Queer artists are oftentimes overlooked when it comes to prestigious awards. However, with the changing times, we are seeing queer artists get their due more often. Let’s dive into one queer artist’s path to Grammys: Sam Smith’s historic wins for Record and Song of the Year still hold up to this day.
Smith’s rise to fame began with famous features on both Disclosure’s “Latch” and Naught Boy’s “La La La.” After that Smith’s own singles started gaining traction in the UK, which eventually translated into American airplay. Off of their debut album, “In The Lonely Hour,” “Stay With Me” stood out as the biggest hit and reached number-two on the Billboard Hot 100. “Stay With Me” served to many as the year’s top ballad, especially in a year without any new song from Adele, who had had hit after hit in the years prior.

If the music streaming landscape were a horse race, Audius would be a multi-colored pigmy unicorn. The young blockchain-powered service may be hard to spot in the dust that trails stallions like Spotify and Apple Music, but it has been steadily making headway since its arrival in 2018. As “crypto” emerged as a pop culture buzz word in 2021, though, Audius grew significantly, rising from less than a million monthly active users in January to five million in August.

Syd has dropped a video for new song “Fast Car.” It’s her second solo single since 2017 following the release of “Missing Out” in February.
In the Ethan Nelson and Graham Epstein-directed clip, Syd and her paramour take a ride in a Bronco to go hiking. Things get steamy, not only from the temperature outside, but from the palpable chemistry between the two women. They’re humorously interrupted by a friend, but it doesn’t derail the couple’s passion.

Soccer fans have another reason to rejoice this week aside from the fact that we’re only days away from the world premiere of FIFA 21. Electronic Arts officially announced the long-anticipated soundtrack for the latest installment of its widely popular soccer video game series.
The official soundtrack, which can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer, features over 100 artists from 23 countries and blends grime, electronic, and hip-hop music. Grammy Award winner Dua Lipa, Brazilian pop star Anitta, Charli Xcx, Disclosure, and Stormzy are among the artists celebrating the world’s game this time around.
The Volta game mode soundtrack even includes a cameo from late American rapper Mac Miller, whose track “Blue World” comes from his posthumous album Circles. And there’s additional good news for Miller fans and those who play Volta: FIFA 21 gives players the option to listen to both soundtracks across all menus and modes.

It seems like no other outfit in electronic music has been featured on as many late night shows as Disclosure – and for good reason, as the Surrey, England duo has proven time and again that they’re just as impressive onstage as in the studio.
During their performances on Saturday Night Live this weekend, the brothers were joined by not only their two-time collaborator Sam Smith, but also world-famous singer/songwriter Lorde.
While their history with Sam Smith goes back to 2013’s crossover hit, “Latch,” they only recently teamed up with Lorde on “Magnets” – one of the songs from their sophomore album, Caracal. Smith’s performance of “Omen” with the duo can be seen in the video embedded above, and Lorde’s of “Magnets” in the one below:

The Host: Elizabeth Banks is just funny, full stop. She was the one of the best parts of 30 Rock when that show started to show its age, she kills it in Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, and, as she makes abundantly clear in her monologue, she’s a talented comedy director as well. She just plays well with others. Our host for tonight is Elizabeth Banks, aka not Donald Trump Thank God. In addition to not being a racist overgrown oompa loompa, Banks’s other credits include being the director, producer, and co-star of last summer’s Pitch Perfect 2, a key supporting actress in The Hunger Games franchise, a beloved guest star on shows from Scrubs to 30 Rock, and a generally very funny actress/director/producer. And now she can add first-time SNL host to the list! Cold Open: Cecily Strong delivers a heartfelt message on behalf of New York City to the people of Paris. This was a really classy move on SNL’s part, reminiscent of the warm way they handled their first episodes post-9/11. All in all a well-handled and somber start to the night. Monologue: Elizabeth Banks uses the skills she picked up from Pitch Perfect 2 to direct her own musical monologue performance of What a Feeling.

Disclosure and Sam Smith reunited last night to play their hit, “Latch” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Six months earlier, they performed the song on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” in their first Us TV appearance and before Fallon took over the "Tonight Show" spot. It's remarkable to see the difference in the ease with which Smith now appears before an audience. Like the “Fallon” performance, the “Kimmel” performance includes projections of white outlined animated faces, like the ones on Disclosure’s “Settle” album cover and other promotional materials, sang the song along with Smith. While the appearance is coming a bit late in “Latch’s” life span—the song has been on the Billboard Hot 100 for 19 weeks— the tune is still extremely popular: This week it returned to its previous peak, No. 7, on the Billboard Hot 100. Between Disclosure and Smith’s schedules, it probably took this long to get them...
