Donald Glover has been booked and busy, but those rumors about his schedule holding up production on Peacock’s Community: The Movie aren’t accurate, according to the multihyphenate.
“It’s happening but I don’t know when. I swear, it’s happening,” Glover told Deadline earlier this week at the Deadline Studio at Prime Experience in support of his Prime Video series Mr. and Mrs Smith. The video can be watched above.
When asked if it was his busy schedule holding up production, he said while laughing, “Everybody is hating on me on the internet and it’s not me! They’re like, ‘We know that you’re the reason.’ Maybe I was last year — maybe — but not this time.”

On Tuesday, leadership at Columbia University called in the New York City Police Department to break up student protests demanding the university divest from Israel amid its ongoing siege in Gaza, which has led to the deaths of more than 34,000 Palestinians. Protestors were seen being arrested by law enforcement, zip-tied, and loaded onto buses that drove away from campus.
Pro-Palestine student protesters have led an encampment at Columbia for two weeks. This is the second time that the university has called in the NYPD to clear the encampment. Police were...

“Community” creator Dan Harmon is inching closer to the finish line for the “movie” portion of his “Six Seasons and a Movie” prophecy.
Following up on former “Community” star Donald Glover’s recent assertion that a script is already in the can, Harmon told Variety that it was almost right. According to Harmon, he’s “almost done” working on the script for the highly-anticipated film, which is set to run on NBCU’s Peacock streaming service.
“I can confirm Donald Glover’s report that I told him the script was done, but I will also say Donald’s sources are so unreliable because the script is always ‘almost done,'” Harmon quipped. “What can I tell you about it — it’s set on the campus of Greendale Community College. I’m super excited about it, and we’re almost done.”
Donald Glover told Entertainment Tonight last month that he was told “the script — literally,...

Actor and comedian Ken Jeong, who is currently a judge on Fox’s “The Masked Singer,” is developing a talk show with an eye toward a 2024 launch, according to media reports on Friday.
He taped a test show in New York on Friday, Deadline reported. That’s not a SAG strike violation as talk show hosts are under a different contract and no longer a WGA red flag — as it was for Drew Barrymore and Bill Maher — as writers have gone back to work after successfully negotiating a new contract with the AMPTP.
Jim Biederman of “The Kids in the Hall” will serve as showrunner, writer and director. He’ll also executive produce alongside Jeong for Debmar-Mercury, the company behind “The Wendy Williams Show” and “The Nick Cannon Show.”
Prior to joining “The Masked Singer,” Jeong starred in the ABC sitcom “Dr. Ken.” He also played Ben Chang on NBC...

Community fans got their wish in 2022 when Peacock ordered a movie follow-up for the comedy series.
Since the announcement, there have been few updates about the project, and, as expected, the project is on hold due to the Writers Guild Strike.
Series star Joel McHale opened up to TV Line while promoting Crime Scene Kitchen.
"That was a bummer, because we were getting very close," he told the outlet.
"But at the same time, I'm a thousand billion percent behind the writers. The writers need to be paid."
The actor confirmed the project is on hold but will still happen when the time is right.
"When this strike is over, we'll come back and we'll make it."
"And I am sure that [series creator] Dan [Harmon] will put in 12 jokes addressing the fact it took [this long to come together]," McHale said.
"But we'll get there. It just may take a little while."

I just finished another "Community" rewatch, making that number ... um ... maybe it's best if I don't say. Let's just say I'm a fan, even of the "gas leak" year. If you're unfamiliar with that term, it's season 4 of the show. Creator Dan Harmon was fired at the end of season 3, and new showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port were hired to replace him. Season 4 went a little off the rails. It's still pretty fun, but it's definitely missing that Harmon touch.
Harmon was rehired after season 4's ratings went down, and he stayed for seasons 5, which aired on NBC, and 6, which aired on Yahoo! Screen. When he came back, he had quite the job ahead of him: He and the writers' room had to find a way to bring the series back to the weird, quirky, and utterly hysterical comedy we all knew and loved.
Some of their ideas were pretty weird,...

"Community" was simply playing the long game with "Six seasons and a movie," after all.
One of the funniest running gags in the entire comedy series -- which started as an incredibly niche underdog with an almost impenetrable sense of humor and consistently low ratings, only later exploding in popularity as the years have gone by -- has finally turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy. Today, after far too many false starts and hints and hopeful speculation, the news has been made official that "Community" will receive its very own feature film spin-off. Teased on social media by members of the cast like Joel McHale and Ken Jeong before the news officially broke, Peacock confirmed the rumors once and for all with the reveal that the long, long, long-awaited "Community" movie will debut exclusively on the streaming service.

Pop, pop the champagne: Maybe it’s not the darkest timeline after all, as “six seasons and a movie” is finally becoming reality. Peacock has ordered a movie based on the Dan Harmon comedy “Community,” bringing back original stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong to check in on what the gang from Greendale has been up to since the show ended in 2015.
Without sharing specifics, Peacock and Sony Pictures TV, which jointly announced the greenlight on Friday, described the negotiations for Peacock to secure the movie as “heavily competitive.” As part of the deal, Peacock has also acquired non-exclusive rights to the full six-season “Community” library, which can also be found on Netflix and Hulu.
“Community” creator Harmon is behind the movie as executive producer and writer, along with Andrew Guest. McHale also serves as EP, as do Russ Krasnoff and Gary Foster.

Six seasons and a movie is finally real after NBCUniversal’s Peacock ordered a feature film closure for Community.
It’s a long time coming for the fan-favorite series, which ran for more than 100 episodes between 2009 and 2015.
The streaming service has ordered Community: The Movie from creator Dan Harmon. It will feature original series stars Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong. The NBCU digital platform won the rights in a competitive situation.
It comes a month after Harmon gave his most concrete answer to the question about when the movie is coming, revealing that it was a “matter of when.” It seems when is now.
Community, which was set in a community college in Colorado, originally launched on NBC, airing alongside series such as The Office, 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation. It ran for five seasons on the linear network before moving to Yahoo!

Of all the characters on "Community," Ken Jeong's Ben Chang changes the most. He's introduced in the second episode as the study group's Spanish professor and was quickly characterized as a rude and eccentric teacher. "I am a Spanish genius!" he screams at the class in his first ever scene with them. "My knowledge will bite her face off," he says, immediately after giving Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) a series of strange fake bites around her neck.
As season 1 goes by, it becomes clear that in addition to being a weird guy, Chang is also kind of bad at Spanish. He reveals to Jeff (Joel McHale) in the season's penultimate episode that he's a fraud, and when he's later fired it's revealed that the class is deeply behind on their curriculum. When a professor who's competent at her job takes over, it's only through divine intervention that the study group passes their final exam.
