“It’s anybody’s game,” said Dmitry Sholokhov at the beginning of the “Project Runway All Stars” season finale. He had won the show twice before and was going for an unprecedented three-peat, but this season of “All Stars” featured nothing but past champions, so he was up against fellow Us winners Michelle Lesniak and Irina Shabayeva as well as Canadian “Runway” victor Evan Biddell. Who was named the “Runway” world champion at the end of the night?
The episode got off to an exciting start with the announcement of the final challenge. After weeks of unique, innovative and highly specific design tasks that ran the gamut from airplane materials to Willy Wonka inventions, the designers had no rules at all for their finale collections. Their mission was to take four days and a $3,000 budget to create six-look collections inspired by whatever theme they wanted. Essentially, their design objective could...

In the world of fashion, one day you’re in and the next you’re out. Unless you’re on “Project Runway All Stars,” in which case you’re just in. At the end of “Modern Families,” the penultimate episode of season seven, the judges had to decide which designer to eliminate before sending the final three to next week’s season finale. But they ultimately decided not to decide. Instead, they made the unorthodox choice to send all four of them to the finale. What did you think of that twist? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.

With only two episodes left this season, Wednesday’s Project Runway All Stars presented the remaining four designers with their greatest challenge yet — and not everyone rose to the occasion.
“Recently, what constitutes a family has been debated in society; families now come in all shapes and sizes,” Alyssa Milano told the group before explaining this week’s “family” challenge: “You will each be creating outfits for three members of a modern family. Your designs must be cohesive, because each of your families will take a portrait photo together, and that family portrait will be revealed to everyone on the runway.

There’s just one week left for “Project Runway All Stars” — maybe ever. The seventh season is ending soon, and with it ends the Lifetime era of the “Runway” franchise. So who won the penultimate challenge on the way to the finale, and who (if anyone) was eliminated just short of the finish line? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
The four semifinalists in this all-champions edition of “All Stars” were Evan Biddell (winner of Canadian “Runway” season 1), Michelle Lesniak (American “Runway” season 11), Irina Shabayeva (American “Runway” season 6) and Dmitry Sholokhov (American “Runway” season 10 and “All Stars” season 4). Tonight they were tasked with creating fashion for “Modern Families” in order to secure their places in the finale. And there was an added twist: Marie Claire editor-in-chief Anne Fulenwider, who is usually the designers’ mentor, joined the judges table this time to officially critique their looks.

The judges on “Project Runway All Stars” sure are unforgiving. The two designers on the chopping block at the end of “Nina Says Don’t Cry Over Spilt Silk” were Anthony Ryan Auld and Michelle Lesniak, the only two designers who had won two previous design challenges (Lesniak just won her second last week). It was Auld who ended up exiting the competition after a challenge he tearfully struggled with, but I don’t think he really deserved to go. He was one of the best designers of the season, and maybe I’m in the minority but I thought he was one of the better designers of the night too. Do you agree? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
Auld’s heart wasn’t really in this week’s challenge, which was to design a gown for a royal ball with luxurious silk.

We’re in the home stretch of “Project Runway All Stars” season seven. Only five contestants were left going into the Wednesday night, March 13 episode, “Nina Says Don’t Cry Over Spilt Silk,” and (presumably) only four came out. So who advanced to next week’s penultimate episode, and who was left crying in a pool of misspent silk? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
“Spilt Silk” features Nina Garcia, the editor-in-chief of Elle magazine and a longtime judge on the original “Project Runway” series (you can see her on Thursday night when that show returns to Bravo for its 17th season). In this episode of “All Stars” she challenged the remaining designers to create luxurious ball gowns with silk. Jessica Chastain‘s work for gender parity in Hollywood isn’t slowing down soon.
“I have noticed, of course, now that it’s in fashion there are other people that are jumping on board, and honestly, I don’t care what their motives are,” Chastain tells Variety. “Because at the end of the day, the more we focus on creating opportunities for everyone — I don’t care if some people are doing it because it’s the fashionable thing to do. It’s also the right thing to do.”
Chastain was honored as one of Marie Claire’s Change Makers for its April edition, along with “Selma” director Ava DuVernay and “Crazy Rich Asians” star Constance Wu. The event to celebrate women in the entertainment industry, in partnership with Modern Creation München, took place in West Hollywood Tuesday night.

“Project Runway All Stars” season seven is heating up — literally. In episode 10 of the fashion competition, “Climate Quick Change,” the remaining designers had to create convertible resort-wear that could transition from one climate to another, with Tony-winning actress Cynthia Erivo and fashion designer Reem Acra on hand as guest judges. So who had the hottest looks, and who was left out in the cold? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute updates as they happen.

“Project Runway” focuses predominantly on women’s fashion, but episode nine of “All Stars” season seven flipped the script. Eight designers remained going into episode eight of “Project Runway All Stars.” After dealing with unconventional materials, corsets, zoo animals and more, the designers had to make fashionable evening looks out of — gasp! — daytime separates. Which designers achieved the best day-to-night transformations in “Penneys from Heaven,” and whose looks belonged in the bargain bin? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
Every single “All Stars” contestant this season is a past “Runway” champion. The playing field is so level that six out of the eight remaining designers won a design challenge in the first seven episodes. The only contestant who won twice up to this point was Anthony Ryan Auld, who had the best graduation look in “Top of the Class” and then prevailed again last week in “Pure Imagination.” Dmitry Sholokhov, Irina Shabayeva, Christina Exie, Michelle Lesniak and Sean Kelly also won challenges.

Django Steenbakker‘s elimination from “Project Runway All Stars” was a long time coming. He spent three weeks in a row in the judges’ bottom three, but the avant garde challenge in “Pure Imagination” was the last straw. The avant garde challenge this week was inspired by “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” It was the two-time Tony-winning star of that Broadway musical Christian Borle who told the top nine designers that they had to create a new fashion invention for their bold designs. An avant-garde challenge on Wednesday’s episode of Project Runway All Stars revealed which of the remaining designers have pure imagination… and which may not have any at all.
Following a trip to Broadway’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical, the nine contestants were tasked with using their imagination to “invent something never seen before in fashion. It could be a practical but surprising use for a garment, an unexpected innovation, or an inventive way to wear something new.” (And to give you an idea of how long ago this episode must have been filmed, Charlie ended its run in Jan.

“What we’ll see will defy explanation.” Those lyrics from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” couldn’t have been more fitting on “Project Runway All Stars.” In episode seven, “Pure Imagination,” the designers embarked on this season’s avant garde challenge. So who got the judges’ golden ticket, and who was booted from this factory tour? Scroll down for our live blog with all the minute-by-minute developments as they happen.
The avant garde challenge has always been an opportunity for designers to let their freak flags fly, but they had better fly high, especially this season. In the first six weeks of the competition the judges saw some wild, unflattering designs, but they have often been harder on contestants who created bland, uninspired looks (like Juli Grbac) than those who took big swings and missed (like three-time low-scorer Django Steenbakker). And when it comes to avant garde fashion, there’s nothing worse than boring.

Django Steenbakker may be down, but he’s not out … yet. The “Project Runway All Stars” designer has gotten low scores from the judges for the last three weeks in a row, but he hasn’t even been in the bottom two yet, let alone eliminated. The “On the Prowl” challenge on “Project Runway All Stars” featured the season’s most dramatic designer face-off thus far when Dmitry Sholokhov and a few other contestants insinuated that Michelle Lesniak stole Sholokhov’s ideas. To paraphrase a common sentiment, I don’t know much about fashion, but I know what I like. And I like “Project Runway All Stars” front-runner Dmitry Sholokhov just fine. But after five weeks of competition I’m kind of wondering what all the fuss is about. Almost everyone in this champions edition of “Project Runway All Stars” has had ups and downs in the first four episodes of the competition. From week to week you can’t count on anyone being safe. But so far there have been three designers who have escaped the judges wrath: Evan Biddell, Dmitry Sholokhov and Michelle Lesniak. Is one of them the front-runner to win?
The champions in this season’s cast come from the American iterations of “Runway” as well as its international spin-offs. Sholokhov won two American seasons: “Runway” season 10 and “All-Stars” season 4. Lesniak won American “Runway” season 11. And Biddell represents our neighbor to the north: he won Canadian “Runway” season 1.

Biddell’s only high score of the season so far actually came for a design in which he paid tribute to his Canadian heritage, creating a look with a Mountie motif.

It was the worst of times, it was the best of times for “Project Runway All Stars” contestant Anthony Ryan Auld. In the season seven premiere he struggled with the recent loss of his grandmother and produced a slapdash look that nearly got him eliminated right out of the gate. But he made an epic comeback in the second week of competition. What did you think of his performance in “Top of the Class“? Was it grade-a for you like it was for the judges?
Luckily for Auld there was no elimination in the season premiere, so while he and Anya Ayoung-Chee finished as the bottom two, they both lived to design another day. But the second challenge got off to a rough start for Auld too. The contestants were tasked with creating a graduation party look in two colors. The designers didn’t get to choose their colors, though.

“Project Runway All Stars” is a spin-off of “Project Runway” that began in 2012. For its first five seasons, it only featured returning designers but changed that in season six to include new contestants as well. Angela Lindvall and Carolyn Murphy each hosted one season before Alyssa Milano took over in season three. The permanent judges are designers Georgina Chapman and Isaac Mizrahi. The mentors have been Joanna Coles (seasons one and two), Zanna Roberts Rassi (seasons three to five) and Anne Fulenwider (season six).

After three months of competition, “Project Runway All Stars” season six ended on Thursday night, April 5, with its season finale episode “Making Fashion History.” The episode concluded a two-part challenge in which the designers were tasked with creating six-piece collections inspired by American history. So who prevailed? Scroll down for our complete minute-by-minute live blog with all the latest developments as they happen.
Last week, in “History in the Making,” Ken Laurence was eliminated before getting a chance to show his collection and compete for the title, leaving Fabio Costa, Stanley Hudson and Anthony Williams in contention to win. That was after the four competitors showed a preview look from their collections to the judges. But since the judges already saw one look, the remaining three had to design more piece, for a total of seven each.

He came so close, but Ken Laurence couldn’t quite reach the finish line on “Project Runway All Stars.” In the penultimate episode of the season, “History in the Making,” the designers had to jump through multiple hoops to earn a spot in the finale. In the end Fabio Costa, Stanley Hudson and Anthony Williams made it through, while Laurence was left by the wayside. Do you think the judges made the right decision, or did they eliminate the wrong contestant? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
At the start of the episode Laurence thought he’d already made it through to the finale — all the designers did. When visiting the Smithsonian in Washington DC they were told by host Alyssa Milano that their next challenge would be to design a complete six-piece collection for the finale inspired by American history. We’re in the home stretch for “Project Runway All Stars” season six. On Thursday night, March 29, the final four designers competed for the penultimate time before the champion is decided in the April 5 finale. In “History in the Making” Stanley Hudson, Fabio Costa, Ken Laurence and Anthony Williams visited the Smithsonian in Washington DC to create six-piece collections. So who advanced to the finale, and who was history? Find out below in our live blog with minute-by-minute developments and commentary.
Going into this literally “historic” episode all four designers seemed evenly matched. They had all won multiple design challenges over the course of the season: three for Stanley, and two apiece for Fabio, Ken and Anthony. And all of them had stumbled at least once with a low score from the judges: Fabio was one of the bottom designers in one previous challenge, while Stanley and Ken each scored poorly twice,...

It was the best of times for Edmond Newton, but then it was the worst of times. He was eliminated in Thursday night’s episode, “Nina’s Crushing It,” just one week after winning the design challenge in “Rock Your Face Off.” Do you think the judges were right to send him home in fifth place, or should he have advanced to the final four? Scroll down to vote in our poll at the bottom of this post.
“Nina’s Crushing It” brought on Marie Claire fashion director and “Project Runway” original series judge Nina Garcia to give the designers their assignment for the week: to create a resort look inspired by different levels in the “Candy Crush Saga” mobile game. Newton admitted that he had no familiarity with the game, so when the five designers played to decide who got their top choice of “Candy Crush” levels. Newton finished...

There have been unusual design inspirations on “Project Runway” before. Just this season on “All Stars” the contestants have distressed their looks with razors and blowtorches, made ball gowns out of literal balls, and even designed a look for cartoon character Betty Boop. So naturally in episode 11, “Nina’s Crushing It,” it was time for the designers to apply their skills to resort wear inspired by the “Candy Crush Saga” mobile video game. So how did Edmond Newton, Stanley Hudson, Fabio Costa, Ken Laurence and Anthony Williams do on the road to the finale on April 5? Find out below in our live blog with all the minute-by-minute updates.
The pressure on the final five designers was high enough given the high level of competition this late in the game — all of them had won at least one design challenge up to this point. But this week they also had to impress guest judge Nina Garcia,...

Season six of “Project Runway All Stars” is nearing the home stretch. The series entered episode 10, “Rock Your Face Off,” with its final six designers: Helen Castillo, Fabio Costa, Stanley Hudson, Ken Laurence, Edmond Newton and Anthony Williams. So who rocked on to the top five, and who had to face the music? Scroll down for our live blog with minute-by-minute updates of all the episode’s developments.
“Rock Your Face Off” challenged the designers to create performance looks fit for a music superstar. So where “Posen on the Red Carpet” last week demanded Oscar-caliber chic, this challenge required edgy Grammy glam. It’s too bad Lady Gaga wasn’t present as a guest judge given her history of wearing famously provocative dresses made of meat and Kermit the Frog dolls — though in that case she might be a better fit for an unconventional materials challenge. Instead the designers were...

After starting with 16 contestants, season 6 of “Project Runway All Stars” was down to 8 going into episode 8, “Mizrahi Madness.” So the stakes were twice as high, and the designers needed to work twice as hard to win the judges’ approval. Who won the design challenge, who was eliminated, and who do you think will win the season when all is said and done? Scroll down for our live, minute-by-minute report of episode eight as it happens.
Isaac Mizrahi is a judge on “All Stars,” but in “Madness” he was also the contestants’ inspiration. The designers had to create colorful party looks inspired by a Mizrahi exhibit, so they not only had to win his approval, they had to try to live up to his work. And joining the panel to evaluate those party designs was another legend of the fashion industry, 86-year-old supermodel Carmen Dell’Orefice.

Two weeks after the elimination of Char Glover from “Project Runway All Stars” in the unique, cartoon-inspired challenge “Thrown for a Loop by Betty Boop,” the fashion design spin-off returned with its seventh episode of season six, “A Kick in the Astro.” And if the designers thought their distressed challenge and unconventional-materials challenge were tough, this time around they had to go for broke and unleash their unbridled creativity in an avant garde challenge judged by guest stars RuPaul Charles and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. So who thought outside of the box and who got, well, a swift kick in the astro? Scroll down for our complete minute-by-minute recap.
There were nine competitors left going into this week’s “Astro”-nomical event. Of those only Fabio Costa had won multiple previous challenges: he came out on top in “Perfect Pairings” (with Ken Laurence) and “Fashion’s New Superheroes.” Merline Labissiere won...

“Project Runway All Stars” season six was down to its top 10 contestants in episode six, “Thrown for a Loop by Betty Boop,” a unique design challenge in which the classic cartoon character, created in the 1930s, tasked the designers with creating young, chic Hollywood looks. So who slayed, who stayed, and who was eliminated? Scroll down for our live, minute-by-minute recap of all the developments as they happened.
Last week’s episode, “Fashion’s New Superheroes,” upended the competition when it ended with the surprise elimination of Amanda Valentine. Leading into that episode Amanda had been the front-runner to win the season according to the users we’ve polled every week for their picks. On top of that she was the fifth woman in a row to get the boot in a season that has also seen the male designers win every design challenge except the first.

One of the biggest questions going into Thursday night’s show was whether all womuld be forgiven after Helen Castillo criticized her fellow designers in “Balls Out.” She created her own textile for the challenge and thought some of her competitors took the easy way out by gluing the unconventional materials to muslin forms. She as much as said so on the runway when receiving negative critiques from the judges, prompting a confrontation backstage. “You undermined everyone else to make yourself look better,...

It was only a matter of time before the designers on “Project Runway All Stars” were faced with a dreaded unconventional-materials challenge. On Thursday night, January 25, the remaining 12 competitors used a variety of balls to construct their own unique ball gowns. So who created the ballsiest looks, and who was told to take their ball and go home? Scroll down for our live, minute-by-minute recap of season six, episode four, “Balls Out.”
This week’s show followed an especially dramatic third episode, “Perfect Pairings,” in which the designers were teamed up to collaborate on looks inspired by food-and-wine pairings. There were two winners of that challenge: Fabio Costa and Ken Laurence. But that means there was also a losing team, Melissa Fleis and Ari South, and they were both sent home in a double elimination.
The team that narrowly avoided elimination was Candice Cuoco and Merline Labissiere. They struggled to...

On Thursday’s Project Runway All Stars, the only things more distressed than the designs were the designers themselves.

The remaining 15 contestants were tasked with creating post-apocalyptic looks, and while few of them could even pronounce “post-apocalyptic,” they all turned out interesting designs that — at the very least — held Isaac Mizrahi’s interest. (And isn’t that half the battle on this show?)
Anthony appeared to struggle the most with this week’s challenge, as even his fellow designers could tell he was “freaking out” in the workroom. It wasn...

On tonight’s Project Runway, the remaining designers go on a helicopter trip to get inspiration for the latest challenge. The episode sees the contestants joined by guest judge Anne Fulenwider, the editor-in-chief of Marie Claire magazine. And she sends them on the chopper flight to get ideas for ‘high-fashion’ looks that are all about power. She tells them: “At Marie Claire we celebrate powerful women. “Whether it’s fashion, beauty, advise or news, we stress the importance of making a woman feel confident and powerful.” Host Tim Gunn reveals: “Today, we’ve decided to send you all on a ‘power trip’.
