Paramount+ today debuted the official trailer and key art for season two of the original animated series Transformers: EarthSpark. The first nine episodes of the second season will premiere on Friday, June 7, exclusively on Paramount in the U.S. and Canada, and on June 8 in the U.K., Australia, and Italy, with additional territories to be announced at a later date.
Transformers: EarthSpark introduces a new generation of Transformers robots – the first to be born on Earth – and together with the humans who welcome them and care for them, they’ll redefine what it means to be a family. Limitless power will be at the fingertips of whoever holds the artifact… Amidst the chaos, Robby meets someone special; Mo uncovers an ancient secret in Witwicky, and the Terrans level up.

I was fortunate enough to be able to sit down with star Jaeden Martell and director John Lee Hancock and pick their brain a bit about Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. I was able to see the film myself (Check out the review here) and I absolutely loved it. As a big fan of coming-of-age films, this was a great watch and made me very excited to talk to these two.
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone synopsis:
When Craig, a young boy living in a small town (Jaeden Martell) befriends Mr. Harrigan, an older, reclusive billionaire (Donald Sutherland), the two begin to form an unlikely bond over their love of books and reading. But when Mr. Harrigan sadly passes away, Craig discovers that not everything is dead and gone and strangely finds himself able to communicate with his friend from the grave through the iPhone in this supernatural coming-of-age story that shows that certain connections are never lost.

Plot: A young boy (Martell) befriends an older, reclusive billionaire (Sutherland) and finds himself able to communicate with him from the grave via the iPhone that was buried with him upon his passing.
Review: Anytime the words “Stephen King Adaptation” appear, I can’t help but be intrigued. Mr. Harrigan’s Phone also comes with the caveat of having wonderful performances and a gripping story. Which shouldn’t come as a surprise because King’s work always attracts top-tier talent. Even still, it’s hard not to be charmed by this coming-of-age tale with a supernatural twist. Especially when it’s done so well.
Jaeden Martell does a fantastic job as Craig, who is a decidedly more complicated person than the white knight he played as Bill Denbrough in It. But it’s hard not to compare the two characters, especially with their shared timidity. But what makes Craig so...

Located halfway between the coming-of-age nostalgia of “Stand by Me” and the horror content of … well, nearly every other Stephen King-derived movie, “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” ends up too mild on either count to make a memorable impression. Still, John Lee Hancock’s adaptation of the same-named novella (which led off King’s 2020 collection “If It Bleeds”) handles the rather thin source material adeptly enough to make for an entertaining middleweight drama tinged with the supernatural. It premieres on Netflix Oct. 5, getting Halloween month off to a moderately creepy start.
Craig (Colin O’Brien) is still a child when his mother dies of cancer in 2003, leaving him alone in his Maine small town with an equally bereft father (Joe Tippett). Bloody Disgusting’s review of Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is spoiler-free.
Stephen King’s work captures sentimentality and the minutia of small-town life well, effectively building the horror from the nostalgic and mundane. In Netflix‘s adaptation of Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, a novella from 2020’s If It Bleeds, a quaint coming-of-age story gets blended with the dangerous pitfalls of technology. The focus on the former and an emphasis on the details over the story or scares make for an uneven though frequently poignant journey.
Reclusive billionaire Mr. Harrigan (Donald Sutherland) hires a young boy, Craig (Jaeden Martell), to read to him a few times a week. Mr. Harrigan’s ruthless business practices in his younger years left him without friends, and his elder age means his eyesight isn’t what it once was. The pair form an unlikely bond that begins with a shared love of books that only deepens over the years.

In the latest film adaptation of one of his works, Stephen King again demonstrates his uncanny knack for deriving tension from the unlikeliest sources. In this case, it’s technology, specifically cell phones, one of which proves an instrument of communication between the living and the dead. Unfortunately, despite its intriguing premise, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone lacks the necessary ingredient to make it truly memorable; it simply isn’t very scary.
Based on a novella from King’s 2020 collection If It Bleeds, the film, premiering on Netflix, takes place in the sort of seemingly idyllic, small New England town that has provided the backdrop for so many of his works. In the prologue set in 2003, we’re introduced to the young boy Craig (Colin O’Brien), who is left to be raised alone by his loving, working-class father (Joe Tippett) after his mother dies.

Mark Polish, the less prolific filmmaking twin of Michael Polish, has little nice to say about today’s youngsters in Murmur, which aims to be a Blair Witch for digital natives. Throwing a half-dozen annoying social-media producers into the forest with only their cell phones and a deeply dubious game they won’t stop playing, it might’ve looked like a cautionary fable if only it maintained any sort of distance from its protagonists. Instead, it’s wholly on board for screens-based storytelling and TikTok attention spans, the result being that most viewers not addicted to such stuff will find it insufferable from its first moments. Even setting such opinions aside, its value as an unscary horror pic is next to nil, and as screens-based mayhem goes, it ranks far below peers like Spree.

The Stephen King adaptation renaissance is showing no signs of slowing down, in large part thanks to Netflix, which has recently brought three of the author's short stories to our screens. Joining the streamer's library alongside Mike Flanagan's "Gerald's Game," Zak Hilditch's "1922," and Vincenzo Natali's "In The Tall Grass," Netflix has finally released a trailer for the upcoming film, "Mr. Harrigan's Phone," another movie based on a chilling story from the famed horror writer. This time around, the supernatural is clashing with one of the scariest concepts of all: growing up. The film comes from writer-director John Lee Hancock and stars Jaeden Martell and Donald Sutherland in the lead roles.
Coming-of-age drama takes center stage in this story about Craig (Martell), a teenage boy befriending a reclusive billionaire (Sutherland as the titular Mr. Harrigan). They form a bond so strong that not even death can split them...

"My Grandma always used to say: a person shouldn't call out unless they want an answer." Netflix has revealed the first trailer for Mr. Harrigan's Phone, another creepy, mysterious Stephen King adaptation from the streamer. Remember how good Gerald's Game was? Sounds like just the right treat for this year's Halloween season. A boy and an aging billionaire bond over books — and their first iPhones. When the man passes, their mysterious connection refuses to die as the two continue to communicate through the iPhone. From Ryan Murphy, Blumhouse Film and Stephen King comes a supernatural coming-of-age story, starring Donald Sutherland and Jaeden Martell. The supporting cast also includes Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Joe Tippett, Colin O’Brien, Cyrus Arnold, Thomas Francis Murphy, & Peggy J. Scott. This looks dang good!! I dig the use of the phone vibration sound as part of the score in the trailer - nice work, Netflix. ›››

The official trailer for Netflix’s Mr. Harrigan’s Phone warns that some connections never die and that you shouldn’t call out unless you want an answer. The trailer reveals that the bond between a bullied teenager and an elderly gentleman doesn’t end once the old man passes away. As for the warning not to call out…well, the old guy apparently wasn’t the nicest man in town before he died.
The cast is led by Jaeden Martell as Craig and Donald Sutherland (The Undoing) as the titular character. Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Joe Tippett, Colin O’Brien, Cyrus Arnold, Thomas Francis Murphy, and Peggy J. Scott also star.
Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is based on a short story by Stephen King. John Lee Hancock adapted King’s work and directed the 2022 horror film. Ryan Murphy, Jason Blum, and Carla Hacken serve as producers.
Netflix has set a Wednesday, October 5, 2022 premiere date.

Netflix has released the first photos from Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, a 2022 film based on a short story by Stephen King. Adapted and directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), Mr. Harrigan’s Phone stars Donald Sutherland as Harrigan and Jaeden Martell as a young man who befriends the elderly Hannigan.
While most, but definitely not all, of Stephen King’s work scares the hell out of readers, Hancock describes this particular story as more of a cautionary fairy tale.
“More than anything, it’s about an odd relationship between a billionaire in his 80s and a [young man] and the bonds of friendship, and how far will you go for a friend?” writer/director Hancock said in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “Do you like Shawshank Redemption, do you like Stand By Me,...

From the 1976 adaptation of "Carrie" to 2017's "It," Stephen King's books have always shown great potential for a successful movie. Netflix has seemed aware of this fact ever since they started making original content; they released a film adaptation of King's claustrophobic novel "Gerald's Game" in 2017, and it was just as disturbing as the trailers promised.
At the same time, it's also become clear over the years that novellas and short stories, perhaps more so than full-length novels, make for great films. "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Mist" were both novellas, and they ended up making for the most critically acclaimed King movies ever made. King's shorter works often give directors far more room to breathe. With that in mind,...

Netflix hasn’t announced exactly when they’re going to release the Stephen King adaptation Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, we just know it’s coming to the streaming service sometime this year. The movie has just taken a big step toward getting sent out into the world, though. It has been screened for the ratings board at the Motion Picture Association and earned its rating. Mr. Harrigan’s Phone has been rated PG-13 for thematic material, some strong language, violent content and brief drug material. The movie has also been screened for King, who took to Twitter to share his opinion that it is “nothing short of brilliant”.

Exclusive: HBO Max has rounded out its cast of series regulars for comedy pilot Wild Life, which is fronted by Izabella Alvarez in the role of Ciara.
The cast includes Nadine Velazquez (Queens), Annie Funke (The Offer), Nabeel Muscatwalla (Good Trouble), Ava Lalezardeh (The Pursuit), Brielle Barbusca (Young Sheldon), Cyrus Arnold (Diary of a Wimpy Kid), Jessi Case (Mother’s Day), Chrystal Campbell, and Beau Minnier.
From writers and executive producers Jason Ubaldi, Chris Peterson, and Bryan Moore, Wild Life follows a diverse group of high school teens who are struggling with personal and social issues who spend their school hours working at the local animal rescue as part of an alternative educational program.
While comedy comes from their quirky offbeat personalities and the unique setting of “high school at the animal rescue,” the series also will have heart as working with animals helps them deal with their personal issues with friends and at home.

A Christmas movie set in the eighties with a story centered around a child that is desperate to a Nintendo Entertainment System (Nes for short) as his main present?! 8-Bit Christmas is one of those movies that seems made for me (and I’m sure many other people of a similar age). In fact it could almost be written about me too – again, I’m sure there’s plenty of people that feel the same! Getting past the nostalgia though, can this movie remain entertaining.
The story is told through Neil Patrick Harris, as Jake, as an adult in modern day. He introduces his daughter to the Nes and then tells her the story of how he got it.

"I needed a Christmas miracle." Warner Bros has debuted an official trailer for 8-Bit Christmas, a new holiday comedy from filmmaker Michael Dowse. Described as a "new holiday classic", this nostalgic family comedy takes us to the early days of Nintendo, when one boy wanted nothing else than to get the brand new Nes entertainment system for Christmas. A humorous and heartfelt look back at the adventures of childhood. Set in suburban Chicago in the late 1980s, the story centers on ten-year-old Jake Doyle's herculean quest to get the latest and greatest video game system for Christmas. Starring Winslow Fegley as a young Jake, and Neil Patrick Harris as an adult Jake, with June Diane Raphael, Steve Zahn, David Cross, Sophia Reid-Gantzert, Cyrus Arnold, Jacob Laval, and David MacInnis. I’ve been a huge fan of writer/director Kyle Rankin’s work ever since I first saw Infestation. His blend of comedy and horror really appealed to my sensibilities. Which means I’m always excited to see what he does next. However all his previous efforts never prepared me for Run Hide Fight… Gone are the laughs and in comes a shockingly real look at school shootings, from inside the building.
A normal school day is brought to a brutal halt when invaded by armed students on a murderous mission. As the shooting starts and the blood starts to flow, Zoe (Isabel May) is lucky to get out alive. But then she heads back inside...

Ahead of FrightFest’s UK premiere of Run Hide Fight at the Glasgow Film Festival, director Kyle Rankin talks about the personal tragedy that inspired the film, the influence of 70s cinema and the huge importance of film festivals.
Run Hide Fight was inspired by a tragic incident in your own past so did that make it a harder script to write?
In 1999, my best friend and fellow filmmaker, Shayne Worcester, was gunned down during a mugging in San Francisco. It came to light years later that the event was a gang initiation — meaning guys who wanted to be part of a gang were tasked with going out and killing a random civilian that night. He was only 29.
I think about him all the time, so I wouldn’t say that writing Run Hide Fight was harder…it was instead maybe cathartic.
Add to that the fact that my producer,...

If “‘Elephant’ meets ‘The Hunger Games'” is your idea of an enticing elevator pitch, you’re unlikely to be disappointed by “Run Hide Fight,” though you might want to take a long hard look at your enthusiasm. Kyle Rankin’s fictitious school-shooting thriller echoes multiple previous films in its evocation of post-Columbine classroom terror, before dubiously distinguishing itself by assuming the perspective of one female student tough enough to fight back. Merely pedestrian at the levels of direction, craft and performance, the film instead makes a grab for attention by peddling an ambiguous line on gun control and eye-for-an-eye morality. Any controversy that ensues, however, won’t disguise the phoniness of this exploitation exercise, which milks the worst fears of millions in pursuit of empty tension. A place in Venice’s official selection, even out of competition, was generous.

Exclusive: Voltage Pictures has boarded international sales on writer-director Kyle Rankin’s (Night Of The Living Deb) upcoming thriller Run Hide Fight, starring Thomas Jane (Deep Blue Sea), Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill) and Isabel May (Alexa & Katie). The U.S. firm will present the project to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market.
Run Hide Fight follows 17-year-old Zoe Hull (May) who uses her wits, survival skills, and compassion to fight for her life, and those of her fellow classmates, against a group of live-streaming school shooters.
Currently in post-production, the film also stars Eli Brown (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists), Olly Sholotan (All American), Cyrus Arnold (Zoolander 2), Britton Sear (Boy Erased), Catherine Davis (S.W.A.T.), Treat Williams (Deep Rising), and Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator).
The project’s subject matter is a highly sensitive one. The filmmakers discussed their rationale for making the film and its journey when we broke news about it late last year.
