There really needs to be some regulation on calling your horror movie The Ritual, even it has a ritual or rituals in it. Seriously, go to the IMDb and see how many titles come up with you type it in (we'll wait — it could be a while)… That, however, isn't stopping director David Midell, who has Al Pacino and Dan Stevens ready to play priests in a new based-on-truth tale that uses that name.
Midell wrote the script with creative partner Enrico Natale and has taken inspiration from a true story. It'll follow a pair of priests, with Stevens' questioning his faith and Pacino's trying to overcome a troubled past as they shove their differences aside to try to help a young woman.
Emma Schmidt's demonic possession demanded a series of dangerous and harrowing exorcism, and her case is still the most thoroughly documented example of the practice in American history.

Netflix officially pulled the plug on Fate: The Winx Saga after two seasons earlier this week.
However, the franchise may not be dead yet.
Winx franchise creator Iginio Straffi revealed this week that the Netflix cancellation "is for a bigger reason."
“Fate has been an exciting adventure, a great achievement, and a hit watched by millions globally, re-confirming the power of the Winx world,” Straffi shared on Instagram.
“I am working on many exciting Winx projects in the near future, some of which I take so much joy in sharing with you.”
One of those projects is a "brand new CG Winx animated series reboot," which is set to go into production soon.
The creator promises the show will "sweep you back to the Winx world."
If that wasn't enough Winx goodness, Straffi said that a "big budget Winx movie" is in the works.

Netflix has swung the axe on a chart-topping series despite the previous season ending on a cliffhanger.
The latest show to fall victim to the service’s brutal cancellation decisions is Fate: The Winx Saga.
Netflix released the series in 2021, hoping it would be another huge cultural hit in a similar way to Stranger Things and Bridgerton.
Despite receiving enough streams to send it to the top of the charts in several countries around the world, Netflix was unable to see a future for the series.
Showrunner Brian Young announced the news, writing on Instagram: “This is not fun news to share, but Netflix [has] decided not to move forward with season three of Fate: The Winx Saga. This is especially tough because I know how many of you loved this season. It’s a heartbreaking silver lining, but a silver lining all the same.”
He added: “It’s been an amazing four years.

For better or worse, Hollywood's nostalgia-mining tendencies come for us all. For fans of the Nickelodeon animated series "Winx Club," this was both a blessing and a curse: when the Netflix adaptation "Fate: The Winx Saga" arrived in 2021, it brought the beloved faeries back to screens. But it also received a very mixed reception.
Like so many of the gritty live-action adaptations being forced down our throats, "Fate: The Winx Saga" was after an entirely new audience. Rather than emulating the source material, this series targets older teens, shedding colorful whimsy for a dark fantasy aesthetic. Between the entirely new vibe and the many altered/missing characters, not all fans were pleased when the series first arrived. But this September, the sophomore season brought along some reason for hope. With its second outing, "Fate: The Winx Saga" seemed to incorporate much of that fan feedback — adding in some sorely missed...

When Abigail Cowen first read the script for Netflix’s “Fate: The Winx Saga,” she knew it was special. The show involved teenage fairies, attending a private boarding school. But while the series had that magic supernatural twist, its group of high schoolers had relatable insecurities and struggles with growing up and finding who you are.

Nice vistas and a scenery-chewing Famke Janssen aren’t enough to save this absurd scriptural rehash from movie hell
The latest from evangelical Christian producers Pinnacle Peak – formerly Pure Flix, the money behind the surprisingly enduring God’s Not Dead series – is an adaptation of a Francine Rivers novel that remaps the biblical tale of Hosea on to a western goldrush setting. That synopsis suggests a level of creative imagination and ambition, possibly something like Michael Winterbottom hauling The Mayor of Casterbridge further west for 2000’s The Claim. Yet this movie thinly scatters a parable’s worth of plot across 134 minutes and resembles HBO’s Deadwood recut for Sunday-school purposes: pious, puzzling and punitive, with a sternly wagging finger never far from entering the frame.
Let us give Pinnacle Peak this: they’re getting mildly more sophisticated about delivering The Message. DJ Caruso, a studio director of the mid-00s thrillers Taking Lives and Disturbia,...

If you've been craving more supernatural dramas since "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" ended, Netflix's series "Fate: The Winx Saga" is here to satisfy your binge-watching needs. The first season premiered on Jan. 22, 2021, and it's filled with tons of drama, magic, and mystery. On Feb. 18, 2021, Netflix confirmed that the series had been renewed for a second season, which will consist of eight episodes. The streamer released the official trailer on Aug. 23, and it foreshadows a dramatic follow-up to the first season's intense conclusion.
The series is based on the animated series "Winx Club," which ran for eight seasons, so there is plenty of source material for the upcoming season. While the Netflix series faced criticism for its live-action adaptation, particularly the whitewashing of some of the main fairies, the intriguing plot certainly drew audiences in.
"Diversity both in front of and behind the camera is vital and much-needed throughout the industry and internationally.

Bloom Peters is just about done with restraining herself and her powers — and her friends are more than happy to help her out along the way. In a new trailer for Netflix’s Season 2 of “Fate: The Winx Saga,” the fairies are more powerful — and perhaps more reckless — than ever.
Of course, there are changes happening this season. As the trailer ominously warns: “The old regime is gone. It’s time to embrace the new one.” That new one is led by Headmistress Rosalind, who rules over the school with an iron fist. But apparently, she was also “working on some super mysterious s—.” As a result, fairies from Alfea are starting to go missing.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis for the season, “School’s back in session under the militant authority of Alfea’s former Headmistress Rosalind. With the Burned Ones gone, Dowling ‘disappeared’ and Silva imprisoned for treason,...

It turned out to be déjà vu all over again at the box office as Sony’s competition-killer, Spider-Man: No Way Home, just kept cruising along as the number one movie in North America with an $11 million haul in its seventh weekend in theaters. With no major new releases during an otherwise sleepy January frame marked by white-out blizzard conditions in the northeast, the top five spots on the domestic front remained unchanged. Meanwhile, overseas, Peter Parker and company soared past the $1 billion mark—and that’s without even playing in the world’s biggest moviegoing market, China.
Snagging first place for the sixth time in its seven-week run, Spider-Man: No Way Home led a lackluster session in theaters, dipping just -21.5% from the previous frame. The PG-13-rated blockbuster earned a $2,993 per-screen average at 3,675 locations. Spidey’s domestic box-office total now stands at $735.9 million, which keeps it in fourth...

He’s back…and it didn’t take very long for his return either. A week after getting bumped from the top spot at the domestic box office by the latest Scream installment, Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home retook first place in its sixth weekend in theaters, racking up $14.1 million in receipts. Not bad for a movie that’s already been around for a month and a half. Meanwhile, there were two new wide releases over the weekend…not that anyone would notice. Universal’s faith-based romance, Redeeming Love, snuck into fourth place with a $3.7 million debut while the mothball-scented historical fantasy, The King’s Daughter, was finally unspooled after sitting on the shelf for seven years and proceeded to belly-flop into eighth place.

Exclusive: Deadline has the first exclusive track from Brian Tyler and Breton Vivian’s score for Redeeming Love, which is set for release tomorrow via Milan Records, as the Universal Pictures title hits theaters.
The film directed by DJ Caruso is a Western romance based on the bestselling novel by Francine Rivers that watches as a young couple’s relationship clashes with the harsh realities of the California Gold Rush of 1850.
For the project marking Tyler’s sixth collaboration with Caruso, he and Vivian looked to craft a sweeping score that captured the heart of its story and themes.
“Composing the score for Redeeming Love was truly one of the most moving experiences of my life. Incredibly directed by long-time collaborator DJ Caruso, the characters imbue such a sense of grace and love that I wanted to…write music that evoked their raw emotion in all of its complexity,” said Tyler.

Two new wide releases open this weekend, but we are looking at another weekend dominated byScream and Spider-Man: No Way Home. The face-off between the two franchise films has animated an otherwise quiet January, and while Scream swiftly displaced Spidey from the top spot last weekend with a steady lead at $30 million compared to $20 million, this weekend’s rematch could be a close one. Spider-Man, going into its sixth weekend, has seen drops in recent weeks of around 40%, and another similar drop this weekend would put it around $12 million. That’s right where Scream would be at with a 60% drop, so this weekend’s number one could go in either direction. With no new wide releases slated for next weekend, expect another rematch for the top spot.

“Scream,” the hit sequel in the long-running slasher series, will keep terrorizing audiences over the weekend.
Only one movie, Universal’s faith-based romantic drama “Redeeming Love,” is opening nationwide, and the poorly reviewed film, which combines a gold-rush setting with a parable about redemption and the oldest profession, isn’t looking like it’ll put up much of a fight on North American box office charts.
That means “Scream,” which debuted at No. 1 last weekend with $34 million over the extended Martin Luther King Jr. holiday frame, should have no trouble staying victorious. The R-rated horror film is tracking to earn $14 million (give or take) in its second weekend of release, representing a standard 50-55% decline from its traditional three-day opening.
Though “Scream” is expected to retain its leading spot, Sony’s comic book behemoth “Spider-Man: No Way Home” won’t be far behind. Now in its sixth weekend of release,...

"You have no idea who she is!" Universal Pictures has debuted the second trailer for the film Redeeming Love, a passionate romance story from filmmaker D.J. Caruso and adapted from Francine Rivers' novel of the same name. Redeeming Love is a powerful retelling of the biblical book of Hosea against the backdrop of the California Gold Rush of 1850. Abigail Cowen and Tom Lewis co-star as Angel and Michael, the two young lovers are the center of this story of love against all odds, as they connect despite their differences. Opening in early 2022 in theaters. "Redeeming Love shows there is no brokenness that love can't heal." The ensemble cast also includes Famke Janssen, Logan Marshall-Green, Nina Dobrev, Livi Birch, Eric Dane, Brandon Auret, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell, and Josh Taylor. This looks like a passionate story of true love, but the religious aspects seem overwhelming. Enough to turn me away from wanting to watch this.

Waxwork Records and WaterTower Music are proud to present Malignant Original Motion Picture Score by Joseph Bishara. Malignant is the latest creation from Conjuring universe architect James Wan. The film marks director Wan’s return to his roots with this original horror thriller. In the film, Madison is paralyzed by shocking visions of grisly murders, and her torment worsens as she discovers that these waking dreams are in fact terrifying realities.
Joseph Bishara is an American composer, music producer, and actor best known for his work scoring films such as Insidious, The Conjuring, Annabelle, and The Prodigy. He is known for his avant-garde style and unique approach to instrumentation and composition that suits horror films particularly well. Bishara disregards horror film score conventions by employing gut-wrenching string dissonance, haunting electronics, and sudden crescendos. Bishara’s Malignant score offers his distinctive style of disquieting strings, pulsing electronics, droning synths, and haunting sound design.
