Let's Talk About Bombastic Bag Man, The Deepest Cut In The Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Trailer
Just about a year after the first look teaser dropped, Sony has finally released a proper trailer for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." As expected, the latest preview for the highly-anticipated follow-up to the 2018 sensation "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" features a ton of Spideys that are sure to be recognizable to many True Believers out there. But out of the numerous spider-themed heroes both highlighted and hiding in the background, one, in particular, stood out each time he appeared onscreen. Of course, we're talking about the Bombastic Bag-Man!
Though his suit is slightly different that the version we're used to from the pages of Marvel Comics, it's impossible to mistake this incarnation of the friendly neighborhood web-slinger. I mean, it's hard to miss Spider-Man wearing a paper bag over his head. However, despite the fact that this version of the fan-favorite character is often played for laughs, Peter Parker's Bag-Man Spidersona...

Gina Prince-Bythewood made her name making tremendous dramas that I feel never got the proper respect that they deserved. Partly, this is due to the fact that she makes movies about women, which generally don't get as much respect as they should. Partly, it's because her best work were romances, such as "Love & Basketball" and "Beyond the Lights," a genre that has rarely gotten its proper due since the turn of the 21st century. These romances were also connected to the worlds of women's basketball and pop music, respectively, which many see as trivial.
This was not the lane Prince-Bythewood always saw herself in, though. At the heart of these films is classic Hollywood entertainment, and she looked to bring that to the action genre as well. She had signed up to make "Silver & Black" for Marvel and Sony, which would have been a film about Silver Sable and...

Despite the fact that Sony has decided to confound us all by building a cinematic universe of their own comprised of Spider-Man’s supporting characters that doesn’t seem to actually be inhabited by the icon himself, it’s very hard not to look forward to a movie starring Black Cat and Silver Sable, even if it could use a better title than Silver & Black. Well, the film is bound to have more than a few detractors, regardless, but you can’t help being the slightest bit curious.
That being said, it looks like the studio won’t waste much time broadening this strange universe after Venom hits theaters on October 5, 2018. As it turns out, Felicia Hardy and Silver Sablinova (yes, one of the titular characters’ names is actually that uninspired) will storm multiplexes on February 8, 2019 in what is already being called Marvel’s answer to Thelma & Louise.

As production continues on Sony’s Venom, more plot details are leaking out about the symbiote’s first solo outing. Star Tom Hardy recently confirmed that the movie is based off the 1993 Lethal Protector comic book storyline, as has been rumoured for some time, and now, a second inspiration has been revealed via the film’s director, Ruben Fleischer.
Speaking at the Comic-Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Fleischer announced that Venom would not only draw elements from Lethal Protector but also the lesser-known story arc Planet of the Symbiotes. Published in 1995, the original plot sees Eddie Brock team up with former enemy Spider-Man and Peter Parker’s clone Scarlet Spider to find the true killer of a spate of symbiote-related murders that have framed Venom. It’s revealed that the five other symbiotes from Lethal Protector are responsible and the story’s big climax involves the symbiotes building a teleport to their home world,...

While in recent years we’ve seen plenty of crossover between the film and television worlds, there have been a number of film directors whose engagement with this quasi-new medium has been truly groundbreaking, as they’ve found TV to be a far more creatively satisfying place than film. Thus, while they still may actively work in film from time to time, their TV efforts have proved unforgettable.
For the record, because we limited this to the 21st century, directors Nicole Holocenfer, Mimi Leder, David Lynch, and Tommy Schlamme were ineligible. But their accomplishments cannot be undersold.
Susanne Bier
Oscar winner Susanne Bier made her American television debut with the stylish and sexy John le Carré miniseries “The Night Manager.” Unlike Tomas Alfredson’s barren aesthetic for the Carré film “Tinker Tailor Solider Spy,” Bier opted instead to bring a golden-hued sensuality to nearly every frame of her Carré vision.

Morbius is the latest Spider-Man villain to line up a solo spin-off movie. Here are the basics about the character...
Long-time followers of the comic book movie news cycle will know that Spider-Man spin-off announcements are a fairly common occurrence. While The Amazing Spider-Man franchise was still going, fans were told to expect films focused on everything from the Sinister Six to Peter Parker’s Aunt May. Talk of a Venom-centric movie bubbled away for years, as well.
However, until Sony made a deal with Marvel Studios to share the Spider-Man licence, resulting in the iconic web-slinger’s indoctrination into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony’s spin-off ideas seemed to be just that: ideas, which never actually happened.

The Sony Spider-Verse/Spiderless-Verse is adding another blood sucking film to the slate.
Venom is underway over at Fox with Tom Hardy set to play the iconic Anti-Hero, and Black Cat and Silver Sable is in the pipeline to get running at some point. Both films are set to take place in a Spider-Man-Less universe, or maybe Tom Hollond’s Wallcrawler might show, to be honest we have no idea. What we do know is that they are full steam ahead on their Spider-Man characters. Now we have our 3rd character getting his own stand alone. Morbius The Living Vampire.
Not including Blade, I would have to say that Morbius is the most famous Marvel Vampire, so I guess it makes sense to make a film centered on him. Besides those Twilight films did pretty well, right? The news on the film comes from THR, who reports that Power Rangers...

Following Venom and Silver & Black, Sony is working on a Morbius Spider-Man spin-off film...
Venom is currently filming with Tom Hardy in the lead role, kickstarting a long-mooted spin-off universe of Spider-Man characters that Sony wants to bring to the big screen. Following Venom, Silver And Black is set for cinemas in 2019, focusing on Black Cat and Silver Sable. And now we learn that Morbius is getting a movie too.
Debuting in Amazing Spider-Man issue 101, Morbius The Living Vampire is Dr Michael Morbius, a scientist who tries to cure his rare blood disease. It doesn’t go to plan, and instead, he gets fans, super-strength, and a thirsting for blood.
Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama – who penned the Power Rangers and Dracula Untold screenplays – have delivered a script to the studio for the project already. They’ve been working on the project on the quiet.

Of all the supporting characters in Spider-Man stories, Morbius, The Living Vampire is certainly one of them. He’s not as iconic or memorable as Venom, he’s not a core cast member like Mary Jane or even J. Jonah Jameson, and he’s not even a regular guest star like Silver Sable or Black Cat. Sony Pictures is adding another Marvel movie to their slate of films that revolve around characters from the world of Spider-Man. Outside of the Spider-Man films that they are making with Marvel, Sony is developing a Venom film and a Silver Sable and Black Cat movie.
THR is now reporting that they are developing yet another spinoff based on Morbius The Living Vampire! According to the report, the movie will be called Morbius and it was written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who previously worked on the recent Power Rangers movie. Apparently, they just submitted the script to the studio.
I love the character Morbius and it's cool that Sony is looking at making a movie based on the character. What's not cool is that the script is coming from the same guys who wrote Power Rangers. The script for that film was terrible. Hopefully, they at least get a good director attached!

Freakin Defenders comic is amazing. Fantastic art, with some spread pages that just boggle the mind! Not to mention a storyline that beats Netflix to the ground. Every issue I read, I think to myself, is this something I need to get every week, and then the answer is always Yes!

So, in the last issue, Black Cat was shot. Yeah, it was one of those, is she dead kind of shots too. Good news? She's not dead. Bad news? She's hospitalized in a city where a large majority of players want her dead.
Going into this issue I was worried because the cover features a Deadpool jumping out of the front. I love Deadpool... sometimes. When he's written well. Other...

Not that I'm bashing on the Netflix series, the comics have just been that good. And recently, the comics just kicked it up a notch by having the big bad of the series take down a major player in the comics.
Black Cat has recently gone through some tough times. When Doc Ock became Spider-Man for about a year, he kind of turned on her. Sony Pictures' Silver and Black movie looks like it wants to include a lot more of the Marvel Universe. Recently there has been a report from the Hashtag Show saying that the whole Wild Pack will be in the film!
Crazy, right? I mean who can forget the Wild Pack. Ok, for those who don't know, the Wild Pack is a group of mercenaries put together by Silver Sable's father to fight Nazi's. They have been reformed many times, with Sand-Man being in one incarnation of the group even. There was a rumor that possibly one or two of them would be in the new Silver and Black movie, but now it has been revealed that the whole team will be hired to hunt down Black Cat.
It also has been revealed that the main villain of the movie could end up being Mendell Stromm, with some influence of Norman Osborne in the film.

Earlier this year saw the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming. The film was a collaboration between Sony and Marvel Studios, and after Sony sort of screwed the pooch with their Amazing Spider-Man series — in that they made the films for too much money and tried to build their universe too much — they opted to allow Marvel Studios to utilize their character.
If the quality of Spider-Man: Homecoming is anything to go off of, they certainly made the right move in working with Marvel Studios. However, that’s not to say that they’re content to play second fiddle to the other studio. Prior to the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, they let their intentions be known that they still plan on going forward with a spinoff of certain characters — namely Venom, Silver Sable, and Black Cat.

For instance, despite some back-and-forth on the matter, both Sony and Marvel Studios have gone on record to confirm that neither film is directly connected to the McU, and will instead help launch a Marvel Universe that exists on a separate track.
It makes a lot of sense from a logistics standpoint, as it lends Sony the necessary creative freedom to pursue its own interconnected superhero franchise, with early reports claiming Riz Ahmed’s unidentified Venom character may also crop up in Silver and Black. He’s by no means the first actor to be linked with the spinoff (see: Spider-Man: Homecoming...

It’s Black Cat Appreciation Day, an important moment to remember that these felines can bring a lot of good luck and love into your home.
Due to centuries of superstitions and unfounded prejudice, black cats are often associated with bad omens, not the positive fluffy feelings that are usually associated with cute kitties. For years, shelters have been fighting this stigma in order to find black cats, who are often passed over for adoption, forever homes.

Thursday is Black Cat Appreciation Day, which is aimed at correcting the centuries-long string of bad publicity that black cats have had to endure, as well as celebrating them for the fantastic felines they truly are.

Now that arguably most of the major heroes from both the Marvel and DC universes have been brought to the big screen, movie studios are starting to turn to those less squeaky-clean comic book characters when looking for properties to build a film around.
DC has already given us Suicide Squad, and is planning to follow it up with Gotham City Sirens and a Deadshot spinoff, too. Likewise, Dwayne Johnson is eschewing the Shazam movie for his own solo vehicle as Black Adam. Sony’s Spider-Man universe, meanwhile, is being exclusively built around villains and anti-heroes. Venom, Silver Sable and Black Cat are definitely getting starring roles, with rumours stating that the likes of Kraven and Mysterio could be next for the solo treatment, too.

Silver & Black will be Sony's second film in their own Spider-Man Universe, following Venom, which has a release date of October 5, 2018. Silver & Black will follow the classic Spider-Man allies Silver Sable and Black Cat in their own adventure. Lisa Joy (Westworld) and Chris Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) have both worked on the screenplay, which will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Secret Life of Bees, Beyond the Lights). That's all we really know for sure about the film, save for the release date, which has just come to light.
Exhibitor Relations tweeted the release date of Silver & Black, set for February 8, 2019, almost exactly four months after Venom.

Sony’s Marvel Universe is beginning to come together at a brisk clip.
With talk of standalone pics for Kraven and Mysterio, not to mention a spinoff based on Silver Sable and Black Cat from director Gina Prince-Bythewood (Beyond the Lights), the studio has made serious headway on its own Spidey universe in recent weeks, and it all begins with the launch of Ruben Fleischer’s Venom next October. Filming is expected to commence this fall, when Tom Hardy (Dunkirk) will be wrestling with that titular alien symbiote.
He won’t be alone, either, as earlier this week we heard that Riz Ahmed had come into contention to play a “major Marvel character” in the 2018 spinoff. First reported by The Tracking Board, it was initially believed that he had tested for the role of the Chameleon, as Sony Pictures began casting its net in search of Venom‘s primary antagonist.

As it turns out, Exhibitor Relations states that Felicia Hardy and Silver Sablinova (yes, one of the titular characters’ names is actually that uninspired) will storm multiplexes on February 8, 2019 in what is already being called Marvel’s answer to Thelma & Louise.

Sony continues to shore up plans for its Spider-Man-free Spider-Man Cinematic Universe, announcing today that it’s set a title and release date for the previously announced Black Cat/Silver Sable movie. Silver And Black—combining two of Spidey’s amazing friends (and their shared interests in kicking butt while wearing anatomically improbable skin-tight body suits)—will arrive in theaters on February 8, 2019. The studio’s Venom movie, meanwhile, is set for October 5, 2018; neither film is expected to feature Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
Silver And Black is being directed by Love & Basketball director Gina Prince-Bythewood, who’s also reportedly involved with Freeform’s Cloak And Dagger series. The film will track the adventures of cat burglar Felicia Hardy (a.k.a. The Black Cat), and foreign mercenary Silver Sable (whose real name is “Silver Sablinova,” because sometimes comic books are kind of great).

Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off, Venom, is preparing to add another up-and-coming name to its roster; according to The Hollywood Reporter, Rogue One co-star Riz Ahmed is in talks to appear opposite Tom Hardy, who’s playing the titular symbiote. There’s no word yet on who Ahmed would play in the movie, although he won’t be Carnage, the film’s already-announced villain.
Sony is trying to carve out its own little mini-cinematic universe with its Spider-Man-adjacent properties, with Venom and a Black Cat and Silver Sable film in the works. Ahmed, meanwhile, continues to make a name for himself; last year, he appeared in the Star Wars spin-off, plus, HBO’s The Night Of, after eye-catching supporting turns in previous years in films like Nightcrawler and Chris Morris’ cult classic terrorism comedy Four Lions.

Sony isn’t a studio content with playing second fiddle to Marvel Studios. Sure, Marvel Studios may have all the cards in terms of the established universe, but Sony has its stable of heroes and villains within the Spider-Man pocket universe of the Marvel world. Why not utilize them? So despite Spider-Man: Homecoming having just hit theaters, Sony has been hard at work with the Tom Hardy-starring Venom flick, as well as the team-up film Silver and Black, which follows characters Silver Sable and Black Cat.
But what will the film actually be about? ThatHashtagShow had the details, and it’s a lot to take in.
For starters, according to the outlet, the film’s primary protagonist will be Silver Sable. She has a personal vendetta against the movie’s main villain Mendel Stromm, who has performed experiments on the Symkarian people — who hail from the fictional kingdom of Symkaria in eastern Europe.

With the exception of Ruben Fleischer and Tom Hardy’s Venom, which is reportedly eyeing a production start across parts of New York and Atlanta in September, the only other Spider-Man spinoff to take flight at Sony Pictures (that we know of) is the long-rumored Silver and Black movie.

First things first: these allegations are yet to be confirmed, so file them in the rumor cabinet for now.

Luck or probability manipulation is probably one of my favorite powers to have. My favorite heroes in comics often have these powers, like Longshot, Domino, and Black Cat. However, they aren't exactly an easy power to describe or to make rules for. If your power is that you're lucky, then what are its limits. This is something David Leitch, director of Deadpool 2, has had to figure out himself.
In a recent interview, Leitch talked about how excited he was to have Domino in the film as well as Zazie Beetz playing the character. One of the biggest struggles is showing that her power is, in fact, causing things to happen. Leitch described how they would visualize the powers, saying:
"We're having fun with her power, because when you really distill it, it's the laws of probability. I think there's a lot of ways to go with it, and I...

Superhero movies have become so popular nowadays that they are starting to become sub-genres of them. Ant-Man was a superhero movie, but it was also a heist movie. Spider-Man: Homecoming was a superhero movie, but it was a coming of age high school movie as well. Sony is now looking to focus on particular elements as well with their upcoming Marvel properties, and it could be a good direction for them.
Directors Gina Prince-Bythewood and Ruben Fleischer have recently talked to the media confirming the style and plot elements they want to share in their films. With the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Homecoming being just days away, the folks at Screen Junkies have decided to journey all the way back to 2014 to reminisce on the wallcrawler’s last solo outing. Come to think of it, it seems so weird talking about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in this context given that the character is being rebooted for the big screen yet again, but at least he’s in the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, right? And we wonder why the average moviegoer gets headaches because of this stuff.
Truth be told, I didn’t hate Marc Webb’s second effort as much as everyone else did. Sure, it was incredibly bloated (as I’ll get to in a moment), but I was able to digest it far easier than any of the films directed by Sam Raimi, which I can take about as seriously as any of Joel Schumacher’s Batman flicks.
