Philip Quast and Hermione Norris in ‘Between Two Worlds’.
After creating five of Australia’s most popular dramas – Always Greener, All Saints, Packed to the Rafters, Winners & Losers and A Place to Call Home – in a stellar 37-year career, Bevan Lee felt he had reached a crossroad.
If he followed one path, he would simply rest on his laurels and be content with his legacy. The other, far more attractive and challenging option: Create a drama unlike anything he’d ever done and which breaks the traditional rules of the genre.
Hence was born Between Two Worlds, a 10-part Seven Studios production which premieres on Seven on Sunday.
The first episode depicts two disparate and seemingly disconnected worlds, typified by one family of extreme wealth and privilege, the other middleclass and suburban.
“I decided I wanted to do a twisty, turny narrative which breaks the rules,” says Lee, who created the show last year,...

Fox’s ‘Ultimate Tag’ (Photo credit: Fox).
The Seven Network has commissioned a local version of the hit US show Ultimate Tag, which sees competitors vault, dodge, tumble and dive their way through several courses while being chased by resident taggers.
Endemol Shine Australia will produce the series based on the format created by Znak & Co. In the US, Ultimate Tag’s launch on Fox last May marked the highest-rated unscripted summer debut in three years.
As competitors progress they are challenged to take on even more extreme courses to earn a place in the end game where both a male and female champion will be crowned winners. The “huge” cash prize has not been revealed.
Seven’s Network programming director Angus Ross said: “We’re excited to be partnering with Endemol Shine Australia to bring Ultimate Tag, a dynamic new format, to Australia next year.

Beverley McGarvey, Angus Ross and Michael Healy.
For Australia’s commercial free-to-air networks, arguably the biggest threat to losing eyeballs is not each other but the seemingly inexorable rise of streaming services led by Netflix, Stan, Disney+ and Amazon.
However executives at the Seven, Nine and 10 Networks are confident their hefty investment in broad slates of unique Australian programming and their increasingly popular BVoD services will retain viewers.
“The 8.30 pm-9 pm drama audiences are certainly under attack from streaming competition,” Angus Ross, Seven’s director of network programming, tells If.
“We concentrate investment in news, sport, Home and Away and year-round 7.30 pm stripped programming – all uniquely Australian content that differentiates us from the offerings of the SVoD players. All programming is also available on our 7plus service, so viewers can watch at any time.”
Michael Healy, Nine Entertainment’s director of television, says: “Australian content is at our heart and...

It is understood that Seven Studios CEO Therese Hegarty and Seven director of network programming Angus Ross will report to the newly-created position, which has yet to be filled.
Warburton made an internal announcement to staff today outlining his initial restructure which will see the CEO’s direct reports reduced from 17 executives to eight.
Warburton said in a statement: “With the new organisational structure, we have focused on simplifying the Swm (Seven West Media) organisation to enable our content led growth strategy. This new flatter structure will cement our position as Australia’s leading media group with content at the heart of the business, digital growth maximised, duplication of roles removed in all areas and operating efficiencies implemented.”

Nine's 'True Story with Hamish and Andy'..
At the half-way point of the 2017 ratings year, the Seven, Nine and Ten networks all have something to crow about, and Australian-made dramas and reality shows continue to dominate.
Seven.s primary channel has won the prime-time ratings battle for 24 consecutive weeks, ranks at .No. 1 in total viewers and in the 16-39, 18-49s and 25-54 demographics, and has the year's top show, My Kitchen Rules.
Nine.s boast is that it is the only commercial network to grow its 6 pm-midnight share across total people and all demos for weeks 7 to 26, excluding Easter, while Seven and Ten have lost shares on those metrics.
Despite its corporate problems, Ten says it delivered three of the top seven Australian reality shows among 25 to 54s, the top three game/quiz shows and the top four Us drama series.
