Extraction 2 director Sam Hargrave is part of a current wave of stuntmen turned directors, and so he’s routinely mentioned in the same sentence as John Wick co-creators Chad Stahelski and David Leitch. Hargrave actually cut his directorial teeth by creating stunt-viz and fight-viz for the likes of Stahelski and Leitch, as well as the Russo brothers, Gavin O’Connor and Francis Lawrence. And so when Hargrave got called up to the majors to direct 2020’s Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, he executed the action filmmaking at such a high level that Netflix knew they had a franchise in the making, prerelease.
Hargrave admits that there’s good-natured competition between him and his contemporaries, even if John Wick: Chapter 4 made him doubt himself ever so briefly.
“If you’ve seen John Wick: Chapter 4, it’s a masterpiece. Sometimes, it makes you want to go home and hang it up and say, ‘Yeah,...

Extraction 2 is the sequel to the 2020 film Extraction, also directed by Sam Hargrave and starring Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake. Rudhraksh Jaiswal and Golshifteh Farahani complete the cast.
Building upon the successful elements of its predecessor, this sequel amps up the action and intensity, leaving little room for intelligence.
Plot
Tasked with rescuing a family in the clutches of a Georgian gangster, Tyler Rake infiltrates one of the world’s deadliest prisons. But when the extraction goes awry and the gangster dies in the heat of battle, his equally ruthless brother tracks down Rake and his team to Sydney for revenge.

Back in 2020, Netflix served up "Extraction," apparently at just the right moment as the film became one of the most-watched streaming movies of 2020. Writer Joe Russo tried to wring some emotion from his story of a black market mercenary rescuing the son of a drug lord but basically penned a non-stop shoot 'em up with a kind-of-cool 12-minute one-take shot.
But according to Netflix's viewing figures, that turned out to be a winning formula, which of course meant the streamer greenlit a sequel. And now, two years after the first movie debuted, we're about to see the return of Chris Hemsworth's Tyler Rake as he embarks on a new mission to extract the family of a Georgian gangster from some hellish confinement. And it seems this time around, Russo and director Sam Hargrave have somehow managed to push the action even further, with "Extraction 2" promising to deliver a...

Back when the global pandemic was ramping up, it turned out all anyone wanted to do was watch Chris Hemsworth get put through the wringer. "Extraction" proved a big hit for Netflix when it debuted in April 2020 — at least according to the streamer, which claimed the action thriller broke viewership records. Naturally, that meant there was always going to be an "Extraction 2," even though Hemsworth's black market mercenary, Tyler Rake, looked like he almost certainly perished at the end of the first one.
Rake was shot multiple times before falling off a bridge during the finale of "Extraction." But in the film's closing moments, it was suggested he may have survived the ordeal, as a blurry figure emerges right before the film cuts to black. Then, an "Extraction 2" teaser arrived back in September 2021, confirming his survival. Things went kind of quiet for a while after that, before we...

On paper, the synopsis for Extraction made it sound virtually identical to the dozens of mid-budget actioners that get released every single year, and Chris Hemsworth doesn’t exactly have the greatest track record of critical and commercial success for leading genre movies that don’t require him to suit up as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor. As such, it would be fair to say expectations were muted.
However, when Sam Hargrave’s brutal and gritty feature debut landed on Netflix in April, it exploded in popularity and ended up becoming the platform’s most-watched original movie ever after racking up a massive 90 million streams in the first four weeks it was available. Most of the praise was directed towards Hemsworth’s no-frills performance as Tyler Rake and Hargrave’s impeccable action choreography, but the driving force of the story was Rudhraksh Jaiswal’s Ovi Mahajan, the child that...

Even from the get-go, Extraction debuted on Netflix with some pretty lofty expectations.
For one, it featured the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth, in the role of Tyler Rake, a hardened mercenary tasked with finding Ovi Mahajan (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the son of an imprisoned Indian crime lord. Toss in Netflix’s considerable resources, Joe Russo’s writing chops, and director Sam Hargrave, whose Stunt Coordinator credits span Captain America: Civil War, Infinity War, and last year’s Avengers: Endgame, and you have all the makings of a bona fide hit.
And sure enough, Extraction delivered (and then some), propelling Hargave’s feature-film debut to the tip-top of the streaming charts. In fact, there’s even been chatter of a sequel, with Hemsworth dropping hints about a potential return as Tyler – you know, despite the fact that he fell off a bridge during the finale, having mowed down half of India’s criminal underworld.

Sam Hargrave’s Extraction is on the verge of making Netflix history.
Earlier this month, the Big N announced that Extraction, a hardboiled action movie featuring the God of Thunder himself, Chris Hemsworth, was “on its way” to becoming the biggest-ever Netflix film premiere, with an estimated 90 million households (!) sitting down to watch Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake in the first four weeks of release.
Extraction also serves as a vehicle for Chris Hemsworth to flex his acting chops beyond the confines of the McU, and it’s fair to say that, once he’s ready to put down a certain hammer, Hemsworth has an exciting action career lying in wait. Indeed, the Netflix original included a couple of pretty powerful scenes in which Tyler Rake, the hardened mercenary capable of wiping out an entire army, revealed his emotional scars – specifically those caused by the death of his six-year-old son.

Every shot in a movie is designed to tell a story, but there’s one in “Extraction” that stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave particularly fought for.
The action film, now streaming on Netflix, stars Chris Hemsworth as mercenary Tyler Rake, who has to rescue Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the 14-year-old son of an imprisoned Indian drug kingpin, who has been kidnapped by a rival.
Shortly after the film begins, Rake extracts Ovi from his kidnappers, and a heart-racing shootout ensues as our heroes are pursued across the rooftops and streets of Bangladesh. The sequence lasts 11 minutes and was shot as a one-take thrill ride.
The idea was to allow the audience to experience the adrenalin rush of what would happen in a situation like that, Hargrave explains. He describes the sequence as a cross between Jason Bourne and James Bond movies — “except we didn’t have the time or money” that they do.

Joe Russo has closed a deal to write the script for “Extraction 2,” the sequel to the Chris Hemsworth action film that debuted on Netflix on April 24.
No other deals have closed, but Russo’s production company that he runs alongside his brother Anthony Russo, Agbo, is hopeful that Hemsworth will return alongside director Sam Hargrave. Russo also wrote the screenplay for the first film.
Hemsworth stars as Rake, a black ops mercenary who is tasked to rescue an Indian drug lord’s kidnapped son in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Russo, Anthony Russo, Mike Larocca, Eric Gitter, Peter Schwern and Hemsworth produced the action thriller.

Netflix's newest action-thriller Extraction is essentially American Sniper meets Marvel Comics with a Bangladesh twist. The flick stars Chris Hemsworth as mercenary Tyler Rake, who takes on the assignment of saving the kidnapped kin of an Indian drug lord from the hands of another in Bangladesh. Plans quickly go awry when the city goes on lockdown and Tyler realizes finding the kid is turning out to be easier than the actual journey home. Packed with gunfights, explosions, and car chases, Extraction is a fast-paced movie for sure, and if you don't pay attention to the small details, you might miss something, especially in its very ambiguous ending. Here's a breakdown of Extraction's shocking curveball ending.
Tyler's Mission
Tyler is first introduced to us as a mindless drunk who thinks cliff-diving off the coasts of Australia isn't so bad of an idea. It's obvious danger doesn't scare him. Upon...

If you just finished watching Chris Hemsworth in “Extraction” on Netflix and wondering how the hell they pulled off that 11-minute single take, TheWrap has got you covered.
The scene in question happens during the middle of the movie and takes place when Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is pursued by Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) on a captivating chase that first starts inside a car, then a foot chase ensues which spills out onto the streets, then Rake and Ovi go mano-a-mano inside a tenement building before returning back into the streets of Dhaka. Those are just the broad strokes as the shot is way more detailed than that. How is how they put it together.

With everyone still at home under lockdown and looking for something to watch, Netflix’s Extraction has been generating a lot of buzz ever since arriving on the streaming service on Friday, with fans really digging Chris Hemsworth’s old-school action movie. And if you’ve seen it, you’ll know why.
Extraction is roughly two hours of wall-to-wall set pieces that takes viewers on a wild ride and offers up some expertly choreographed action and tons of thrills. Sure, the plot is as generic as they come and pretty bland on the whole, but what it lacks in story the film more than makes up for in its stunts, explosions and hand to hand combat. Simply put, it’s an action lover’s dream come true.

This time of year, Fridays usually bring us a new blockbuster to devour at the local movie theater. But with the whole Covid-19 pandemic putting a damper on things by forcing cinemas to close, we’re now entertaining ourselves at home.
We kind of got our wish this week though in terms of seeing a new action movie. Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction landed on Netflix and to say there’s a high body count would be an understatement. But that was the intention of writer Joe Russo, who felt the story deserved a large amount of kills to heighten the urgency.
“For us, it’s certainly a hyper adrenalized story. And that’s what we liked. We wanted something super aggressive. It’s about a corrupt patriarchy and this damaged character. And so we really wanted to put him in a pressure cooker, an intense situation and a heightened level of action.

Without question, Chris Hemsworth is one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars. Playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will do that for you. Beyond being the God of Thunder in the McU, Hemsworth has displayed some underrated comedic chops, but in the new Netflix action flick Extraction, he’s given a largely humorless role. His killing machine main character is a throwback to the types of roles that action heroes a generation ago would have coveted, but the overall final product is uneven. For every step forward the film takes with intensity or a creatively staged action set piece, there’s at least one step back (if not more), in terms of senseless violence, narrative muddling, and some questionable racial elements. It all adds up to something that’s decent enough for a boring afternoon on Netflix, but not quite as good as it could have been. An old fashioned action movie,...

“That’s certainly a Netflix Original!” is becoming a frequent description in my critical lexicon. It’s not a dig, but not a glowing recommendation, either. Filmmakers flock to the streaming mega-service’s “creative freedoms” model of hands-off production, but that advantage doesn’t always translate into better products. Frankly, it’s a hindrance given how crucial third-party editing is since filmmakers bond themselves to their artistic “babies.” Sam Hargrave’s Extraction is yet another nearly-two-hour event that necessitates closer to ninety(ish) minutes, overstuffing itself while trying to replay Man On Fire’s greatest hits with a more military-trained background.

Inevitably, eagle-eyed viewers will find the seams in the most eye-popping sequence of Sam Hargrave’s feature directorial debut, “Extraction”: a long-form “one-shot” that clocks in at over 12 minutes, long enough to include a car chase, a foot chase, another car chase, gun battles, knife battles, hand-to-hand combat, and plenty of explosions. And that’s just fine by the Marvel stunt coordinator turned director, because knowing how it all came together doesn’t diminish its power.
The film is filled with the kind of physical feats worthy of one of the industry’s most well-known stuntmen and coordinators, but nothing is as impressive as the “single take” that arrives at the tail end of the action outing’s first act. In the new Netflix movie Extraction, a lethal black market mercenary named Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) goes on a deadly mission to Dhaka, Bangladesh to rescue the teenage son of an imprisoned crime lord from the clutches of an even more ruthless rival. Rake is haunted by memories of his own young son, who died of leukemia while Rake was away on a mission in Afghanistan. With nothing left to lose, Rake gradually sees the mission as a path back to humanity and redemption.
As the movie reaches its climax, Rake must get young Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) across one last bridge out of Dhaka and into the arms of Rake’s team, who will transport Ovi back to his home. Complicating matters is Saju (Randeep Hooda), the right-hand man of Ovi’s father, who ostensibly hired Rake’s team but...

The new Netflix movie Extraction stars Chris Hemsworth (Avengers: Endgame) as Tyler Rake, a highly efficient mercenary who is dispatched to Dhaka, Bangladesh to rescue the teenage son of a drug lord from an even more ruthless one. More than a decade ago, Sam Hargrave made his first foray into the world of superheroes with X-Men Origins: Wolverine as the double for Sabretooth, and soon found himself working on some of the biggest films in the genre, from Captain America: The Winter Soldier to Avengers: Endgame.
Now the veteran stunt coordinator is stepping out in a big way with his directorial feature debut, Extraction, available on Netflix on Friday. The film stars Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, an Australian mercenary mourning the death of his son when he takes a job to rescue a 14-year-old boy (Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the kidnapped ...

The first line of dialogue Chris Hemsworth has in Extraction is literally “hold my beer.” He says it because, tired of brooding behind sunglasses, he’s about to jump off a breathtaking cliffside into a rock quarry’s reservoir—so he can brood some more beneath the surface. He also says it because it’s exactly that kind of movie. For better and definitely worse.
Clearly hoping to present itself as something akin to the Sicario movies and other cynical realpolitik action-thrillers, Netflix and director Sam Hargrave’s Extraction actually functions more like the type of Sylvester Stallone or Chuck Norris action movies that used to dominate multiplexes in the ‘80s and ‘90s: He-Man archetypes in place of backstories and clichés trying to pass for plot points. And Extraction is nothing if not deafeningly cliché, which is a shame given how occasionally visceral Hargrave’s action choreography and set-pieces are...

If you’re looking for a dumb, disposable action movie in which Chris Hemsworth relentlessly shoots generic bad guys with only a few quick breaks to tend to his wounds and feel sorry for himself, Extraction is the movie for you. Actually, this R-rated Netflix bullet ballet is built for the biggest screen possible with the decibel level pushed up to 11 (home theaters only, since the multiplexes are closed, dammit). No judgments here if you just want to hang back and let nonstop gore, gunfire, and explosions numb you into submission.

From Thor to Fat Thor and various roles in between, Chris Hemsworth has never been shy about using silliness to subvert his god-like good looks. Drawn like a Times Square caricature of an Abercrombie & Fitch model, the Australian star has always been willing and able to shape the absurdity of his sex appeal into the punchline of a joke that we’re all in on together, or at least use it to suspend our disbelief in a cartoonish movie world that would otherwise be impossible to accept with a straight face..
In that light, it’s pretty tempting to laugh when the hot but haunted mercenary Hemsworth plays in “Extraction” is formally introduced during a scene in which he’s roused from a drunken stupor on the edge of a cliff, jumps off a skyscraper-sized waterfall that’s high enough to horrify lesser men, and then sobers up by...

Extraction
The new Netflix film boasts two massively powerful drug lords, one kidnapped child, and a whole lot of over-the-top violence. Chris Hemsworth portrays Tyler Rake, a mercenary tasked with rescuing Ovi (portrayed by Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the captive son of one of the drug lords. While the teaser reveals that the mission is a success, it turns out that one job only leads to another, more difficult one: actually keeping Ovi alive. For Tyler and Ovi, surviving requires risk. Tyler shoves the boy from one roof to another and throws...

Chris Hemsworth tries to rescue a young child in the middle of an outrageously violent drug war in the new trailer for Extraction, set to premiere on Netflix April 24th.
Directed by Sam Hargrave, Extraction stars Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a black market mercenary who is thrust into the middle of a stand-off between the biggest drug lord in India and the biggest drug lord in Bangladesh when he’s recruited to rescue Ovi (played by Rudhraksh Jaiswal), the kidnapped son of one of the kingpins. Chris Hemsworth is back to kicking major ass on our screens, but this time he's not wielding a magical hammer or ax. The Thor actor stars in Netflix's new action-thriller Extraction, playing weathered mercenary Tyler Rake who's got nothing left to lose when a rescue mission goes awry. Sent to extract (you see what they did there?) Ovi, the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord, Tyler realizes that getting the kid is a lot easier than delivering him home safely when the city goes into lockdown and everyone attempts to keep them from escaping alive. There are lots of gunfights, fistfights, things blowing up, and at one point, Hemsworth is doing yoga in his underwater. It seems a bit alarming, but his character obviously lives for danger, so we're going with it!

It’s looking more and more likely we may be having a summer absent of blockbusters when it comes to the theatrical experience. However, the pandemic is not causing a company like Netflix to shift their plans. This month, the first of what is sure to be some high-profile releases the season will arrive. Extraction is an action-thriller starring Chris Hemsworth and the trailer has landed.
Helmed by Sam Hargrave, a stunt coordinator and second unit director on many Marvel films, he’s making his directorial debut on the project, which is scripted by Joe Russo (who produced alongside Anthony Russo). The story follows Hemsworth as a black market mercenary who is tasked with rescuing a kidnapped son of a crime lord.
Also starring Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, Priyanshu Painyuli, and David Harbour, see the trailer and poster below.

"You want to survive, you do exactly as I say. Move fast, stay low." Netflix has launched the first official trailer for Extraction, a kidnapping rescue action thriller made by another stuntman turned filmmaker. Chris Hemsworth stars in the film as Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary who embarks on the deadliest mission of his career when he’s enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an international crime lord in India. Directed by Sam Hargrave, this action-packed, edge-of-your-seat thriller is produced by Marvel filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo. Also starring Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, Priyanshu Painyuli, and David Harbour. This looks pretty damn good, I have to say! Some seriously badass action with a heartfelt story. Looking forward to catching this on Netflix. Here's the first official trailer (+ posters) for Sam Hargrave's Extraction, direct from Netflix's YouTube: Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a fearless black market mercenary,...

Chris Hemsworth has teamed up with McU stunt coordinator Sam Hargrave for a new Netflix original film called Extraction, coming your way in April. It’s not the only Marvel Cinematic Universe connection the film has – Avengers: Endgame helmers Joe and Anthony Russo produced this one, and Hemsworth shares the screen with Black Widow‘s Red Guardian, aka David Harbour, who is certainly no stranger to the streaming service’s more expensive projects, having been a part of Netflix’s flagship sci-fi series Stranger Things since its debut.
In Extraction, Hemsworth stars as black market mercenary Tyler Rake, who is tasked with finding and extracting (ahhh?) the kidnapped son of a crime lord. It’s not the sort of part we’re used to seeing the actor in at this stage, as normally he does prefer to flex his comedic muscles when he’s off the McU clock, and director...

While he still very much has ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Thor: Love and Thunder, Avengers star Chris Hemsworth has a new Netflix actioner in the can for April 2020.
Its name? Extraction, and USA Today has relayed our first peek at Hemsworth in full military garb as Tyler Rake, a black-market mercenary hired to rescue the kidnapped son (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) of an international crime lord. It’s a journey that takes Hemsworth’s burly hero off to Dhaka, Bangladesh, and it isn’t long before the unlikely pair develop a friendship, one forged through warfare.
Chris Hemsworth himself welcomed Extraction as a refreshing change of pace, particularly after the super-sized Avengers: Endgame, telling USA Today that, as a father of three, he was able to tap into a “rawness and authenticity that is hard to fake. Every sort of perspective you have on anything in life changes...
