Popflex is one of the biggest brands to emerge from the brain of a YouTube creator—and founder Cassey Ho (aka Blogilates) is now shipping out more orders than ever, thanks to Taylor Swift.
Ho, who has nearly 10 million subscribers on YouTube, has been uploading fitness content to the platform since 2009, and in 2016 launched Popflex, her own line of activewear.
Now, Ho’s brand has gotten a new push of popularity after Swift wore the Popflex Pirouette Skort during a video released as part of the promotion for her new album, The Tortured Poets Department. In the video, Swift is briefly seen on a pickleball court, swinging a racket while wearing the lavender version of Ho’s skort.
That video debuted April 19, and the skort gets a total of about 3 seconds of onscreen time. Those 3 seconds were all it needed: Within 15 minutes of Swift’s vid going live, Popflex had...

Ecommerce is a multibillion-dollar enterprise in Asia, and YouTube is preparing a big move into that market. According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, the video platform’s first official live shopping hub will be a Korean-language channel that will offer deals from approximately 30 brands.
Yonhap describes the new channel as a 90-day experiment that will serve as YouTube’s first live shopping channel in any country. The participating brands will deliver live-streaming content that will utilize YouTube’s growing array of ecommerce tools. The “people familiar with the matter” cited by Yonhap claimed that the new channel is expected to launch on June 30.
YouTube was coy about its live shopping plans in the Far East. “We may experiment with a variety of YouTube Shopping features from time to time,” a representative for the company told Reuters.

YouTube‘s ecommerce push has hit a new milestone. In a blog post, the Google-owned platform revealed that more than 100,000 of its channels are now connected to external stores.
That six-digit figure includes channels affiliated with creators, artists, and brands. Popular video formats like clothing hauls and product unboxings have played pivotal roles in the growth of ecommerce on YouTube. “Because creators spend so much time familiarizing themselves with their fans and the products their audience cares about, creators are also leading a new wave of the shopping experience,” reads YouTube’s blog post.
The growth of shopping on YouTube can be partially attributed to the platform’s own efforts in the ecommerce space. YouTube has touted its in-house merch products by showcasing them on central hubs and featuring them in live-streaming events.

If artificial intelligence evangelists’ predictions pan out, generative AI systems like ChatGPT and Dall-e are set to transform Hollywood by developing and writing scripts for the next hit TV show, “diversifying” casts with AI-generated actors and generating imagery across multiple mediums, practically instantly, for a fraction of the cost of a real, human artist. But how long will it take for the vision to meet reality, and can a select group of companies — similar to the rise of Facebook and social media — be trusted to herald the way?
Driving much of the current conversation around AI innovation has been OpenAI, an AI research company with both non-profit and for-profit arms. Just four months after the formal launch of OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT, industry titans like Bill Gates were ready to hail artificial intelligence as the most revolutionary technology of our time since the advent of cell phones and the internet.

Sean Kim, the former head of product for TikTok’s U.S. operations, said the company’s $2 billion creator fund was not launched with the altruistic goal of helping creators monetize on the platform. Instead, according to the executive, TikTok created the fund as a “reactive measure” against competition like YouTube and Snap and as a way to keep creators engaged on the platform.
“Platforms don’t really care if you are successful at monetization. I’ll be completely honest,” Kim, who now leads the creator business platform Kajabi as president and chief product officer, said during a wide-ranging panel at SXSW over the weekend. “The reason why is because their metrics and north-star metrics are 100 percent focused on retention, [daily active users], publish rates, active days. Monetization of creators is not even on there. It’s like way, way, way down here. It’s like a little afterthought.”

A company that describes itself as the “best-kept secret” in the creator economy has passed a major milestone. Kajabi, a robust platform that lets users design and sell their own courses, has now paid out $5 billion since its inception.
Kajabi’s toolkit helps creators run marketing campaigns, utilize content templates, and engage with fans via Crm tools. The company’s most notable feature is its DIY course creation platform, which creators like Matt Steffanina and Cassey Ho have used to monetize their passions. In total, Kajabi counts 60,000 creators among its user base.
Though Kajabi’s history dates back more than a decade, much of its growth has occurred over the past three years. In 2020, it announced $1 billion in payouts. Since then, it has quintupled that figure. A big factor in Kajabi’s growth spurt has been its ability to support creators impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. For example, Steffanina turned...

It’s holiday season at YouTube, and inside one of the many sound stages at the video platform’s Los Angeles campus in Playa Vista, three creators have come together to promote beauty products on a set reminiscent of a cozy cabin in the woods. But unlike these YouTubers’ typical fare of edited beauty tutorials and lifestyle vlogs, this highly produced collaboration is being broadcast live for their thousands upon thousands of fans.
Branded as “From YouTube to You,” YouTube’s holiday shopping extravaganza was a year-end culmination of the company’s growing expansion into live shopping, a format that has taken off in international markets like the Asia-Pacific region, where the ecommerce industry is expected to hit 3.5 trillion this year.

The nominees for the 2022 Streamy Awards are here.
The annual award show will be held in person on December 4 after two straight years of socially-distanced celebration. Despite the change of scenery, the most-nominated creator is the same as last year. Jimmy ‘MrBeast‘ Donaldson is up for seven awards, while his friend and frequent collaborator Mark Rober will have a shot to earn six trophies.
Other creators with multiple nominations include ascendant Twitch star Kai Cenat, Blogilates host Cassey Ho, and the man who will host the 2022 Streamys: Eric ‘Airrack‘ Decker. The filmmaker, entrepreneur, and ping pong tournament director will try to become the first person to host the Streamys and win the coveted Creator of the Year trophy in the same year.
If Donaldson denies Decker that top prize, he’ll establish a milestone of his own by becoming the first person to win Creator of the Year three consecutive times.

Community, a text messaging-based platform favored by influencers, celebrities, and brands -- which opens up a new communication avenue with their fans -- has raised $40 million in funding from Salesforce Ventures, the software giant's investment arm.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Community has now raised $90 million to date from Twilio, Live Nation Entertainment, and the Sony Innovation Fund. The company plans to use the new funding to build new features and recruit new customers.
Community -- which launched in 2019 and is used by YouTubers like Larray, Dude Perfect, Cassey Ho, and Philip DeFranco, as well as the Obamas -- arms users with a phone number that their fans can text, and opt-in to receive messages, while providing personal information. Messages from influencers can then be deployed to the masses, or filtered to a subset of users based on provided age, location, or interests. They can also be sent on a one-to-one basis.

Cassey Ho, the early YouTube fitness guru known to fans as Blogilates, has launched a workout equipment collection at Target stores nationwide.
The so-called Blogilates Home Gym Collection marks Ho’s first national merchandise. The collection will also feature Ho’s signature design aesthetic, touting a celestial theme with gold, blush, and mint tones (pictured below). Cassey Ho is already a well-known personality on YouTube, where she teaches fitness and workout videos to more than 2.6 million subscribers on her channel Blogilates. Now, readers of Health Magazine will become familiar with Ho, as well (if they aren't already). The 28-year-old vlogger is featured on the cover of Health’s January/February issue, due out on Christmas Day 2015.
Ho, who’s also a serial entrepreneur and founder of brands like Pop Pilates and Bodypop, unsurprisingly looks fit and powerful on the cover of Health. But in an interview for the magazine’s winter issue, Ho reveals how she must constantly deal with the pressure to look good simply based on her choice of career and her constant video shoots. This pressure came to a head in April 2015, when the vlogger responded to body-shamers with a video in which she photoshops her body to perfection, but ends up disappointed with the fake results.

Ho invented her own pilates routine called Pop Pilates, which is taught nationwide in 24 Hr. Fitness gyms. Additionally, the YouTube star designs products for her online store, and launched a line of exercise clothing called Bodypop in August 2014.
