The WGA East’s second Showrunner Academy gets underway today, with the 31-member class taking part in a program designed to support television writer-producers, upper-level writers and new show creators in honing the skills necessary to become successful showrunners and TV industry leaders.
The Academy, which provides instruction from current showrunners and other industry professionals on a wide range of topics, is led by Diana Son and Frank Pugliese.
“Being a showrunner is so much more than being the creative voice of the show,” Son said in a statement. “It’s also managing a multimillion-dollar endeavor with over 100 employees. We’re bringing in accomplished and experienced showrunners who’re willing to share the breadth of their experience – the good, bad and the ugly – so new showrunners can have a head start on figuring out what kind of showrunner they’re going to be.

Former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne came to me months ago with a wild, difficult tale. I told him any story would have to come with a caveat.
“There’s not going to be any way to tell this,” I told him, “without explaining to readers you’re a different sort of dude.”
Unable to confirm enough of his story, I ended up hesitating. The tale is now out, and Byrne, whom I’ve known and liked for almost a decade, is taking a beating in the press. It’s unfortunate,...

From firing FBI Director James Comey to his endless attempts to undermine federal law enforcement on Twitter, President Trump has obstructed justice in plan sight for most of his time in office. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that he’s also been doing this behavior behind the scenes. On Tuesday afternoon, the New York Times published an extensive report detailing the “intimidation, pressure and humiliation” the president has exerted in an effort to stymie the multiple investigations into his campaign and businesses. The report contains a number of damning allegations,...

Washington — As Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation continues into 2019, anticipation builds around several questions, most notably: What will Mueller’s final report say? And will it ever see the light of day outside the halls of the Justice Department?
The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the top lawyer in the Trump White House had hired 17 attorneys as part of a strategy to suppress the release of the president’s most sensitive discussions with his closest advisers — interactions that could reveal attempts made by the president to obstruct justice.

Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who has overseen Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation since Jeff Sessions’ recusal, is leaving the Justice Department. The confirmation hearings for William Barr, President Trump’s pick for attorney general, begin January 15th, and once Barr is confirmed, likely sometime in February, Rosenstein will step down, according to ABC News. Rosenstein reportedly made the decision on his own, and is not being forced out of his position by the White House.
