The Boy Meets World rewatch podcast Pod Meets World has proven to be immensely popular with those that grew up with the Tgif staple. But there was some skepticism prior to the first episode, with hosts Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle showing concern that their behind-the-scenes stories might have an unintended consequence on viewers.
Danielle Fishel – who played Topanga Lawrence on Boy Meets World – recently told People that of the concerns, mainly that it could potentially skew fans’ memories of the show. “We were worried we might ruin the show…We don’t want our criticisms or our critiques or our experiences to in any way change what your opinion of the show is. They’re just our honest opinions, and we can’t do it if we’re not going to be honest.”

Danielle Fishel Says She Feared Her ‘Boy Meets World’ Rewatch Podcast Would “Ruin the Show” for Fans
Danielle Fishel is sharing why she was worried about starting her Boy Meets World rewatch podcast with her former co-stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle.
The actress told People magazine in an interview published online Saturday that she feared the Pod Meets World podcast “might ruin” the popular ABC sitcom for fans.
“We don’t want our criticisms or our critiques or our experiences to in any way change what your opinion of the show is,” Fishel, who played Topanga Lawrence, said. “They’re just our honest opinions, and we can’t do it if we’re not going to be honest.”
During each podcast episode, the trio rewatches the series and shares behind-the-scenes moments and memories from their time on the show.

The ’90s were a hell of a time to be a teen watching television. Steve Urkle terrorized the Winslows with his hormones and buffoonery, Zack Morris, an unchecked sociopath, ruled the halls of Bayside High, and the cast of Boy Meets World dabbled in matters of the heart, disturbing societal norms, and the multitude of ways to conduct a proper Feeny call. Unafraid to tackle harsh topics like child abuse, abandonment, and racism, people identified with the Boy Meets World cast, teens and parents included.
Initially airing on ABC from 1993 to 2000, Boy Meets World starred Ben Savage as Cory Matthews, Will Friedle as Eric Matthews, Rider Strong as Shawn Hunter, Danielle Fishel as Topanga Lawrence, William Daniels as the wisened George Feeny, Trina McGee-Davis as Angela Moore, William Russ as Alan Matthews, Betsy Randle as Amy Matthews, with Lily Nicksay and Lindsay Ridgeway as Morgan Matthews.

Hill Harper announced on Monday, his plans to run for U.S. Senate in Michigan to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who stated in January that she would not be running for reelection in 2024. The actor posted his message to Twitter, dedicating his bid for office to his adopted son, Pierce Harper.
In the attached campaign video, Harper addresses Pierce, saying, “You see the world you’re growing up in doesn’t feel like it’s getting any better, it’s getting more divisive and more dangerous. When you told me you were afraid to go to school because of shootings, that’s not freedom.”
He later added, “At the core of so much of this are too many politicians in office who don’t really care about people.”

In the 1990s, there was an undeniable boom of incredibly successful sitcoms. The decade was flooded with sitcoms that would ultimately define that era of television. In just 10 years, viewers became glued to shows that have stood the test of time, like "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," "Seinfeld," "Frasier," "Friends," and many more. Amongst the variety of sitcoms on TV, "Boy Meets World" was an instant hit, especially for younger audiences. The coming-of-age show, which first aired in 1993, followed the day-to-day lives of Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), Cory's older brother Eric Matthews (Will Friedle), Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel), and Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) as they navigated life from adolescence to young adulthood.
"Boy Meets World" ended in 2000, but in 2014, a spinoff called "Girl Meets World" aired on Disney Channel and ran for three seasons until 2017. Many of the "Boy Meets World" cast members, including Savage, Fishel, Friedle, and Strong,...

Before fans came to know Danielle Fishel as Topanga on “Boy Meets World”, there was Bonnie Morgan.
As viewers know today, Fishel portrayed Topanga Lawrence through all seven seasons of the hit ABC sitcom, but that was not originally the case. Instead, Morgan, a fellow child actress, had landed the role, but was swiftly fired. Three decades later, Morgan recalled the sequence of events to Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong on the Monday episode of their joint podcast, “Pod Meets World”, and, notably, the alleged reason she was really let go from the role.
Morgan remembered having multiple callbacks for the job before being cast and noticed the script would continue to change, seemingly to reflect their conversations with her. After officially landing the role at around 12 years old, the actress described her first day on set as the “weirdest day of my life.” She claimed the adults were...

Boy Meets World would be nothing without the boy himself, Ben Savage – but apparently that’s exactly what it has turned into, as his former cast members are claiming that Savage pulled a Mr. Turner and just up and vanished from their lives.
In a new Variety piece, Boy Meets World stars Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence-Matthews) and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews) – who co-host the rewatch podcast Pod Meets World, which Savage is not a part of – reflected on the estrangement from the former Cory Matthews.
As Fishel put it regarding his beginning to distance himself, “He was very adamant that [the podcast] was not for him…He was also very clear, ‘I don’t want it to stop you. If you guys want to do it, go ahead.’ The time between those conversations and the time we actually started the podcast was a significant amount of time…We were just so,...

Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle and Rider Strong made a startling admission while discussing their former “Boy Meets World” co-star, Ben Savage — the group hasn’t spoken to him in three years. They’ve tried, but according to the trio, he “ghosted” them.
The three actors — who played Topanga, Eric and Shawn, respectively, for all seven seasons on the hit ABC sitcom from 1993 to 2000 — are perplexed about the estrangement, given that there’s no logical reason to explain the, for lack of a better word, fallout. They said as much in a lengthy Variety profile, in which they talk about their popular iHeart Radio rewatch podcast, “Pod Meets World”.
It wasn’t always this way. When the cast reunited at fan conventions, Savage — the show’s star as Cory Matthews — was also there front and center. With so much interest still surrounding the Tgif staple, the trio approached Savage about joining them for the rewatch episode.

Will Friedle isn’t the type of person to answer his phone while at a lunch — especially at a work lunch. In fact, he may have better manners than anyone I’ve ever met. But this was an exception.
We’d been sitting for about 10 minutes — Friedle, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and me — gathered around a corner booth in a Studio City restaurant.
“Oh, my gosh, I’m sorry, I have to take this,” he says after pulling his iPhone out of his pocket. He quickly turns it around, showing the group the names that are scrolling across the screen: “Bill & Bonnie Daniels.”
It was just a check in from Mr. (and Mrs.) Feeny and no, it wasn’t a planned call. It was simply an example of how most (more on that later) of this cast is actually still close.

Boy Meets World ran for seven seasons and followed Cory Matthews and his pals through the most tumultuous years of their childhood. By the time the series ended, Cory and his friends had grown up. Over the years, several teachers played key roles in the lives of Cory and his young pals. Some stayed on the show for all seven seasons, like Mr. Feeny. Others inexplicably disappeared. Mr. Turner, a teacher who took Shawn Hunter under his wing, played an important part in Shawn and Cory’s life until he suddenly vanished. Decades later, Anthony Tyler Quinn, the actor who took on the role, explained why his character just stopped existing in Shawn and Cory’s world.

Boy Meets World, starring Danielle Fishel, Ben Savage and Rider Strong, was a hit coming-of-age TV series that ran from 1993-2000. It provided plenty of young viewers on-screen proxies for their own ups and downs with adolescence and young adulthood. Without a doubt, the element that made the show so meaningful to so many was the connections between the characters.
It’s hard to imagine that the show almost didn’t include one of its most famous couples: Cory and Topanga.
On ‘Boy Meets World,’ Danielle Fishel played Topanga
Boy Meets World is remembered today for its core cast of characters. That includes best friends Cory (Ben Savage) and Shawn (Rider Strong), their teacher Mr. Feeny (William Daniels), and Cory’s brother Eric (Will Friedle). The list would not be complete without Cory’s long-time girlfriend and eventual wife, Topanga (Danielle Fishel).
Topanga was an important part of the series for its entire seven-year run.

Ben Savage, the former Boy Meets World star who recently announced that he is running for Congress, landed national exposure with an interview on Thursday’s GMA3: What You Need To Know.
In the interview, the show ran a clip from a 1995 Boy Meets World episode in which his character, Cory Matthews, gives an impassioned speech in running for class president. “I’m not somebody special. I am just an average guy like of you, the simple, hardworking students who struggle day after day. Too much homework. Unfair teachers. And an antiquated justice system that relies too much on detention. And if elected, if I win, and you guys vote for me, I would say, to each and every one of you, ‘Hey, thanks!'”
Savage was asked if the passion of his character or any of that message “still stand today.”

Ben Savage, best known for playing the lead role of Cory Matthews on the ABC sitcom Boy Meets World and its Disney Channel sequel Girl Meets World, is hoping to land a seat in Congress. As reported by People, recent paperwork filed with the Federal Election Commission reveals the creation of a committee to help with Savage’s political campaign. The former sitcom star is looking to run as a Democrat in California’s 30th District. The seat, which covers neighborhoods such as West Hollywood, Burbank and Pasadena, is currently held by high profile Democrat Adam Schiff, who is expected to run for Dianne Feinstein’s U.S. Senate seat should she choose not to stand again in 2024. This isn’t Savage’s first foray into politics; in fact, he graduated from Stanford University in 2004 with a degree in political science. During his studies, he interned for U.S. Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.

Ben Savage is less than a month into 2023 and already it’s shaped up to be one helluva year. The “Boy Meets World” star announced he’s engaged to girlfriend Tessa Angermeier!
The 42-year-old child star took to Instagram and posted a photo of him with his now-fiancée, in which she’s seen resting her left hand on his chest as they pose in front of a large pond in Owensville, Indiana. A rep for the actor told People, “They are both very grateful and enjoying this exciting time with their family and friends.”
According to the outlet, Savage and Tessa started dating in 2018. They’ve kept their relationship on the down low, but she has made a handful of appearances on his Instagram account over the years.

Boy Meets World was a beloved pillar of ABC’s Tgif lineup, lasting seven seasons and more than 150 episodes. The sitcom centered on Ben Savage’s Cory Matthews growing up alongside his family, friends, and teachers (who became friends and family—Feeny!). It’s lived on thanks to DVDs, syndication, and streaming, not to mention the spinoff Girl Meets World. Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence), Will Friedle (Eric Matthews), and Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter) continue to feel that love and lasting impact. It’s why they launched their podcast, Pod Meets World, on iHeartRadio. Each week, the stars not only rewatch the show through today’s lens but share stories and visit with familiar faces. We caught up with the trio to chat about what it has been like taking that nostalgic trip down memory lane. Do you find doing the podcast has been therapeutic for you? It really evolved into more than rewatching a show?...

Ben Savage is following a well-worn path blazed by the likes of Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger by throwing his hat into the political arena.
While those two both served as governor of California (with Reagan going on to two terms in the White House), the former “Boy Meets World” star’s initial goals are considerably more modest.
As Gawker reports, the erstwhile Cory Matthews is running for West Hollywood City Council in Hollywood, with the election taking place in November.
Savage registered the campaign website benforweho.com, where he addresses residents’ desire for their elected officials to do better.

So often on Boy Meets World it was all about the girl. And that girl was the brainy and civically ahead of her time Topanga Lawrence, played by Danielle Fishel, who scored the role of a Tgif lifetime when she was only 12 years old. That former child star is marking her 40th birthday May 5, and needless to say she's grown up a bit since Ben Savage's Cory Matthews first realized he was crushing hard on his classmate with the exceptional hair. After bringing Topanga back as a successful lawyer, wife and mom to daughter Riley and son Augie in Girl Meets World for a few seasons, Fishel remarried and in 2019 she and husband Jensen Karp welcomed son...

Blood-curdling screams. Taunting phone calls from a psycho killer. Creepy, ominous music with lyrics like “Here’s a knife. Here’s a gun. There’ll be fun for everyone. Death is on the menu tonight!” Elements of a forgotten ‘90s slasher classic? Nope. Just some highlights from the most memorable episode of ABC’s family sitcom Boy Meets World.
With the launch of Disney+ and ample time to get nostalgic and revisit old movies and TV shows due to the pandemic, many older millennials are diving back into Boy Meets World, which ran for seven seasons from 1993 through 2000 as a staple of ABC’s Tgif lineup. The show centered on Philadelphia teenager Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) navigating life with his best friend Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong), his love interest Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel), and brother Eric (Will Friedle), while perpetually receiving life lessons from longtime teacher and eventual principal Mr.

There once was a simpler time when preppies and jocks could hang with nerds, caffeine pills were the most dangerous drug on the market, and the high school principal was a totally uncreepy Bff goof in the cool kid clique. Those days of course only existed on the ‘80s/’90s kids sitcom relic, Saved by the Bell. But they’re about to live again in 2020’s Saved by the Bell reboot!
Scheduled to premiere on NBCUniversal’s new streaming service Peacock later this year, Saved by the Bell is the modern retelling of the fast times of life at Bayside High School, a trendy institution for the wealthy kids of the Pacific Pallisades, although this time it will be told from the point-of-view of several low-income students who are being transferred to the preppy locale. It also is set to feature the original series’ stars Mario Lopez as A.C.

Nostalgia is a fickle mistress. Embrace it too much and you run the risk of looking dated, but diverge and audiences forget why they loved a show in the first place. This is the battle currently raging around Disney+ and their spate of new programming.
At last year’s D23 Expo, in a crowded auditorium filled to bursting with fans, the new streaming service announced plans for a revival of the popular 2001 teen series “Lizzie McGuire.” Reuniting star Hilary Duff and showrunner Terri Minsky, the series promised to hold to what drew fans to the series while giving us a Lizzie who, now in her 30s, suffered from a new string of issues.
But after that splashy announcement the love between the series and Disney quickly soured, culminating with the announcement at the beginning of this year that the series had been shut down and Minsky fired. Yesterday, Variety detailed...

It's a Boy Meets Girl reunion! Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle gave fans the ultimate flashback this weekend by getting the gang back together for Fan Expo Boston. The Eric Matthews star even shared a few photos from the big event—including one of the co-stars sticking out their tongues with William Daniels, who played Mr. Feeny. "We're baaaaaack!" he captioned the silly snapshot. He also posted a photo of the Topanga Lawrence star sitting in a chair while her co-stars seemingly got the boot. "Lesson learned: Never try to take Danielle's chair," Friedle captioned the picture, which also showed the Cory Matthews and...

You need to smile today, and if you haven't done that already, you can thank me later for tipping you off to this photo of the cast of Boy Meets World as they reunited at Emerald City Comic Con earlier this week. In a photo posted to Danielle Fishel's Instagram on Thursday, our favorite John Adams High School alums - Fishel (Topanga Lawrence), Ben Savage (Cory Matthews), Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews) - can be seen happily posing next to their beloved former teacher and mentor, William Daniels (Mr. Feeny).
"Dream. Try. Do Cons," Fishel captioned the photo. Not to be dramatic or anything, but I audibly gasped as soon as I saw this photo pop up on my explore page, and it's the exact dose of positivity that I needed today.

Cory Matthews could never get anything past Mr. Feeny, and apparently a burglar couldn't, either. William Daniels, the 91-year-old actor best known for playing Mr. Feeny on Boy Meets World, stopped an attempted burglary at his San Fernando Valley home last Saturday. According to ABC7, an intruder tried to force their way into the home that Daniels shares with his 89-year-old wife, Bonnie Bartlett. Daniels reportedly ended up scaring the burglar off by switching on a light before things escalated.
"Someone tried to break into the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Daniels on Saturday evening," Daniels's rep confirmed to People. "Luckily, Mr. Daniels was able to frighten away the person and the Lapd quickly responded. They are both well. Mr. Daniels thanks all his fans for their concern."
Even though we're all happy to hear that this encounter didn't go awry, it goes without saying that fans are still pretty shook right now.

A reunion of Boy Meets World actors at New York Comic Con in honor of the show’s 25th anniversary showed how difficult it is to separate character from actor, especially at such a formative age. Will Friedle threw out quips and one-liners like fireballs, while Danielle Fishel approached everything in a calm, composed and intelligent manner. And in true Cory Matthews fashion, Ben Savage approached the panel with an anxious, furrowed brow.
“When Danielle talks to me, I feel like I’m in a timeout,” he joked to an energetic audience filled with fans of the ABC show,...

It's been almost two decades since Boy Meets World came to an end, but we're happy the cast has remained close. Cory Matthews and Jack Hunter - er, Ben Savage and Matthew Lawrence - recently reunited to celebrate Matthew's recent engagement to Cheryl Burke. "Congratulations on your engagement @matthewlawrence," Ben wrote on Instagram. "So happy for you and @cherylburke."
Matthew and Cheryl's engagement party went down in La earlier this month and was hosted by Dancing With the Stars pro Kym Johnson and her husband, Shark Tank's Robert Herjavec. The party featured tons of candy and treats, as well mini pretzels and a photo booth. Cheryl stunned in a white strapless dress, while Matthew looked dapper in a navy suit. The couple have been dating on and off since 2007 and got engaged this past May. We can't wait for Cheryl and Matthew to tie the knot!

Children of the ’90s were raised by ABC’s iconic comedy block of Tgif sitcoms which included the multicam comedies like Boy Meets World, Family Matters, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Perfect Strangers which provided wholesome family-friendly stories that have remained timeless with G-rated delight. The fandom surrounding the shows continues to thrive with nostalgic audiences and the Hulu’s resurgence of these shows affectionately called TGIHulu feeds that to a whole new generation. Boy Meets World creator Michael Jacobs and show star Ben Savage were joined on the Atx dais by Family Matters creator William Bickley and show star Kellie Shanygne Williams as well as Sabrina the Teenage Witch creator Nell Scovell to walk down memory lane and why the classic sitcoms continue to resonate with their surprisingly relevant moral tales.
Let’s not kid ourselves — there is a certain cheesiness that comes with the shows that were part of the Tgif lineup.
