Director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, is set to reach theatres on August 16th (you can watch the teaser Here), and we have previously seen a picture of a Xenomorph from the film – in fact, that’s the image featured above this paragraph. Now USA Today has shared another image of an Alien: Romulus Xenomorph, and you can check that one out at the bottom of this article. It has been said that Álvarez was dedicated to using practical effects on this film (we’ve even seen him playing with a remote controlled Facehugger), so it’s nice to see glimpses of these creatures that actually existed on the set.
When this project was announced near the start of 2022, it was said that Álvarez pitched the idea to Ridley Scott years ago and it stuck with Scott. So in late 2021, he called Álvarez and asked...

Warner Bros. Animation has produced multiple animated shows with their most popular character Batman as the protagonist. Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series was one of the defining shows based on the character that has a long-lasting legacy. The show starred Kevin Conroy as the Caped Crusader and was the beginning of the Dcau.
From 2004 to 2008, The Batman animated series aired as another show centered around Bruce Wayne’s exploits as Batman. The show was not part of th Timmverse and had to distinguish itself from the legendary shows of the Dcau. One way in which the producers of the show made it happen was by making Wayne’s diet include snacks and other relatable food that anyone would eat while in a hurry.

Since the moon that served as a setting for Alien and Aliens was known as Lv-426, April 26th – or 4/26 – is considered to be “Alien Day.” To celebrate the day, director Fede Álvarez – whose contribution to the franchise, the film Alien: Romulus, is set to reach theatres on August 16th (you can watch the teaser Here) – shared a behind-the-scenes video that shows him playing with one of the remote controlled Facehuggers that were built for his movie. Last month, 20th Century Studios unveiled a teaser trailer for Alien: Romulus, director Fede Álvarez’s contribution to the Alien franchise that is set to reach theatres on August 16th. (You can watch the teaser Here.) With the release date just four months away, Alien: Romulus received some love during the Disney panel at CinemaCon.
An exclusive extended scene from Alien: Romulus was screened a CinemaCon which followed Cailee Spaeny’s character wandering through a broken-down spaceship corridor with Aileen Wu’s character. They see a ripped-apart android among the debris. David Jonsson’s character, who is an android himself, is rebooting with an interesting effect in his eyes, but at that moment, a swarm of face-huggers burst into the room, chasing the characters out. We saw a bit of this scene in the teaser.

As the Dceu shrinks, contracts and blooms in unusual directions with Joaquin Phoenix, Robert Pattinson, Lady Gaga and Messrs. Gunn and Safran all playing their part, all eyes will soon be on the Matt Reeves Batman world for Colin Farrell’s The Penguin series.
We sat down with the actor to talk about another small screen sojourn, the AppleTV+ series Sugar, which hits the streaming service this week. It was our last question that moved the conversation DC-wards, and we asked him what we can expect from the new show.
“Oh…Tons of violence, abject darkness and a man and a great struggle to try and claw his way to the top.”
In our interview with the actor he talks about the team showrunner Lauren LeFranc has assembled, and how the series takes the fans deeper into the world created by Matt Reeves and The Batman team.

Masters of the Air is finally here and the fans of The Pacific and Band of Brothers are going crazy over the masterfully created World War II series. Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the Apple TV+ series revolves around the pilots of bomber planes in the 100th Bomb Group as they fight with everything they have to protect the world from Nazis. Based on a novel by Donald L. Miller titled Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, the series is adapted for television by John Shiban and John Orloff, it feels like the third entry in the World War II shows by Spielberg and Hanks. Masters of the Air is genuinely one of the best series I have seen in many years, check out my review of the complete series here.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ official trailer for the monster mashup Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire reveals new creatures, a new kingdom, and a mini Kong. Amidst the occasional clips of human characters, the nearly three-minute trailer shows off the titular creatures and teases the CG action in store when Godzilla and Kong stomp into theaters on April 12, 2024.
Rebecca Hall (Godzilla vs. Kong) stars as Dr. Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyree Henry (also Godzilla vs. Kong) is back as Bernie Hayes, Dan Stevens (Gaslit) is Trapper, and Kaylee Hottle (another Godzilla vs. Kong star) returns as Jia. The cast also includes Alex Ferns (The Batman) and Fala Chen (Irma Veep).

"The Batman" was a bonafide hit in 2021, introducing a whole new take on the Dark Knight that resembled a David Fincher-esque crime drama. The film was director Matt Reeves' gritty, noir-inspired take on the DC Comics superhero, and it mostly worked, even if its inspirations were often a little too overt. After all, "The Batman" was basically "Se7en" with capes. But there were some undeniably cool elements in movie. Case in point: the Batmobile.
Partly inspired by Stephen King's "Christine" and sporting a distinctly rugged look, the Batmobile of "The Batman" was the most beastly yet. Much like the Batsuit in the film, this muscle car Batmobile looked as though Bruce Wayne could have built it in his underground bunker by welding various parts together and fabricating his own hellish creation. As VFX Supervisor Anders Langlands told /Film:

In a new profile on Paul Dano published by The Guardian, his “The Batman” director Matt Reeves confirms they filmed “70 or 80 takes” of the Riddler and Batman’s final confrontation in the 2022 DC comic book tentpole. Dano starred as the film’s villain opposite Robert Pattinson. The film earned rave reviews (it was named the third best film of 2022 by Variety) and was a box office hit with $771 million worldwide. A sequel is set for release in 2025.
“Paul loves doing a lot of takes, as do I,” Reeves said. “We took two days on the final scene between him and Robert Pattinson as Batman. We must have easily done 70 or 80 takes. Paul loves exploring. He’s obsessive that way.”
“There were all these moments as the Riddler where he’d be tickled by something and then fly into a rage. You never knew from take to take where that switch would come,...

It's been more than a year since Robert Pattinson's emo Caped Crusader arrived in "The Batman." Director Matt Reeves' noirish take on the Dark Knight might not have had quite the cultural impact of, say, "The Dark Knight," but it did manage to become a box office hit during a troubling time for the industry. Furthermore, there were certainly memorable moments, such as Pattinson's anti-hero mercilessly beating a helpless thug into oblivion before delivering uttering, "I'm vengeance." We also have Colin Farrell's Penguin telling Batman, "Take it easy, sweetheart!" and being fluent in Spanish.
John Turturro's Carmine Falcone, however, was not quite so meme-worthy. However, some here at /Film have argued that Turturro's crime lord is the secret weapon of "The Batman," and he certainly has an integral part in the narrative. As the movie plays out, we learn the shocking truth: that the crime boss who...

It almost feels like kicking a dead horse at this point, but it is absolutely no secret that "The Flash" was a big bomb. Were it not for "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" facing down becoming Disney's biggest flop since "John Carter," it would be uncontested as the summer's biggest loser. Again, I'm not trying to be mean here, but the realities are what they are. As the Scarlet Speedster's first live-action solo film lets out its last gasps of life in theaters, it has actually managed to pass a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie at the box office. But it's just one and has no shot at passing any others, serving to illustrate just how poorly DC's latest performed.
Per The Numbers, after adding less than $6,000 domestically on Tuesday along with a $68,653 eighth weekend, "The Flash" has now earned $268.1 million globally against a huge $200 million production budget, which does not account for marketing.

Filming for Matt Reeves’s The Batman Part II is delayed due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. While the AMPTP drags its feet on negotiating with writers for issues including fair pay, filming for The Batman Part II will take place next year instead of later this year in London. While the delay is unfortunate, better conditions and terms for the individuals who craft Hollywood’s stories are overdue. One of the reasons The Batman Part II will be delayed is because the film’s director, Matt Reeves, is also writing the sequel alongside Mattson Tomlin. Both creatives are involved in the strike, showing solidarity with their fellow writers and filmmakers.
Midgard Times says cameras will roll on The Batman Part II in March 2024. Thankfully, the delay should not affect the sequel’s release date of October 3, 2025.

There seems to be a governing principle that human history moves in cycles. If you need proof, just look around at the happenings of the past few years and see how comparable they are to highly similar events that occurred during the 20th century.
Or, if you want a smaller, more immediate example, check this out: "Air," a movie about the creation of Nike's popular "Air Jordan" line of footwear, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, and it both stars and is directed by Ben Affleck. Affleck portrays Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming DC Universe movie, "The Flash." Also starring in that movie is Michael Keaton, who portrays, well, another universe's Bruce Wayne/The Batman. Keaton was famously the first actor to play the role in multiple feature films: 1989's "Batman" and 1992's "Batman Returns."
What connects all of these disparate facts? Why, Bat-Boots, of course. In 1989, Nike...

Even two decades after their release, the original "X-Men" movies remain gems of the superhero genre. They are bold, ambitious, unique movies -- the first two anyway -- with exquisite casting and poignant stories of bigotry and tolerance. They also gave us Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Ian McKellen in tremendous roles that have defined their respective characters, delivering a grounded look that, for better or worse, established a certain superhero style that still resonates to this very day.
After the success of "X-Men" in 2000, "X2: X-Men United" went even bigger and better, with louder action set pieces, more mutants, and a classic story of old enemies banding together to face one hell of a villain.
Perhaps no aspect of this movie feels more miraculous in 2023 than the character of William Stryker, the main antagonist of the film. Aside from having Logan Roy from "Succession" as the bad guy, the...

All Quiet on the Western Front made good on its record number of BAFTA nominations with a major haul of wins at the film awards ceremony on Sunday night.
At London’s Royal Festival Hall, Netflix’s German anti-war epic took the BAFTAs for best film, alongside best adapted screenplay and best director, and hoovered up most of the craft honors for a total of seven gongs (a BAFTA record for a film not in the English language).
Away from the Western Front, Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin won four awards, including half the performance honors, with Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan landing supporting wins. Elsewhere, Austin Butler won leading actor for Elvis, and Cate Blanchett leading actress for Tar.

The motion picture academy made it a little easier in 2021 to predict the winners by combining Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing into one category: Best Sound. Both sound mixers and sound editors are recognized in the combined category. Up to six statuettes will be awarded to one production sound mixer, two supervising sound editors and three re-recording mixers. The inaugural winner of Best Sound was, appropriately enough “Sound of Metal.” Last year, this prize went to “Dune.”
The sound branch determines the nominees in two stages. First, members of the branch cast preferential ballots with the top 10 vote-getters, announced on December 21, moving on to the second stage. Members who attend screenings of excerpts from these 10 semi-finalists or attest that they have seen them cast preferential ballots and the top five films are nominated.
It can be difficult to differentiate the sound mixing of a film from the sound editing.

Suffice it to say that Avatar: The Way of Water commanded the Visual Effects Society’s attention. James Cameron box office-smash sequel scored a record 14 nominations for the 2023 Ves Awards, which were announced today.
Helped by three noms in the Emerging Technology category, Disney’s The Way of Water topped the single-year noms haul by Disney+’s The Mandalorian in 2021. It also shattered the old high-water mark for films, set by — no big surprise here — the original Avatar, which amassed 11 noms in 2010.

HBO Max’s The Batman prequel series has found its showrunner.
The series, which is about Arkham Asylum, will be overseen by The Staircase creator Antonio Campos, who will serve as showrunner-executive producer and also will direct on the series, Deadline has confirmed.
Initially, the series, executive produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves, was to center on the inner workings of the Gotham Police Department. Barton exited when the focus shifted to the Arkham Asylum storyline.
Terence Winter was initially involved in the first The Batman series, when it was initially announced in July 2020 with a series commitment. Then came Giri/Haji creator Joe Barton, who replaced Terence Winter.
Campos will now run the series with a new direction.
The Batman series comes from Reeves’ 6th & Idaho in association with Warner Bros. Television. Reeves, Barton and The Batman producer Dylan Clark are executive producers, alongside 6th & Idaho’s Daniel Pipski and Adam Kassan.

Despite his unique mastery of the form from a young age, Steven Spielberg has never been a particularly mysterious filmmaker. His success stories have been well-documented, from his early maverick successes like "Jaws" to his innovative blockbusters like "Jurassic Park." One other crucial ingredient to his filmmaking that Spielberg takes with him, no matter the scale, is a strong sense of identity.
Littered throughout his filmography are glimpses into his childhood psychology. "Close Encounters" and "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" find domestic drama within the framework of their alien sci-fi tales. Beneath the surface of his blockbusters are stories of fathers with fear of commitment, and sons looking for their place in a larger world without traditional guidance. But in Spielberg's newest, semi-autobiographical film, "The Fabelmans," the sentimentalist filmmaker will bare his soul in a way even he has never attempted before. "This film is, for me, a way of bringing my mom and dad back,...

A lot of weird stuff has happened since the start of the pandemic, and studios are already working like clockwork to crank out film adaptations of that weirdness. In one of the most high-profile ventures, "Dumb Money" looks to tell the story of that time in 2021 when a bunch of Reddit investors broke the stock market by causing the stocks in GameStop, a barely surviving company, to skyrocket. Earlier this year, a documentary about the situation called "GameStop: Rise of the Players" became available to watch on Hulu, but this will be the first live-action retelling.
The story is based on the book "The Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to Its Knees" by Ben Mezrich. The screenplay was adapted by Rebecca Angelo & Lauren Schuker Blum, and the film will be directed by the current king of ripped-from-the-headlines adaptations,...

Black Bear Pictures announced today that Seth Rogen (The Fabelmans), Paul Dano (The Batman), Sebastian Stan (Pam & Tommy), and Pete Davidson (Bupkis) have joined the cast of Dumb Money, the GameStop movie directed by Craig Gillespie.
Based on Ben Mezrich’s The Antisocial Network and scripted by Rebecca Angelo & Lauren Schuker Blum, Dumb Money will tell “the story of fortunes won and lost overnight in the David-vs.-Goliath GameStop short squeeze that may have ended up changing Wall Street forever.” The GameStop movie will offer a “gripping portrayal of how a loosely affiliated group of private investors and internet trolls on a subreddit called WallStreetBets took down one of the biggest hedge funds on Wall Street, firing the first shot in a revolution that threatened to upend the establishment.” Production will begin this October, with Black Bear International handling the foreign distribution rights and launch sales at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

While directing the documentary “Good Night Oppy,” which recalls the 15-year journey of the Mars rover Opportunity, Ryan White interviewed NASA scientists, dug through exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, and worked with Industrial Light & Magic to recreate the robot’s journey. But highlight of the whole experience were the notes he got from one of the film’s producers.
His name was Steven Spielberg.
“It was crazy,” White said in a recent interview with IndieWire over Zoom. “Not to take anything away from other producers, but Spielberg’s notes were one of a kind. They were so incisive.” The veteran filmmaker’s involvement with the project came through his company Amblin, which set up the project with production company Film 45 and secured NASA’s commitment prior to White’s signing on. “Spielberg’s name played a huge role in getting NASA onboard,” White said. “They’re pretty protective.”
