Losing in the battles or knockouts of “The Voice” could feel defeating for any artist, but it doesn’t necessarily mean their chances of winning the reality TV singing competition are over. In fact, three artists have accomplished this feat in the show’s previous 21 seasons. Scroll down to see which singers have gone from giveaways to champions once their fate rested in America’s hands.
Four Season 22 artists have reached the live playoffs following a steal in the knockouts: Kevin Hawkins (Team Gwen Stefani), Rowan Grace (Team Blake Shelton), Kate Kalvach (Team Camila Cabello) and Sasha Hurtado (Team John Legend). Do any of them have what it takes to accomplish what these three were able to?

Is the years-long “The Voice” instant save curse about to be broken? If John Legend‘s gospel singer Jershika Maple ends up winning Season 21 during the December 14 finale, she’ll make history as the first artist to prevail who was previously saved by social media users. Since the creation of the instant save twist in Season 6, none of its recipients have ever gone on to win “The Voice.” Britton Buchanan (Season 14) and Toneisha Harris (Season 18) came closest by each placing second behind their winners, but all of the other times the saved artist finished near the bottom of their respective finales.

If Blake Shelton‘s country singer Ian Flanigan ends up winning Season 19 during next week’s finale, he’ll make history as the first artist to prevail who was previously saved by Twitter. Clare Bowen embraces her scars in the new video for “Let It Rain,” the first track to be released from the Nashville star’s upcoming self-titled debut album.
Directed by Bowen with Tyler Barksdale, the video depicts the Australian native in a disheveled, confused state and in a bar among several other people — including her husband Brandon Robert Young — dealing with their own assorted crises. It’s official: There’s a curse on “The Voice” Instant Save.
Ever since this twist was created back in Season 6, no artist that’s been saved by Twitter or brought back via a wild card has ever gone on to win the show. Even more troubling, all of the Instant Save recipients have placed last in their respective finales aside from Britton Buchanan, who defied the odds to place second to Brynn Cartelli in Season 14. This year Andrew Sevener of Team Blake Shelton tried his hardest to break the curse but he, too, ended up placing last in Tuesday’s season finale.

The winner of season 16 of “The Voice” was announced on May 21, 2019 at the end of the two-hour results show. But in a break with tradition last season’s champion, Chevel Shepherd, was not part of the line-up of talent that performed in the lead-up to the big reveal.
Compare that to when Chevel claimed the title in December 2018 and the season 14 winner, Brynn Cartelli, got a chance to sing her new single, “Last Night’s Mascara.” That exposure propelled the song to #19 on the charts. And Brynn then got to spend the first part of 2019 touring the country as the opening act for her coach Kelly Clarkson.
Brynn has done better than the season 13 winner, Chloe Kohanski, who likewise returned to “The Voice” to debut her new single “Come This Far” on last spring’s season 14 finale. While she had made it to No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her...

Is a long-standing “The Voice” curse about to be broken? Amazingly, since the Instant Save twist was first enacted back in Season 6, no recipient has ever gone on to win “The Voice.” Britton Buchanan came the closest in Season 14 by being the runner-up to winner Brynn Cartelli, but all of the other times — including last season with Kennedy Holmes — the saved artist finishes last in their respective finales.

Season 14 of “The Voice” kicks off on February 26. That is just shy of 10 weeks since Chloe Kohanski claimed the season 13 title on December 19, 2017. She became the sixth winner for coach Blake Shelton, who has been with the show since the start. Kohanski won after delivering a soaring performance of the original song “Wish I Didn’t Love You” as well as a cover of the 1980s hit “Bette Davis Eyes” and a duet with Shelton on “You Got It.”
The single of her original song only made it to No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100. Is that a sign of things to come when Kohanski releases her first album later this year? In the photo gallery above, we take a look back at the first 13 winners of “The Voice” to date and see how many have been lucky so far and which have been jinxed.
