George Gilbey, a former Gogglebox star and Celebrity Big Brother contestant, has died after suffering a fall at work. He was 40.
Essex Police said it was called to a road near Southend-on-Sea yesterday after a report that a man working at a height had fallen, according to the BBC, and the Channel 4 Gogglebox X account confirmed that the person was Gilbey. An air ambulance attended and there is still a cordon at the scene, the BBC reported Essex Police had said.
C4 Gogglebox tweeted: “George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy.”
Gilbey’s step dad Peter McGarry, who joined him on the show, died in 2021 aged 71.

George Gilbey treated Edele Lynch to a family caravan holiday. The 'Gogglebox' actor had a ''little bit of a thing'' with the B*Witched singer when he was on 'Celebrity Big Brother' with her in 2014 and, although their relationship didn't work out, they have remained good friends since. He said: ''Edele and I had a little bit of a thing and we're good friends now. She came to visit once and we took her to this really nice caravan park. When we went to a ferryboat for some drinks, mum arranged for her to sing 'C'est La Vie' on karaoke. She didn't...

One of the nation's favourite Gogglebox families is returning to the show.
The Michaels - Andrew, Carolyne, Louis and Alex - left the Channel 4 series in December 2014 after dad Andrew decided to stand for Ukip in the General Election, and his political ambitions were deemed a conflict.
Gogglebox is coming back for series 6 and will hit screens in September
Speaking to the Radio Times, Andrew Michael - who failed in his attempt to win the Hastings and Rye seat - said: "Having seen 13 families in their natural habitat, you have an insight into British society in its multifarious colours."
After they left the show last year, a Channel 4 spokesperson described the family as "excellent contributors" and said they would be missed.
The Gilbey family also previously left the series in 2014 after son George Gilbey entered the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Stephanie Pratt has said that she's suffered "the worst betrayal" from her fellow Celebrity Big Brother housemates Edele Lynch and George Gilbey.
During Celebrity Big Brother's Bit On The Side, host Rylan Clark noted that Pratt looked as if she was "chewing a wasp" when talk turned to Lynch and Gilbey kissing under the sheets during the live final.
The Made in Chelsea star said: "I'm obviously a very bad judge of character. Edele's my best friend and so is George...
"I'm embarrassed for Edele because she has kids and she's just separated," she went on to say.
Gilbey then defended his relationship with the B*Witched singer, and said that Pratt regarded him "as a brother".
Pratt responded: "I actually said I love you as a friend, you said 'I love you' and we'd see in five years. The night I left, you got into Edele's bed.

The next person to give a toast was White Dee, who chose to direct her comments towards Gary Busey - or, as she put it, "Big Man Mr Busey".
"I'd only ever seen you on the big screen, while watching my movies," She said. "Very starstruck when I came in. It's a pleasure to sit and talk to you and listen to you and learn from you. You're an absolute font of all knowledge.

Whatever George Gilbey puts in his aftershave, we want some.
The Gogglebox star is at it again, it seems, as he was seen getting extremely cosy under the sheets with Edele Lynch last night (September 11).
"You haven't over seasoned yourself," Edele cooed to George in reference to his mystery love potion.
"I have a little bit. Am I still smelling?" he asked. She replied: "Could be worse. I'm not choking."
The pair then enjoyed a kiss under the covers, as George joked: "We're behind the bike sheds!"
After Dee asked them to keep quiet, George responded: "Your favourite son is about to lose his virginity, you keep quiet!"
George has already enjoyed a mini-romance with Made in Chelsea star Stephanie Pratt during his time in the house.
Celebrity Big Brother concludes this evening (September 12) at 9pm on Channel 5, as George, Edele, Gary Busey, White Dee, James Jordan and Audley Harrison battle it out.

Celebrity Big Brother housemate Gary Busey offended White Dee by exposing himself yesterday (September 7).

Attempting to rearrange his leg brace, Gary pulled down his trousers, revealing no underwear. He then sat down on a chair.
James reacted with shock, while Dee was particularly annoyed by what was happening and asked James to sort it out.
George remarked: "What can you do? I'm not a professional. I don't know how to deal with that situation."
Gary tried to explain that his knee had to be fixed, but James responded: "I wear underpants. I don't sit on chairs with my bare bottom.
"That's not right, Gary. And there's ladies in here who shouldn't see your c**k and balls."
Gary shot back: "You exaggerate so much that a therapist would have a ball with you.

The BAFTA-winning show will launch its 12-part fourth series on Friday, September 26 at 9pm.
The new series will feature most of the same families and friends from previous runs, along with some new additions to be announced at a later date.
Earlier this week, Gogglebox stars Sandy and Sandra were unexpectedly mobbed by fans at a North London outdoor cinema.
The pair were set to watch a screening of Grease when they were surprisingly met by the audience wearing Gogglebox masks.
Sandy said: "It was really surreal to be walking down the cinema aisle seeing all the Gogglebox faces looking back at us. I loved it."
Sandra added: "It was so much fun to see all the Gogglebox masks, I loved my own so much and wish I could live in it!"

Celebrity Big Brother housemate Gary Busey was the centre of yet more arguments yesterday (September 3).
The actor began the day well, telling Big Brother in the Diary Room that he felt "exceptional, wonderful, together, balanced, even" and that it is "wonderful to be where I am now, within myself of truth".
Gary even revealed that he wasn't concerned about being evicted, saying: "If I'm not evicted, it will just go on. And if I'm evicted, I won't really be evicted because my heart and soul will be in the Big Brother house. Big Brother will be in my heart forever and I'm just the messenger of hope, truth and love."
However, some of the housemates were talking less positively about Gary, as Kellie Maloney suggested that he was "playing" all of the housemates and noted: "Days before the eviction and when the cameras are on, he comes to life... he's a born actor.

Celebrity Big Brother will test George Gilbey's affection for Stephanie Pratt in today's task.
The couple have grown close during their time in the house, but Big Brother now wants to know just how far George will go for his love interest.
Stephanie will be given an earpiece for today's secret mission and Big Brother will speak to her, giving her a series of "unpleasant and undesirable" tasks to carry out.
If Stephanie can convince George to complete the miserable missions - without him realising that something is afoot - then she will pass the task.
Some of the housemates have previously questioned the relationship between Stephanie and George, with Frenchy announcing recently: "I can tell it's not real!"
Celebrity Big Brother continues tonight (September 3) with an eviction at 9pm on Channel 5.

Celebrity Big Brother housemate Lauren Goodger was accused of leading Ricci Guarnaccio on in the house yesterday (September 1).
The duo have had a confusing relationship so far this series, while Ricci expressed concerns earlier this week that Lauren is "playing games".
Lauren woke up yesterday feeling the effects of the night before - when she got drunk and exposed her breast in the pool - and Edele Lynch advised her that Ricci had been trying to look after her.
However, Lauren's drunken behaviour was the talk of the house as James Jordan revealed: "She tried to jump into bed with me last night in her G-string and I was f**king straight out of the door."
Gary Busey wanted to know if James had "had a chance with Lauren", but James told Lauren about her wardrobe malfunction as George Gilbey said: "Don't worry, Lauren, you've got lovely tits."

Celebrity Big Brother housemate Frenchy caused a stir yesterday when she decided to sunbathe topless.
The model stripped off in the garden - but not all of her fellow celebrities were happy about it.
"When she turns over, I might be sick," George Gilbey complained. "I'd rather see your bells, Dee!"
When Frenchy did indeed turn onto her back, James Jordan remarked that the weather was a bit "nippy" - which Dee couldn't resist changing to "a bit nipply".
However, Frenchy wasn't the only one to expose her breasts yesterday, as Lauren Goodger suffered a wardrobe malfunction while enjoying herself in the pool.
Despite warnings from Ricci Guarnaccio about her swimming costume, the former Towie star couldn't resist jumping in the pool - with eye-opening results.
Ricci appeared unimpressed with the turn of events, choosing to leave the garden as Lauren spotted his bad mood and said: "Okay then.

Celebrity Big Brother housemate Frenchy launched a scathing attack on Ricci Guarnaccio and Lauren Goodger in the Diary Room yesterday.
The model, who had an argument with Lauren over the weekend, told Big Brother that she thinks of Ricci as a "dead fish".
"He's boring," she said, explaining that he's only interesting when he's had a drink. "He doesn't have a personality."
Frenchy also set her sights on Lauren, complaining that she always tells the same story.
"Change the record, it gets really boring," she said. "[Lauren] doesn't have confidence and constantly needs me to reassure her... after a while it gets boring.
"She's a gorgeous girl, she's beautiful and very well-spoken, but personality-wise, I don't have anything in common with her."
Frenchy continued to cause controversy with her housemates later in the day, as she chose to sunbathe topless in the garden.

Celebrity Big Brother housemate James Jordan was called out by fellow contestants for being "shady" yesterday (August 31).
The professional dancer, who has been the centre of controversy on several occasions, began by stirring up a conversation between George Gilbey and Gary Busey.
Gary had advised George not to be nervous and that speaking over people was a bad habit, while George replied that Gary has his own bad habits.
When Gary replied that he is "fixing them" and has "done a lot", George explained that he was only joking.
However, James - who had previously scolded Gary for spilling coffee on the stairs - then joined the conversation and said: "No, he wasn't Gary, he was well out of order... That's nasty, that is."
The conversation then escalated as George heard Gary whispering about him, and shouted: "I think you're being rude and I think you should shush!"

The latest Celebrity Big Brother task has concluded.
The house was split into two groups, with James Jordan and Audley Harrison made team captains.
James and Audley were then confined to a perspex dome where they had access to only water. The captains were told that the housemate who lasted longest in the dome would win luxury for their team and immunity from the next eviction.
Big Brother tried to tempt the pair out of the dome by offering them a phone call with their wives but both housemates resisted.
As James and Audley both displayed stoicism in not leaving the dome, they were both awarded immunity from eviction and both teams enjoyed a luxurious evening in which they were served their favourite meals.
However, George Gilbey and Stephanie Pratt were excluded from the evening of luxury for speaking about nominations and were both sent to the dome for the evening.

Celebrity Big Brother star Angélique "Frenchy" Morgan has claimed that she believes any potential romance between George Gilbey and Stephanie Pratt is fake.
The outspoken housemate poured scorn on the pair's relationship in the Diary Room, following a candid conversation with George.

George then decided to seek Stephanie's view, asking the Made In Chelsea star what she thought of Frenchy's thoughts. Responding, she told George: "That's why I love you." The pair then hugged before Stephanie went to bed.
Further discussing a potential relationship with her, George explained to James Jordan that he did not feel it would work as he would worry about getting "f**ked over".

Kellie Maloney has clashed with fellow Celebrity Big Brother housemates Stephanie Pratt and James Jordan.
The latest house drama occurred during a task as Leslie Jordan became a ventriloquist who had to speak for Stephanie.

Stephanie later contfronted Kellie about the incident. After accusing her of "sh*t-stirring", the Made In Chelsea star remarked: "Frank is back."

It's the day after Ricci Guarnaccio confessed his feelings to Lauren Goodger, and the Celebrity Big Brother house is full of chatter about the potential relationship.
In the garden, David McIntosh asks Ricci whether he would be as attracted to Lauren in the outside world, to which Ricci replies: "I really like her". David then advises Ricci to "take a step back", and not overwhelm her with his feelings.
Elsewhere in the house, Edele Lynch and Lauren discuss Ricci, with the former B*Witched singer telling Lauren that Ricci likes her "like that".
Despite feeling embarrassed, Lauren admits that it's "nice when someone likes you…it's quite cute".
Edele comments that it's hard to form a relationship when there's pressure involved and suggests they could get together over time.
As Lauren and Ricci continue their will they/won't they relationship, it seems they could have competition in the form of George Gilbey and Stephanie Pratt.

Fear is the name of the game in the latest Celebrity Big Brother task.
Housemates will come face to face with various phobias, but must resist pressing the panic button if they are to win the task.
What they don't know, however, is that the real task lies in the hands of Gary Busey, who must convince the others he has a huge phobia of balloons before entering a room full of them.
If housemates take pity on Gary and press the panic button on his behalf, the group will win a luxury shopping budget.
As part of the fake task, Stephanie Pratt will face the fear of smells (osmophobia) by entering a room with a perspex box full of smelly socks, raw fish, mouldy food and live flies.
Stephanie will need to move closer to the box and eventually end up inside it to pass the task.

The family of George Gilbey have confirmed they will not be appearing on the next series of Gogglebox.
Gilbey, his mum Linda and stepdad Pete have been axed following George's appearance on Channel 5 show Celebrity Big Brother.
It is true that we won't be on the next series of Gogglebox. We had a lovely time filming with them and wish the cast and crew lots of luck
— Essex Family Gb (@EssexfamilyGB) August 23, 2014
The family confirmed the news on Twitter, while Gogglebox producer Chantal Boyle told The Mirror that the Gilbeys were told in advance about their possible departure.
"It's all about money," Boyle continued. "They are pretty cash-strapped and so you can see why they would accept the offer to go on Big Brother."
"But we can't have them in the new series of Gogglebox," Boyle added, claiming that it simply "wouldn't work".

One of our favourite things about Celebrity Big Brother launch night is not just seeing which famous people will be going into the house - but which celebrities have turned up to support them! In fact, the housemates have it easy compared to their friends and family, who have to shiver their little behinds off and hang around with the baying mob in Borehamwood for hours on end.
Well, we thought we'd give them their due by rounding up the famous people we saw filling out the launch night crowd - here's who we spotted...
Ola Jordan off Strictly
It was kind of a given that Ola Jordan would show up to cheer her husband James Jordan into the house. Mind you, she might wish she hadn't bothered after he said he basically got married to avoid cooking.
Linda & Pete off Gogglebox
We love Linda and Pete! They were there...

Little after Helen Wood bagged the Big Brother crown, celebrities have crammed in for their share of the limelight.
But with the likes of White Dee, Lauren Goodger and Gogglebox's George Gilbey, was Celebrity Big Brother's opening enough to keep you watching or was it a complete turn off?
Digital Spy rounds-up some of the funniest reactions to CBB on its launch night:
They're leaving it a bit late to get me to go on Celebrity Big Brother this year. 30 mins to go and I still haven't had the call #bagspacked
— Katie Weasel (@KatieWeasel) August 18, 2014
Breaking News: a bomb has just gone off in the Celebrity Big Brother house, killing all housemates. No celebrities were injured.

I hate celebrity big brother. I hate big brother. But since White Dee is in it I have to see if bras have been purchased for the occasion.

Celebrity Big Brother kicked off tonight (August 18) as 14 new housemates took up residence.
Benefits Street's White Dee, boxing legend Kellie Maloney and The Only Way Is Essex's Lauren Goodger were among the stars who entered the house.
Dee - real name Deirdre Kelly - was the first housemate to enter, and received a mixed reaction from the crowd. She was soon joined by former Strictly Come Dancing professional James Jordan, who cracked open the champagne soon after walking through the door.
Former Emmerdale star Claire King and Kelly Brook's fiancé David McIntosh followed, before Dee was called to the Diary Room by Big Brother.
She was informed that she had been selected for the first secret mission of the series, and would be transformed into the Duchess of Solihull. She must convince the final three housemates, all from the Us, that she is 21st in line to the throne.

We're not quite sure we're ready for this. We've only just recovered from Helen Wood's Big Brother win, but that's old news now - because 14 famous faces made their way into the Celebrity Big Brother house tonight! But who are they? Read on for everything you need to know about the bungalow's brand new residents...
Angelique 'Frenchy' Morgan
So who is she? Angelique is a model, exotic dancer and, er, 'adult film star'.
What do I need to know? Angelique is nicknamed Frenchy, presumably because she was raised in Paris. She's probably the star who'll get the most 'who?' comments, but if you want to know your stuff, she landed appearances on the Howard Stern Show after being on Playboy TV. Since then, she's been on reality shows Rock of Love, Charm School and I Love Money - oh, and some of you might be pretending you...

The summer isn't quite over yet. Before you pack away your suncream and start your Christmas shopping, there's still time for one more series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014.

But who is going in? We've gathered up the 17 latest rumoured housemates who may (or may not) be making a new home on Channel 5.
1. Helen Flanagan
It's a reality show. Bears still poop in the woods. Helen Flanagan is being tipped to take part by red top newspapers.
2. Lettice Rowbotham
