Leslie Shampaine and Pip Gilmour‘s feature documentary “Call Me Dancer” will have its world premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, in competition for best documentary, on Feb. 9, followed by its New York premiere at the Dance on Camera Film Festival at the Lincoln Center on Feb. 10.
The film follows Manish Chauhan, a young and talented street dancer from Mumbai who struggles against his parents’ insistence that he follow a traditional path.When he accidentally walks into an inner-city dance school and encounters curmudgeonly 70-year-old Israeli ballet master Yehuda Maor, a hunger develops within him and he is determined to make it as a professional dancer, but the odds are stacked
against him.
Filmed in India, Israel, the U.K. and the U.S., the dance documentary features original songs by Jay Sean, music by Bangladeshi-American hip-hop artist Anik Khan and a score by British-Indian composer Nainita Desai.

BBC Studios has taken full ownership of Killing Eve producer Sid Gentle Films, adding another major U.K. production company to the growing stable now entirely under the control of the BBC’s commercial production-distribution arm.
Alongside its BAFTA, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning spy thriller series Killing Eve, Sid Gentle — founded in 2013 by Sally Woodward Gentle, with Lee Morris and Henrietta Colvin — was best known for ITV’s BAFTA nomination show The Durrells, plus SS-gb, Ragdoll and Neil Gaiman’s Likely Stories. BBC Studios has been a 51 percent investor since 2018, but announced it was upping its stake from MIPCOM on Monday.

Kara Tointon, Harriet Walter and Laura Aikman have joined the cast of Cary Grant biopic “Archie” alongside Jason Isaacs, who will play the matinee idol himself.
Aikman (“Bluestone 42”) is set to play Grant’s ex-wife Dyan Cannon, Walter (“Succession”) will play his mother Elsie Leach and Tointon (“Mr Selfridge”) will play a younger version of Elsie.
Also joining the cast are Henry Lloyd-Hughes (“Ragdoll”), Ian Pulston-Davies (“Di Ray”), Ian McNeice (“Doc Martin”), Jason Watkins (“McDonald & Dodds”), Lisa Faulkner (“EastEnders”) and Niamh Cusack (“The Virtues”).
Meanwhile Dainton Anderson (“Patrick Melrose”), Calam Lynch (“Bridgerton”) and Oaklee Pendergast (“Home”) will play young versions of Grant, whose real name was Archie Leach.
The series will follow Grant from his early life in Bristol, England, where he was born into extreme poverty in the 1900s, before auditioning for a music hall act, a move which would eventually change his life. The troupe went on tour to the U.
