Every man in “A Man In Full” is a piece of shit. They’re selfish, they’re abusive, they’re obsessed with their balls — not one could hold a baby without making them cry. But the first sign that Netflix’s six-episode series has gone awry is that they’re not total pieces of shit. They’re mostly, partly, or just a little bit shitty, and their failures to embrace the truest, richest, most complete versions of themselves turns out toothless satire, sharing little of note about these buffoonish bros and even less about modern society.
Take Charlie Croker (Jeff Daniels), an ex-college football star and prevailing real estate mogul. He’s both a man of the people and a man often described as an ass hole, possibly because guests at his country estate are forced to watch horses have sex. Jeff Daniels and Diane Lane rarely put in anything less than stellar performances, but the Emmy winner and Oscar nominee are rarely as good as they are in Netflix’s adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s A Man in Full.
In a fortnight that has seen the premieres of Hulu’s Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough starring Under the Bridge, the Elisabeth Moss spy thriller FX series Veil, HBO’s The Sympathizer, based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize winner and a third season of the still wonderfully wicked Hacks launching today on Max, executive producers Regina King and David E. Kelley have put a real winner on the track for Netflix with A Man in Full.
On any other show, the never better Daniels as a pugnacious Atlanta real estate tycoon Charlie Croker on the brink of bankruptcy, and Lane as his revitalized razor-sharp ex-wife Martha would be more than enough of a payoff.

It’s season finale time for networks, but Netflix, naturally, still has plenty of brand new TV and shows coming in May.
Jeff Daniels makes his TV return in the David E. Kelley series “A Man in Full.” That six-episode series is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Tom Wolfe. Per a press release: “When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.” The series will also star Tom Pelphrey, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, William Jackson Harper, Aml Ameen, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill and Chanté Adams.
Additionally, comedy fans can get excited for a new special series from John Mulaney. The comedian is hosting a multi-night event, “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” that looks to be part interview show and part man-on-the-street hijinks.

When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace. What happens when a powerful man faces the prospect of losing his power? A total shitshow.
In Netflix’s “A Man in Full,” Jeff Daniels plays real estate tycoon Charlie Croker, whose power is threatened by a sudden bankruptcy, conflicts of interest, and people relishing his fall from every corner. For a man who had it all, things are about to get significantly more treacherous. The trailer evokes the petty politics and animosity of HBO’s “Succession,” which has been away for almost a year and whose fans will surely be seeking this exact strain of comfort (“We got off your medical records. Turns out you’re a pussy”).
The six-episode limited series comes from writer, executive producer, and showrunner David E. Kelley and is based on the bestselling novel by Tom Wolfe. Regina King, Matthew Tinker, Thomas C Wolfe, Alexandra Wolfe, and Tommy Schlamme also executive produce, with King...

Jeff Daniels contemplates life and death in a teaser trailer and first-look images for A Man in Full
“When you die, will people notice,” Charlie Croker (Jeff Daniels) asks in Netflix‘s teaser trailer for the upcoming limited series A Man in Full. The question is as old as time and something people often ask themselves when contemplating a swift exit from this mortal coil. What would prompt a real estate mogul to have such macabre thoughts? His bankruptcy and inevitable downfall, of course.
Here’s the official synopsis for A Man in Full courtesy of Netflix:
When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.
A Man in Full is based on the New York Times best-selling novel by the late Tom Wolfe, who died of an infection in Manhattan in 2018. The six-episode limited series hails from David E. Kelley Productions and Royal Ties Productions Inc.

Netflix is throwing a last-minute limited series Emmy contender into the ring with “A Man in Full.” The six-episode drama series premieres May 2, the streaming service announced Wednesday.
The series stars two-time Emmy winner Jeff Daniels as Charlie Croker, an Atlanta real estate mogul facing sudden financial and reputational ruin who has to fend off enemies that, sensing weakness, are coming for his business empire. In a teaser accompanying the date announcement, Croker looks out over the city from a high floor of a skyscraper while he ignores an urgently ringing phone. “I heard once a man reaches a point where he’s older,” he intones in a Southern-accented voiceover. “That ain’t the tragedy. The tragedy is he refuses to recognize it.” Then another voices asks “Mr. Croker, are you ready?”

Prime Video Cancels 'A League of Their Own' Despite Season 2 Renewal in the Midst of Writers Strikes
Unfortunately, it’s two strikes and your out for the Prime Video series “A League of Their Own.” After a critically acclaimed first season on the Amazon service, the adaption of the iconic 1992 movie of the same name was canceled, but the streamer announced that it would get a four-episode second season before wrapping up. However, it has been announced that those plans have changed and that Prime Video would not be moving forward with the abbreviated Season 2 after all.

The co-creator and star of A League of Their Own is speaking out after Prime Video's decided to cancel the drama series despite previously renewing it.
The series was canceled alongside The Peripheral on Friday night, with many believing both were casualties of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
Abbi Jacobson, who plays Carson Shaw in the series, took to social media over the weekend after Prime Video rescinded the show's four-episode second season.
"What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much," she wrote.
"What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today."
Jacobson addressed the rumors that the series was let go due to the dual strikes.
"To blame this cancellation on the strike is bulls—t and cowardly."
"But this post isn't about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer.

“A League of Their Own” creator Abbi Jacobson is furious at the cancellation of her show.
Prime Video is not moving forward with the previously ordered second — and final — season of comedy-drama A League Of Their Own, cocreated and starring Jacobson, Deadline has learned.
The series was a reimagining of the 1992 film, A League of Their Own, which was about the women who formed their own professional baseball league during World War II.
Jacobson was Carson Shaw, D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place) was Greta Gill, and Chanté Adams was Max Chapman in the series.
Production delays wrought by the ongoing Hollywood strikes was blamed by Prime sources for the demise.
That excuse didn’t sit well with Jacobson.

“A League of Their Own”, Prime Video’s series inspired by Penny Marshall’s 1992 feature, is no more.
On Friday, Aug. 18, Deadline reported the show had been cancelled, with the streamer deciding to rescind its original announcement that “League” had been picked up for a brief four-episode second season that would conclude the storyline.
According to the outlet, the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were behind the decision; since production wouldn’t be able to begin on the new episodes until 2024 at the earliest, this would push the premiere date of those episodes to 2025 — resulting in a three-year gap between the first and second seasons.

The change of heart likely stemmed from the dual strikes occurring across the industry.
The series starred Chloë Grace Moretz as Flynne Fischer, a woman who discovered a secret connection to an alternate reality as well as a dark future of her own.
What is one of the first of likely many strike-related cancellations, The Peripheral seemed to fare well on the streamer.
Each week, Twitter would be abuzz with theories and praise for the show, especially for the performances from Moretz and one of the lead antagonists, played by T'Nia Miller.
With the WGA on strike for over 100 days and SAG-AFTRA on strike for over a month, we expect there to be many similar cases of reversals when it comes to renewed series that hadn't already begun production.

Also on Friday, Prime Video reversed its Season 2 renewal of the sci-fi drama The Peripheral, starring Chloë Grace Moretz. An Amazon insider tells TVLine that both cancellations are due to production delays caused by the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

‘A League Of Their Own’ Canceled: Prime Video Not Proceeding With Second & Final Season Amid Strikes
Exclusive: Prime Video is not moving forward with the previously ordered second — and final — season of comedy-drama A League Of Their Own, co-created and starring Abbi Jacobson, Deadline has learned.
It joins fellow Prime Video/Amazon Studios hourlong freshman series The Peripheral, which also had its Season 2 renewal reversed.
As Deadline reported earlier today, both cancellations are believed to stem from the length of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have delayed TV production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.
In a story earlier this week, Deadline reported that there may be more series whose renewals could be rescinded or pending pickups not happen if the work stoppage stretches past Labor Day, with freshman series going into Season 2 the most vulnerable. There was a similar string of unrenewals during the pandemic.

Prime Video has canceled “The Peripheral,” despite the Chloë Grace Moretz-led sci-fi series receiving a renewal for a second season in February.
An individual with knowledge of the matter tells TheWrap that the cancelation stems from delays caused by the ongoing Writers’ Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, and SAG-AFTRA strike, which began on July 14. The individual noted that the series was originally intended to go into production this year for a release in 2024.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by William Gibson, the series hailed from “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films banner, who are under an overall deal at Amazon Studios. “The Peripheral” follows Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Amazon Studios Television head Vernon Sanders suggested that the company would be open to continuing their “A League of Their Own” series, despite its recent decision to renew the show for an abbreviated four-episode second season.
“I’m one of those people that believes that if magic happens and we get a great response, this doesn’t necessarily have to be the end,” Sanders told TheWrap. “It will totally depend on how it performs and how the cast and creators all decide they want to revisit it if they do. So let’s hope we get that big audience.”
He emphasized that the studio “loved” the show and that the conversation about bringing it back was a “tough one.”

“I fell in love with her,” declares Gbemisola Ikumelo about portraying fan-favorite character Chance Morgan on “A League of Their Own.” For our recent webchat she adds, “A lot of it was in the writing. She jumps off the page and you just go, ‘don’t screw it up, it’s all here!’ But also, there’s a real freedom given to us on set to play and to improvise and to go, ‘Ok, this take is for you guys to mess around, so I think in playing, you’re finding other layers for the character. Prime Video has ordered the second installment of “A League of Their Own,” which will be a four-episode limited series, as previously leaked much to fans’ disappointment.
The television version of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film looks deeper into race, sexuality and other identity aspects of the players who participated in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was formed when the men had to go fight in World War II.
“We’re deeply proud of the work that Abbi [Jacobson], Will [Graham], the cast, and crew have done reimagining ‘A League of Their Own’ which has produced an incredibly loyal fan base as well as achieved numerous, well-deserved recognitions and accolades,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon and MGM Studios. “After hearing what Abbi, Will, and the writing team have planned for the new story within this wonderful series, we are excited for our fans to see what comes next.

A League of Their Own has been renewed for a second, albeit short, season at Prime Video, and while four episodes may not feel like enough time to properly continue to stories of the women at the center of this moving show, ideas for where the story is heading next has been on the brain for some time. Speaking to showrunner Will Graham following Season 1’s finale, TV Insider asked what may be in store for Season 2, which hadn’t been announced at the time. “We have a super clear idea of where we want to go,” Graham said. “Both in Carson’s (Abbi Jacobson) story and Max’s (Chanté Adams) story.” As viewers will recall, the women experienced parallel journeys into the world of baseball as they both became parts of teams while having different struggles of their own. While Carson came to terms with her sexuality, Max endured...

The Rockford Peaches are set to return to Amazon Prime Video one last time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, A League of Their Own is returning to the streaming service for a second and final season.
And it will be short.
The outlet alleges that A League of Their Own Season 2 will comprise just four episodes.
Amazon has not confirmed the renewal, but THR notes that deals are still being worked out.
As a result, we should expect a formal pickup when the deals are completed.
The road to renewal was reportedly complicated by renegotiations with Sony to lower the drama's licensing fee.
The cast also had to sign new deals because the season will be comprised of half the episodes of A League of Their Own Season 1.
While Amazon has not announced the pickup, it is set to be billed as a "limited series."

Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham’s “A League of Their Own” series on Amazon’s Prime Video will return for a shortened final season of four episodes, according to multiple reports.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon made the decision after months of negotiations that included a reduction of the show’s licensing fee by Sony, who owns the rights to the movie. The streaming arm of the retail and tech company sought to lower the budget and production costs for a second season. Even a movie was considered for the show’s conclusion, according to THR sources.
Co-creator of the show Will Graham tweeted in response to the reports, adding onto a thread he began earlier Tuesday morning.

“A League of Their Own” is getting another chance on the diamond, but the crew will only be playing a half-game. The Prime Video TV adaptation of the beloved film has been renewed for a second season — but it will be the series’ last, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
What’s more, the show from “Broad City’s” Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham, who also serves as showrunner on Amazon’s “Daisy Jones & The Six” limited series, will receive an abbreviated run of only four hourlong episodes; the first season, which released all at once on August 12, 2022, consists of eight. Geena Davis reveals romantic scene with Tom Hanks that was ‘thankfully’ cut in A League of Their Own
Geena Davis has revealed a “juicy” scene that was cut from A League of Their Own, which involved a romantic moment with co-star Tom Hanks.
Davis starred as baseballer Dottie in the 1992 sports comedy classic – a fictional take on the true history of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League – opposite Hanks’ Jimmy, the lazy oaf hired as the team’s coach.
Speaking to Vanity Fair in a recent interview, Davis was asked to expand on the “juicy” film details included in her new debut memoir, Dying of Politeness, specifically the “romantic scene” that was cut.
“You can tell something’s going on between them. They’re significant to each other,” Davis said of Dottie and Jimmy.
“But this was a scene at night on a pitcher’s mound where we ended up kissing, and we realised that that can’t happen.”
She explained: “Evidently, when they tested the movie, people just went nuts about that.

In Amazon’s A League of Their Own TV show, the experiences of women in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League are just half of the story.
A scene in Penny Marshall’s 1992 film of the same name inspires the other half of the series, which debuted Aug. 12 on Prime Video. In the sequence, Rockford Peaches catcher Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) fields a painfully fast throw from an unnamed Black woman (DeLisa Chinn-Tyler), who comes down from the stands to return a foul ball. It’s one of the movie’s most memorable moments because of what it alludes to beyond its brief screen time: the history of Black women in baseball.
Given the chance to expand the story Marshall told, which itself was based on director Mary Wilson and producers Kim Wilson and Kelly Candaele’s 1987 documentary about the Aagpbl, co-creators Abbi Jacobson...

Tom Hanks is giving his thoughts on Amazon’s new A League of Their Own series, a reimagining of the 1992 film he starred in alongside Geena Davis.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of his new Pinocchio film on Wednesday, Hanks said he hasn’t watched the show yet, but he said, “I’m really glad it’s here because they can touch on some of the social things that were bypassed by the original. That’s where we are now. There’s no reason not to get into the other aspects of who people love and why they play the game and stuff like that as well.”
The series, co-created by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson and starring Jacobson, Chanté Adams and D’Arcy Carden, features far greater representation than the original film, highlighting Black and LGBTQ+ characters on the Rockford Peaches women’s baseball team.

Chicago – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com appears on The Eddie Volkman Show with Hannah B on Wssr-fm on September 2nd, reviewing the new TV series “A League of Their Own,” a parallel universe adaptation of the popular 1992 film, now streaming on Prime Video.
Television Rating: 4.5/5.0
The creators of this new “A League of Their Own” – one of whom is Abbi Jacobson, who is also the main character – made the right choice of creating a whole new universe involving the Rockford Peaches of the All-American Girls baseball league, and as a twist added a story about Black Americans trying to survive during the World War II era. Jacobson is Carson Shaw, the team catcher and married to a solider at war. Chanté Adams is Maxine, a talented pitcher who is not allowed to be on the team because she’s black. Their stories eventually intersect, as the Peaches strive toward the championship.
