Clint was born and raised in a working class family in Lancaster, PA, to parents Susan and Allen. He did not attend University, but instead joined the workforce as a manual laborer while still in high school. He held various physically demanding jobs, including a UPS tractor trailer loader, a cabinet setter, mason tender, and carpenter's assistant.
When he was 26 he ventured out on a bicycle and traveled the country or a year, returning a changed person. He met his future wife and they became nomadic, even as they had their child. After eight years, they settled in New Mexico to pursue the arts in the film industry.
He discovered acting and before he had an agent, auditioned and booked a unique role on NBC's "The Night Shift".
While being a stay at home dad for two daughters, he dedicated himself to acting professionally, and joined SAG a year later.

- Clint has portrayed historical figures Tom Pickett and Morris James, both men of the old west who lived during the same time period.
- During the filming of his death scene in Midnight, Texas, Clint fell back onto the road without padding two dozen times. Clint bruised the ulna bones of both of his forearms when they cracked onto the pavement, and took a month to heal. The final take is what makes it into the scene.
- Clint was favored by the Coen Brothers for the role of the Frenchman in "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs" They liked him for it and he impressed them at the callback with his dialect but ultimately did not get the part. The role was given to David Krumholtz.
