Nikoloz Bezhanishvili, a freelance filmmaker based in Tbilisi, has an impressive portfolio encompassing three short feature films, twenty short documentaries, and two full-length documentaries. Additionally, he has edited five documentaries. Graduating from the Georgian State University of Theatre and Film in 2004, with a degree in Film Directing, Nikoloz gained recognition for his diploma short fiction film, "Yesterday, Today," which received acclaim and awards at various film festivals.
One of Nikoloz's initial ventures into documentary filmmaking delves into the 2008 Russia-Georgia war. This poignant work draws from personal interviews and the real-life narratives of refugees displaced during the conflict. In 2011, he created the documentary TV series "Green Ball," addressing environmental issues in his homeland. In 2015, Nikoloz produced his first full-length documentary, "Black Square," shedding light on the struggles of female drug addicts in Georgia and receiving support from the Open Society Institute. This film garnered recognition and accolades at several international film festivals and became a featured part of the International Documentary Association and American Film Showcase screening series in Los Angeles.
Beyond his filmmaking pursuits, Nikoloz produced videos for international media outlets such as Eurasianet, Washington Post, and The Guardian. His reports cover significant stories across post-Soviet countries, ranging from incidents of homophobic violence in Georgia to the Ukraine-Russian conflict. In 2015, he participated in the intensive documentary program at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts (SCA) as part of the American Film Showcase in Los Angeles. In 2015, Nikoloz has became a member of the International Documentary Association (IDA).
In 2018, Nikoloz took a significant step in his career by establishing the film company "Nikadocfilm." His latest documentary, "The Northeast Winds," premiered at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), adding notable achievement to his career.
