines then reopened with just Callum and Jackie competing.
Daughter Charlie Travers was seen in tears as her mother departed.
Jackie had been Digital Spy readers' clear favourite to go, taking more votes than the other four housemates combined with 58%.
She is the fourth to be evicted this series, but the fifth to leave following the ejection of Daley Ojuederie for "threatening and aggressive" behaviour.

It has probably been the most talked-about week of Big Brother since it moved to Channel 5 thanks to the rather unpleasant activities between Daley and Hazel.
However, after a week of high drama, it's time to get down to business with another Friday night eviction.
Five housemates are up for the chop tonight (July 19) and it looks like it could be just as tight as last week's elimination, which saw Hazel survive over Wolfy by the thinnest of whiskers.
The fivesome facing the public vote are Callum Knell, Dexter Koh, Gina Rio, Jackie Travers and twins Jack and Joe Glenny.
Jackie is the hot favourite with bookmakers to get the chop with odds as short as 1/20.
However, Jack & Joe (14/1) and Callum (14/1) are by no means safe.
Gina (40/1) and Dexter (40/1) are relative long-shots for the axe.
Emma Willis hosts tonight's Big Brother live show from 9pm on Channel 5.

Big Brother housemates Dan Neal and Joe Glenny clashed yesterday (June 30) in a heated row in the bedroom.
The pair rowed after Joe took issue with comments Dan made to Hazel about her cigarettes.
Joe was clearly unhappy with the 33-year-old former policeman's comments.
Dan told him: "I don't want to make a big thing of it," while Joe told Dan that he was merely stating "the facts".
He warned: "Don't make me angry. I wasn't making a big deal, I was saying what the facts are, they're her fags. Deal with it."
The row escalated as both parties told each other that the issue was none of their business.
"Stay out of it, Joe, I wasn't talking to you," Dan said.
At that point, Joe lost his temper with his fellow housemate, saying; "Dan, please don't patronise me and don't speak down to me. Don't ever think you can...

The latest round of Big Brother nominations will take place today (June 24).

Dexter Koh has become the centre of discussion in the Big Brother house, with the other housemates developing the theory that he is swapping in and out of the show with an identical twin.
The departure of People's Puppet Michael has generated a large amount of paranoia within the group and the latest speculation surrounds Koh's real identity.
Jackie Travers and checkout twins Jack and Joe Glenny are leading the accusations about Koh's double life, believing that they saw someone pretending to be Dexter in the shower this morning.
"I was in the shower and I thought that was very odd. They're swapping. They might be swapping Dexter around with a twin brother," said Jackie.
"There was no way that was Dexter in the shower this morning."
Dexter appeared to enjoy being the centre of attention, smiling at the group's comments and declining the opportunity to end the housemates' paranoia.
