Melbourne, Aug 4 (Ians) Veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon has signed a three-year deal with the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (Bbl), ending his decade-long stay at Sydney Sixers.
At the Renegades, Lyon will be teaming up with Australia’s regular white-ball leg-spinner Adam Zampa. Lyon was a part of the 2019-20 title-winning Sixers side, and his new deal with the Renegades will keep him at the club till the end of the 2025-26 edition of the competition.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be part of the Melbourne Renegades. (Marvel Stadium is) a place where I enjoy bowling, it tends to spin a little bit. I’m looking forward to hopefully joining up with ‘Zamps’ in a really good partnership and putting a show on for the Renegades fans.”
“I’ve got some really good friends who are part of the Melbourne Renegades, and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to come down.

Melbourne, Sep 29 (Ians) A little-known Sri Lankan leg-spinner, Ruwantha Kellapotha, on Thursday became Big Bash League (Bbl) side Melbourne Renegades’ first overseas replacement player signing for this season.
The 31-year-old, who has played 20 First-Class and 12 List A games, has signed up with the Renegades for Bbl-12, capping a remarkable rise through Victorian cricket ranks. Kellapotha last played First-Class cricket in Sri Lanka in 2013.
Over the past decade he has played club cricket in Melbourne — primarily in the Dandenong District Cricket Association.
“Last summer, he made the jump to Premier Cricket with Casey-South Melbourne, claiming 46 wickets across First XI and Super Slam matches to be the competition’s leading wicket-taker. He also represented Victoria’s 2nd XI,” said a Renegades statement.
“Those efforts earned him selection in the Melbourne Renegades Academy squad for last month’s Top End T20 Series in Darwin — with his performances there securing him a spot in...

New Delhi, Dec 13 (Ians) Legendary spinner Shane Warne has named his Australia XI for the upcoming first Test against India in which he has picked up Matthew Wade and Marcus Harris as openers.
Will Pucovski and David Warner, who seemed all set to open for Australia at the Adelaide Oval, have both been ruled out of the day-night Test which begins Thursday.
Warner had injured his adductor muscle in the field during the second Odi against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg), while Pucovski sustained a concussion in the tour match at the Drummoyne Oval last week.
Warne's first Test XI does not feature opener Joe Burns who has been struggling for form in the recent times. In the two tour games, Burns returned with scores of 4, 0, 0 and 1 and looked completely out of sorts. Warne has also picked Shaun Marsh as stand-by in case all-rounder Cameron Green doesn't get fit for the Adelaide Test.

Sydney, Dec 11 (Ians) Veteran batsman Shaun Marsh is among those that Australia are looking at to take the role of opener for their first Test against India, coach Justin Langer said on Friday.
Marsh, 37, last played for Australia in an Odi against Sri Lanka in June 2019 and his last Test match was in Sydney against India in January that year.
With David Warner ruled out of the first Test and questions hanging over the condition of young Will Pucovski, Marsh's prolific performances in Australia's domestic first class tournament have led to him becoming a prospect.
"You never discriminate against age. He's doing everything possible," Langer told Australian Channel Seven on Friday.
"His numbers in Sheffield Shield cricket -- not only this year but the back end of last year -- were absolutely elite. There's no more popular player in the Australian cricket team than Shaun, maybe his brother (Mitch) actually.

New Delhi, Dec 10 (Ians) Steve Smith on Wednesday stated that Australia's batting depth will be tested in the absence of the injured opener David Warner for the first Test of the upcoming four-match series against India which begins December 17 at the Adelaide Oval. However, Smith is willing to take the responsibility of manning the number three slot in case the usual one-down batsman, Marnus Labuschagne, is sent out to open the innings.
Australia have been contemplating over opening options with Will Pucovski also uncertain following concussion-related worries after he was hit on the head by a delivery from Kartik Tyagi during the first warm-up tie earlier this week.
Pucovski is still in Sydney, tended to by the doctors, while most of the Australian Test team players, including Smith, have flown in to Adelaide.
"Our depth is going to be tested with Davy (Warner) out and a few potentially new players coming in.

New Delhi, Nov 23 (Ians) The current Indian Test team is a bit fortunate to tour Australia within two years of their previous tour. Earlier, the tours were separated by a few years and that would make things difficult for players, especially spinners. By the time, they would adjust to the conditions and pitches, the tour would be over.
Past generations of spinners suffered from this. But when either Kuldeep Yadav or R Ashwin, or both, take the field on December 17 for the first Test in Adelaide, they will have an advantage and confidence to draw from their recent successes.
Both had performed well in the last Tests they played in Australia during India's tour of 2018-19. While Yadav picked five wickets in the first innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg) in January 2019, Ashwin got six across two innings in Adelaide a month before that. Ashwin didn't...

Sharjah, Sep 27 (Ians) A maiden century from Mayank Agarwal and his epic 183-run opening stand with captain Kl Rahul helped Kings XI Punjab score 223/2 batting first against Rajasthan Royals at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Mayank scored 106 from 50 balls, his innings punctuated by as many seven sixes and 10 fours. Rahul, on the other hand, scored 69 off 54, smashing seven fours and one six.
The partnership that the pair shared is the highest opening stand ever for Kxip and the second highest overall for the team, behind the mammoth 206 put up by Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh for the second wicket against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011.
It is also the third highest opening partnership of all time in the Ipl.
The stand was broken when Mayank holed out at deep midwicket off Tom Curran in the 17th over. Rahul went in the next over, falling to Ankit Rajpoot.
