Exclusive: Paula Abdul is among an ensemble cast for a feature-length podcast from Steven Jay Rubin (Bleacher Bums), Billy Riback (Home Improvement) and stand-up comic Bruce Smirnoff.
The American Idol star is starring in Spacemen From Planet Judy alongside Phil Hendrie (Rick and Morty), Hal Rudnick (Reno 911), John Mariano (The Offer) and Eric Waddell (Funny You Should Ask).
It begins when all of Earth’s gay males, and two straight men dressed in drag because there was a mix-up in their Halloween costumes, are abducted to the distant planet Judy (named after Judy Garland), the gay haven world of the universe, where they will live in freedom without oppression.
Inadvertently kidnapped, bumbling information technology specialists Mitch (Hendrie) and Lenny (Rudnick) find themselves on an exotic world of constant partying, mingling and cuddling, all run by the Golden Ram Man (Mariano), a mad tyrant who abhors insubordination and seeded grapes.

Trent Reznor recently revealed that he “teared up” when listening to a Dua Lipa song. Now, the Nine Inch Nails frontman has identified the song in question: her 2020 hit, “Levitating.”
The original comment was made on Rick Rubin’s podcast, Tetragrammaton, when Reznor shared that he had reassessed his opinion that pop music “sucks generally” after he heard his daughter singing along to one of Lipa’s songs. “She is so into it and it is so cool,” he explained. “It really reminded me of the art of writing a well-crafted song — I teared up listening to a Dua Lipa track, because it was just a really well-done piece of music, you know?”
When an Instagram user commented on a Sterogum post that they needed to know “which Dua Lipa song made Trent fucking Reznor tear up,” Reznor himself replied to the comment, explaining that it was “Levitating,” off Lipa’s 2020 album,...

Don’t hold your breath for a new Nine Inch Nails in the near future. Trent Reznor discussed his relationship to music in a wide-ranging new interview with Rick Rubin, revealing that these days he’s more interested in composing film scores than he is writing and touring behind traditional albums.
Surviving as a working musician typically comes down to releasing an album, supporting it on tour for two years, and then repeating the cycle, something the 58-year-old father of five isn’t exactly keen to do. “I don’t want to be away from my kids,” Reznor explained. “I don’t want to miss their lives to go do a thing that I’m grateful to be able to do, and I’m appreciative that you’re here to see it, but I’ve done it a lot, you know?”
He realized this at the onset at the pandemic,...

Trent Reznor appeared as a recent guest on Rick Rubin’s podcast Tetragrammaton. Over the course of their two-hour conversation, the Nine Inch Nails mastermind spoke at length about his musical upbringing, songwriting process, and interest in film scoring.
“To me the hardest thing is the songwriting,” Reznor explained. “Having something to say, something to say with truth, that has reason to exist rather than just a thing.”
He’s even found that truth in his new-found appreciation for pop music, something he attributes to his children. “For while, I kept them in a kind of hermetically sealed way from pop music. Because I think it sucks generally — I had thought that.”
“And I heard my daughter, who’s six, singing Dua Lipa the other day,” Reznor recounted. “She is so into it and it is so cool. Like this is her music, you know, this is her thing… It...

Gerard Johnstone's "M3GAN" became an internet sensation after the trailer showed an android doll dancing in a hallway, but when critics finally saw the whole film they recognized it as much more than a meme. Gerard Johnstone's "M3GAN" is a smart and emotionally mature motion picture about a young person trying to avoid dealing with the realities of death by glomming onto high-tech robotics and artificial intelligence in the form of an automaton that, before long, goes on a killing spree and obliterating the annoying people that get in her way.
Yes, "M3GAN" has earned rave reviews for both its entertainment value and its narrative ambition. And that's all well and good for "M3GAN," but it was not the first film to match that extremely specific criteria, but critics — and the harsh realities of the studio system — weren't as kind to horror icon Wes Craven when he tried to...

Less than a month after Sacheen Littlefeather died, her two biological sisters are claiming in on-the-record interviews that the late actress and Native American activist wasn’t Native American at all.
In an explosive report published Saturday in the San Francisco Chronicle, Rosalind Cruz and Trudy Orlandi accused their late sister of being an ethnic fraud. For decades, Littlefeather claimed her father, Manuel Ybarra Cruz, was a White Mountain Apache and Yaqui Indian, but the sisters say their father’s family actually came from Mexico and that he was born in Oxnard, California, about an hour north of Los Angeles. Their mother, Gertrude Barnitz, was white.
In one of her final interviews, Littlefeather said of her Oscars rejection speech in 1973 that she “spoke my heart, not for me, myself, as an Indian woman but for we and us, for all Indian people … I had to speak the truth.”

French director Cédric Jimenez’s thriller November has drawn one million spectators in France in its first two weeks on release, bucking the trend of the country’s recent lackluster box office, co-producer and distributor Studiocanal has announced.
The fast-paced drama feature, which is inspired by the five-day manhunt for the perpetrators of the November 15 terror attacks in Paris, world premiered Out of Competition in Cannes in May.
Seven years on from the attacks, they remain a raw and sensitive memory in the French psyche. The film, however, focuses on the investigation and state of heightened tension in the aftermath, rather than the actual events of November 15.
Studiocanal said the film had exceeded one million admissions in France within 15 days, sitting at number one at the French box office since the theatrical release on October 5. This marks a new record for a Studiocanal film in France.
Jimenez has prior box office form at home,...
