The Mask played a massive role in establishing Cameron Diaz as one of the biggest Hollywood divas. Diaz was successful in impressing the audiences in her very first outing and flaunted an incredible chemistry with Jim Carrey. However, the 1994 classic’s script was never written for her. The director Chuck Russell’s original choice for the role was Anna Nicole Smith.

Jim Carrey’s The Mask was, is, and always will be one of the most goated comedy films of all time. Thanks to the lead actor’s undeniable charisma, Stanley Ipkiss found a home in the hearts of all comedy enthusiasts and we are yet to find a character that can kick him out. While Jim Carrey’s performance was undoubtedly exceptional, his chemistry with Cameron Diaz was another reason why we all love The Mask so much.
Jim Carrey in The Mask (1994)
However, casting Cameron Diaz as the beloved Tina Carlyle was no easy task. The team had to go through many actresses before finally finding what they needed. In fact, they ended up loving Cameron Diaz so much that they even turned the film’s initial script around, just for the sake of the character!

1. Documentary Review: Until I Fly (2024) by Kanishka Sonthalia and Siddesh Shetty
At the same time though, and if one looks at the story in a wider prism, the issues with emigration and the racism that results from it are highlighted quite eloquently, along with a comment that problems like that become even more significant in small societies, where one can definitely not ‘hide in the crowd'. As such, the movie is induced with a more universal essence, which definitely helps raise the quality of its context.

Choosing the protagonist wisely, “Queer Japan” gives space to a good sample of voices to be listened to. Butoh dancers, drag queens, club founders and owners, author of gay manga featuring bear gays, erotic drawing artist, politician. Gay, lesbian, bi, trans men, trans women, non-binary people, pansexuals, all kinds of various fetishes lovers and many many others.

Essentially a sequel, or a companion one could say to the excellent “A Thousand Cuts”, “And So It Begins” follows the 2022 Philippine Presidential elections, with Ferdinand (Bongbong) Marcos, Jr and former Vice President Leni Lobredo being opponents. At the same time, it also reserves space for the “protagonist” of the previous movie, Maria Ressa.
And So It Begins is screening at Thessaloniki Documentary Festival
In that fashion, the documentary begins with Leni Lobredo's term as Vice-President to Rodrigo Duterte (President and vice-president elections are separate in the Philippines) and the bullying she essentially received from him, with the public speaking scene where both are present, being highly indicative. Nevertheless, and one could say because of this attitude, Lobredo decides to run for President in 2022, and is actually considered one of the favorites for some time, particularly due to her promises to do things rather differently than the autocratic, intensely populist practices of Duterte.

A decade before Knight and Day was released, a movie like it would have killed with audiences: Come on, it starred Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz and looked to perfectly mash humor and action in a way that so few male/female-led action-comedies had for years. Yet, it didn’t connect. But why? There are a lot of reasons, really, and not just, as Roy Miller would say, “one of those things.” Through lousy marketing, hokey promotion, poorly timed sneak previews, and even Katie Holmes, Knight and Day fizzled, less “beautiful dress” than beautiful mess…But it did at least inspire a Bollywood remake, so suck on that, Vanilla Sky! Let’s find out: What Happened to this Movie?!

Yes, the first responder show kicks off its first season on ABC with a three-episode cruise ship emergency—did you expect anything else from Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby’s (Peter Krause) honeymoon?—but things might get even more dramatic off the clock for Eddie (Ryan Guzman) this season. He may or may not be able to make a new relationship work, plus he has to deal with the fact that his son, Christopher (Gavin McHugh), is growing up and dating. Guzman previews the storm possibly to come. What can you preview about the three-episode cruise ship disaster and the 118 going to help? Ryan Guzman: Chaos, chaos, and chaos. I think Tim [Minear] does an incredible job with just throwing every obstacle that he can think of our way; just when you feel like they might save the day,...

It isn’t every day you encounter a pop-disco musical about a buoyant aspiring circus performer and a brooding aspiring rock singer with competing Mommy issues falling in love in Mexico City against the electricized rearrangements of the Indigo Girls. And that’s not exactly lamentable, because I wouldn’t categorize English-language Glitter & Doom as necessarily essential cinema … though I also couldn’t accuse it of being anything other than original either. (Well, except for the foundational premise of opposites attracting and then ultimately clashing over dueling artistic ambitions.) Director Tom Gustafson (Were the World Mine) has crafted a sweet if plodding love story but it’s hard to truly hate on this whirling candy-colored poetic fairytale — it’s just too sincere, much like the musical source material.

Robert Downey Jr. went from being a young actor struggling with drug-related issues to one of the highest-grossing actors and is currently an Oscar nominee. Before his luck changed around in Hollywood, Downey Jr. auditioned for a role in the hit romantic comedy The Holiday in 2006. The Iron Man actor had earlier revealed that his audition was so bad and Kate Winslet, the lead actress, hated his English accent. Winslet has now confirmed this story in a recent interview.

Robert Downey Jr. revealed last summer that his audition for Nancy Meyers’ “The Holiday” went poorly after Kate Winslet roasted his accent work. Now Winslet herself is admitting to hating Downey Jr.’s interpretation of the character ultimately played by Jude Law. Winslet recently appeared on “The Tonight Show” while promoting her new HBO series “The Regime” and was asked by host Jimmy Fallon if she remembered Downey Jr.’s audition. Fallon was in the room for it as he was reading for the role played by Jack Black, while Winslet and Cameron Diaz had already been cast and were reading their roles.
“I remember it extremely well. I really do,” Winslet said. “We were told it was just a reading. I thought it was just a reading, like a fun reading of the script. I didn’t know it was an audition for the part. I am so sorry you didn’t get it.

Let’s start here: the production design in Tom Gustafson’s Glitter & Doom is impeccable, colorful, and memorable. Too often these days films lack an adventurous color palette. Here we have a welcome outlier. Production designer Geo Martínez breathes life into each frame. Next there’s the music. The film is a musical set to the indelible tunes of the Indigo Girls, the folk-rock duo that became a household name in the late ’80s and early ’90s with hits like “Closer to Fine” and “Galileo.” Without question are music and lyrics the most essential piece of this problematically simple narrative. These artists are long overdue for legacy-laden admiration and celebration.
Now, for some criticism. We have Glitter (Alex Diaz) who wants to be a successful circus performer. We have Doom (Alan Cammish) who wants to be a successful musician. Both are struggling as they tilt at the windmills of their dreams.

Jonah Hill will be directing Outcome for Apple, that’s going to star Cameron Diaz and Keanu Reeves. More here.
After a long hiatus from acting, Cameron Diaz has begun dipping her toe back into the world of moviemaking. It’s been almost exactly 35 years since the Indigo Girls first broke out with their eponymous second album, yet the Power of Two continues to thrive still, especially on the screen. “Barbie” recently pointed us “in a crooked line” with Margot Robbie’s rendition of “Closer to Fine”, while last year’s Sundance doc, titled “It’s Only Life After All“, brought us up close and personal with the duo themselves.
Following those movie tributes now comes another, in the form of “Glitter & Doom,” a jukebox musical that celebrates the enduring legacy that Amy Ray and Emily Saliers have crafted through their raw, passionate, and deeply personal brand of queer folk rock. But does the movie live up to their legendary talents or is it doomed to go the way of a film like “Yesterday“?

Cementing her return after taking a long break from acting, Cameron Diaz has secured a follow-up to incoming Jamie Foxx pic Back In Action. She'll star opposite Keanu Reeves in Outcome, which will be the latest directing gig for Jonah Hill.
Co-written by Hill and Ezra Woods, Outcome follows Reef (Reeves), a tarnished Hollywood star who must plumb the dark depths of his past to deal with his demons and make amends after he is extorted via a mysterious video clip.
Since it's described as a "dark comedy", we don't think this will turn out to be a The Ring situation, so we doubt there'll be any straggly haired girls climbing out of wells. But you also have to wonder who would have the guts to extort a man who has killed so many people in the course of several John Wick movies.
From the looks of the cast list,...

It’s been almost 10 years since Cameron Diaz’s last film appearance — but we have some good news. With Back in Action, Diaz is, well, back in action alongside her Any Given Sunday and Annie co-star Jamie Foxx. The pair play seemingly average parents with a big secret: They used to be incredibly skilled secret agents. Coaching Little League is a bit of a step down.
Of course, as the title suggests, the couple’s low-key suburban existence is not long for this world. Soon, the two are dragged back into the life they left behind, with explosive results. Read on to learn more about Back in Action, and get ready to join Diaz and Foxx when they land on Netflix this year.

Actress Cameron Diaz is being celebrated by her husband Benji Madden. Recently, the ‘Good Charlotte’ musician, 44, marked his wife’s 51st birthday by posting a sweet message on Instagram, writing that while he’s mostly not on social media these days, he likes his “little tradition” of logging back onto the platform for “special occasions to show love to my Queen”, reports People magazine.
“So today, it’s a very Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife, best friend, best partner in everything, ride or die, greatest Mom to our little girl, @Avaline wine boss, family chef, advisor, collaborator and everything else,” he posted alongside a photo of Diaz smiling and cuddling a cat.
“You do it all. So grateful to have our family and I am one lucky man – I know that seems obvious but it really is nice to say it out loud now and then when you’re feeling it”, he added.
