“American Idol” fans have spoken and they believe Kelsie Dolin was robbed of a spot in the Top 24. Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie axed the 18-year old from Boone County, West Virginia at the end of Hollywood Week. In a recent poll we asked our readers to vote for who they think was inexcusably cut from the competition. Below are the results.

Kelsie Dolin – 34
This 18-year old from Boone County, West Virginia was raised by her grandparents because her mother was a drug addict. Last year, Keslie’s grandmother passed from Covid-19 and it has been hard on the family. Throughout Hollywood week Kelsie began to blossom as her self-confidence grew. Unfortunately, the judges didn’t think she was quite ready for primetime.
Betty Maxwell – 18

“American Idol” continued with the eighth episode of Season 20 on Sunday, April 4. This installment of the ABC reality TV competition saw judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie pairing the contestants up for duets during Hollywood Week. Partners were predetermined for each singer other than Platinum Ticket holders Huntergirl, Kenedi Anderson and Jay Copeland, who were given their top pick. Contestants who survived this stage made it to the Showstoppers round on Monday, April 4.
So who was the best of the night? And did they step up their game since their first Hollywood Week performance? Below I rank each hopeful from the least impressive (but with room to grow) to a possible Season 20 frontrunner. Of course we didn’t see them all, so not every singer who advanced is listed below. Two weeks in a row…Come on ABC! Just add another episode of Hollywood Week next season. Side note,...

American Idol gets a blast from its past in the March 20 episode. As seen in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek as auditions continue in Season 20 (the fifth on ABC), a contestant, Zareh, is following in her mother Nadia’s footsteps. Nadia was a Top 8 contestant (at which point she was eliminated) in Season 4 in 2005 (and auditioned with Aretha Franklin’s “Until You Come Back to Me”). However, the 21-year-old surprised her mother, who didn’t find out what was going on until right before. “Where did you think you were going?” host Ryan Seacrest asks Nadia. The spa, she reveals. Furthermore, Zareh is wearing the same top her mother wore during her audition. Watch the video above to see them side-by-side, Zareh’s audition, and her mother and the judges’ reactions. This will be far from the first notable audition of the season. So far, the judges have seen Aretha Franklin’s granddaughter Grace,...

“American Idol” auditions continued with the second episode of Season 20 on Sunday, March 6. Nine talented artists earned golden tickets to Hollywood, with Kenedi Anderson securing the second coveted Platinum Ticket (Huntergirl received the first in Episode 1). But was Kenedi the best of the night? And did these aspiring stars choose the right songs? Below I rank each hopeful from the least impressive (but with room to grow) to a Season 20 frontrunner. I also throw in a song suggestion or artist I’d love to hear them cover.
But first, I want to give props to that Nashville tour Luke Bryan gave host Ryan Seacrest and his fellow judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie. What a fun moment! And even more kudos for the cheese song by Luke and Katy. Sounds like a hit to me! Both were big episode highlights outside of actual auditions. But enough about the judges, let...

Is it too early to predict that we’ve already found the next American Idol? Because Sunday’s episode, just the second week of the show’s 20th season, definitely introduced at least two major contenders.
Let’s start with this week’s Platinum Ticket recipient, 17-year-old Kenedi Anderson, who blew Katy Perry’s mind with a piano-based reinvention of Lady Gaga’s “Applause.” The performance was heavily promo’d, but no truncated tease could have done it justice. Not only did Anderson completely reimagine the song in her own ethereal style, but her voice is absolutely insane and her instincts are spot on.

The judges have high hopes for season 20 of American Idol. And round two of the auditions gave them more reasons to feel that way. Before the star-studded panel headed to work, Luke Bryan took Katy Perry and Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest on a scenic driving tour of Nashville and Broadway. And during a lunch break later in the show, there was an impromptu duet between Luke and Katy, who started formulating a song about queso. I can taste a hit. As for Idol hopefuls themselves, there was another crop of strong performances, from beauty queen to grocery store employee. One teen wowed the judges so much they earned the second platinum ticket, which gave them a leg up on “Hollywood Week.” In the end, we witnessed fireworks (actually and vocally). Here are the most memorable auditions this week. Betty Maxwell ABC/Eric McCandless The 27-year-old Miss America 2016 explained...

American Idol is welcoming American royalty to the auditions as Miss America 2016, Betty Maxwell puts her crown into the ring for a chance at becoming the country’s next big music star. In an exclusive sneak peek clip of her audition, the 27-year-old performer is bringing her Miss America crown along for good luck and leaves it by judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan who get a little competitive around the accessory. (Credit: ABC) Betty’s audition is doubly special because of the song she’s chosen to perform for the judges. In a brief peke at her musical performance, viewers get to see Betty’s interpretation of “A Moment Like This,” the hit song from American Idol‘s first-ever champion, Kelly Clarkson. Even with her stellar vocals, could someone else be stealing her crown? In the background as Betty belts her song, Katy can’t keep herself from reaching for the headpiece,...
