RedBird Imi, the media and entertainment investment company headed by ex-CNN chief Jeff Zucker, announced the completion of its $1.45 billion takeover of All3Media, the U.K.’s largest independent TV production company.
With the deal closed, Zucker, CEO of RedBird Imi, has become the chairman of the All3Media board. All3Media CEO Jane Turton and COO Sara Geater will continue to lead the media company for RedBird Imi.
The All3Media acquisition, announced in February, is RedBird Imi’s largest completed transaction to date and its fifth since the investment company was formed in late 2022. Jeff Zucker and Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Imi on Thursday closed its £1.15 billion ($1.45 billion) acquisition of TV and film production powerhouse All3Media, the largest TV producer in the U.K., from Warner Bros. It has been two years since Jeff Zucker resigned from the top job at CNN over a consensual relationship with a network executive. Since then, he’s headed up RedBird Imi, a joint venture between Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital and Imi, an investment fund backed by the UAE. With a massive private equity war chest behind him, Zucker, 58, has been relentlessly hunting for deals. In a little over a year, he has invested in TV studio and motion picture company Media Res and news site Front Office Sports and just made an audacious bid to buy the U.K.’s Telegraph, provoking an outcry from journalists and politicians. On Feb. 17, Zucker’s firm bought powerhouse producer All3Media (which backed 1917, Fleabag, Squid Game: The Challenge, The Tinder Swindler and Penny Dreadful, among many other movies, docs and shows) for $1.45 billion. The mogul spoke to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after.

Global production juggernaut All3Media, led by veteran CEO Jane Turton, produces 4,000 hours of content annually. It has not only made headlines with such hit productions as The Traitors, The Tourist, Life on Our Planet, Boat Story and the upcoming Squid Game: The Challenge, but also the fact that co-owners Warner Bros. Discovery and Liberty Global recently kicked off a sales process for the company.
“This could be a catalyst for consolidation and really help transform other studio businesses,” Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries explained in September. “All3 is an incredible business. The management team, the assets, the studios they have are world-class. We love Jane, we love what All3Media does.”
For THR‘s feature on the 35 Most Powerful Women in International Television, Turton answered a few quick questions.
What was the biggest professional challenge you faced this past year?
Uncertainty. This has been a common theme over the past few years.

All3Media, the production-distribution giant behind “Fleabag,” “The Traitors” and Jamie Dornan-starrer “The Tourist,” will return to the sales block in September after ITV backed away from a deal last month.
The indie powerhouse, which is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery and Liberty Global, is now being quietly courted by a string of European players, from Plan B owner Mediawan to Banijay and Sony Pictures, according to several industry sources.
It’s understood that ITV had a preemptive right to explore an acquisition of All3Media, since both companies have a joint shareholder in Liberty Global (which owns nearly 9.9% of ITV). Sources indicate a deal wasn’t just likely, it was almost across the finish line. Some executives at the company were even calculating their redundancy packages due to the overlap between ITV and All3Media’s assets, particularly on the unscripted side.

The London-headquartered independent television producer, which is responsible for shows including “Fleabag,” “The Traitors” and Jamie Dornan starrer “The Tourist,” is being put up for sale by owners Liberty Global and Warner Bros Discovery, The Telegraph reports. All3Media CEO Jane Turton has said the debate around British public service broadcasting needs to be “reframed” as the biggest indie bosses in the country debate future Psb, privatization and the plethora of reboots.
These broadcasters are not “Netflix, Apple TV+ or YouTube,” Turton stressed during an Edinburgh TV Festival session on public service broadcasting, where she debated with Banijay UK Exec Chair Patrick Holland, Naked MD Fatima Salaria, Cardiff Productions Founder Pat Younge, Avalon Founder Jon Thoday and former Channel 4 CEO David Abraham.
“We have to concentrate on what PSBs do well and make more of that,” added Turton, whose company owns the likes of Gogglebox producer Studio Lambert. “I don’t think people celebrate their success enough.”
She called for a “reframing” of the debate around these broadcasters.

Project Funding
The Asian Cinema Fund, a bursary scheme for film and documentary projects operated alongside the Busan International Film Festival, has announced six Korean recipients and seven hailing from elsewhere in Asia. The fund was put on hiatus during the two years of Covid, which also reduced the festival in size and turned the Asian Contents & Film Market into a virtual event. Three winners – “In the Land of Brothers,” by Raha Amirfazali, “Life I Stole,” by Putri Purnama Sugua and “Smart City,” by Rohin Raveendran – each receive KRW10 million for script development and are invited to participate in the Acfm’s Asian Project Market. Three films currently in post-production — “Birth,” by Yoo Jiyoung, “Juhee from 5 to 7,” by Jang Kunjae and “Mariam,” by Arvind Pratap — will receive in-kind support for digital intermediates, Dcp production, sound mixing and sub-titling, and are expected to premiere as finished works at the Busan festival.

Netflix is set to grow its existing co-production partnership with U.K. public service broadcasters (PSBs), a senior executive has revealed.
Speaking on the second and final day of the Royal Television Society convention at Cambridge, Brandon Riegg, Los Angeles-based vice president, unscripted and documentary Series at Netflix, said that since 2017, the streamer had invested in more than 40 co-productions in the U.K., worth tens of millions of pounds. “If anything, it’ll grow as we go forward,” Riegg said.
“A big benefit of a coproduction model is we have partnerships with PSBs that have great creative instincts, we defer to them creatively,” said Riegg. “It’s a wonderful model, because we get terrific programming. And we are able to spread the work around and that allows PSBs to partner with us on it. So that’s been a great initiative, I would expect us to steadily increase the volume of that.

All3Media CEO Jane Turton said: “There has never been more demand for high quality IP, and we are all looking forward to working closely with the producers of these shows.” Louise Pedersen, CEO of All3Media International, added: “With over 10,000 hours of content, and some fantastic internationally known programmes, this catalogue will be an excellent and complementary addition to our library.

Writer Neil Gaiman, actor Hugh Grant and historian and presenter David Olusoga are among 120 well-known British figures who have signed an open letter decrying the threat to public service broadcasters from streamers and government.
The letter, from campaign group the British Broadcasting Challenge, chaired by former BBC creative officer Pat Younge, states that PSBs such as the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 are “under severe threat” from “unregulated streaming services and ‘click-bait’ content of big-tech companies” and also from the U.K. government.
Also signed by actors Michael Sheen and Steve Coogan, author Salman Rushdie and filmmaker Armando Iannucci, the letter is addressed to U.K. Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Oliver Dowden. Hugh Grant, Neil Gaiman, and Michael Sheen are among 120 public figures who have signed an open letter to the UK government attacking plans to reform the BBC and the wider public service broadcasting (Psb) ecology.
The letter, organized by campaign group the British Broadcasting Challenge, called for an open and transparent debate about the future of Britain’s public service broadcasters, which were described as a “significant national asset.”

Acting CEO Tom Fussell was recently seen as the frontrunner, with a number of sources expecting him to be handed the job permanently, but Sharp asked BBC Studios to go back to the drawing board after his arrival in February, per two sources.
BBC Studios is said to be casting its recruitment net globally and there is also chatter that former Goldman Sachs banker Sharp may have some candidates in mind from outside of the television industry.
