Bloody Disgusting has been provided with a first look snippet from the upcoming indie genre movie Spirit Riser this afternoon, giving us a taste of a completely unrecognizable Whitney Moore as the film’s “Man from the Dark and Lonely Place.”
Directed by Dylan Mars Greenberg, Spirit Riser is said to be a “genre-bending fantasy with elements of horror, comedy, action, surrealism, and martial arts.”
Check out the exclusive first look clip below.
Spirit Riser features a cast that also includes Lynn Lowry, Amanda Flowers, and Kansas Bowling. And the film is narrated by Michael Madsen (The Hateful Eight).
The press release previews, “Under the skilled hands of makeup experts Edwin Monzon and Cici Andersen, Moore underwent a radical transformation using prosthetics that turned her into the terrifying, gaunt-faced male character central to the film’s enigmatic narrative.”

Speedy Ortiz have returned with “Plus One,” the latest single off their forthcoming album Rabbit Rabbit. The band also announced a number of additional dates for their 2023 tour.
A high-energy waltz taking cues from the “Texan post-hardcore” that bandleader Sadie Dupuis loved as a teen, “Plus One” tackles the topic of trauma through a personal lens. The song was co-produced by Illuminati Hotties’ Sarah Tudzin and blends Dupuis’ resonant lyrics with a tom-driven drum beat, layers of fuzzy guitars, and shiny, double-tracked vocals.
The single also arrived with a music video directed by Dylan Mars Greenberg. Inspired by campy, monster horror movies, the video depicts a “giant” rabbit on a Godzilla-esque rampage destroying the Earth. Watch the video below.
Speaking of the song’s meaning in a statement, Dupuis revealed that she began exploring new songwriting topics in the downtime that the Covid-19 pandemic afforded her. “I found myself ruminating...

The second 80s horror-inspired movie I have seen in as many days but this one with a much worse title. Evil Everywhere is about as bland and boring title you could come up with for a horror movie. But as the saying goes, “don’t judge a book by its cover”, well it’s kind of the same thing.
Evil Everywhere does at least manage to feel like an eighties horror movie at times. The soundtrack and score are actually really good at times with both retrowave and synthwave genres used at times. I would happily listen to much of it outside of the film. But somehow it doesn’t always, in fact quite often, work as part of the movie.

If you’ve never heard of Lloyd Kaufman, you’ve managed to avoid the work of one of the most prolific pioneers of independent film from the past four decades. Kaufman’s New York-based movie studio Troma Entertainment has produced and distributed more than 1,000 films, and in the process has helped launch the careers of some of Hollywood’s most successful talents.
New Yorkers unfamiliar with Troma have a chance to catch up on its sensibilities this weekend. On Friday and Saturday, Troma hosts the 17th annual Tromadance Film Festival in Brooklyn, a free festival showing feature films and shorts from filmmakers around the world. This is the story of how one wacky filmmaking factory found its groove.
