All customers of Warner Bros. Discovery’s streaming platform can now watch live news content from CNN.
Max is now officially in the news streaming business. Warner Bros. Discovery has launched its new CNN Max content hub on Max, meaning subscribers of the Max with Ads, Max Ad-Free and Ultimate Max Ad-Free plans all get live news, breaking updates, and much more. Wbd first announced it was bringing live news from CNN to Max in August.
“We have the broadest and highest quality entertainment offering, and now will include world-leading news as a meaningful addition for all Max subscribers, at no extra charge,” Wbd’s head of streaming J.B. Perrette said. “CNN Max is differentiated by having 24/7 news at its core from CNN, the leading global news organization, and being available on a scaled streaming service in the U.S., which has a significantly younger and additive audience compared to traditional TV.

CNN ventured back into streaming on Wednesday with the launch of CNN Max, a service that diverges from its past efforts in the way that it mirrors so much of the schedule of the linear network.
Primetime shows like Erin Burnett OutFront, Anderson Cooper 360 and The Source With Kaitlan Collins, as well as morning programming including Early Start with Kasie Hunt and CNN This Morning are on the scheduled unveiled on Wednesday. Other shows come from CNN International, including State of the Race with Kasie Hunt, which is debuting on Wednesday as well, and One World, with Bianna Golodryga joining Zain Asher as anchor. Amanpour also is part of the early afternoon schedule.
The CNN hub also features original programming, including Jim Sciutto anchor CNN Newsroom, with Rahel Solomon, Jim Acosta, Amara Walker and Fredricka Whitfield also set to lead coverage during certain dayparts.

CNN’s new streaming product is set to look an awful lot like its familiar cable network.
CNN Max, which debuted Wednesday, has been touted as a way to get news giant’s content out to a increasing number of cord-cutters and consumers who no longer view cable as their primary way to get video entertainment and information. And parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, in the belief, perhaps, that a streaming subscription is just as good as one to a cable or satellite service, is making the bulk of its linear lineup available to the broadband crowd.
The weekday schedule of CNN Max features several new hours led by anchors such as Jim Acosta, Fredricka Whitfield, Rahel Solomon and Jim Scuitto. But a significant chunk of the service is built on CNN’s linear morning, late-afternoon and primetime schedule. When all is said and done, Max viewers will be able...

As CNN races to catch up with the streaming world, its strategy in launching CNN Max — more than a year after the failure of CNN+ — will be a hat trick: offer news on its main subscription platform while preserving as much of its fast-declining linear audience as possible.
The pressing need to get CNN into the streaming space is obvious. Competitors like Fox News have already begun building an audience on their own streaming services. And adding news to the Max platform gives Warner Bros. Discovery a significant leg up over competitors like Netflix and Disney+, which currently do not carry live news at all.
“There is only one CNN and a significant number of U.S. homes have cut the cord. So if you don’t have a robust streaming solution, you can’t reach them,” Dave Morgan, CEO of cross-channel TV advertising firm Simulmedia, told TheWrap.

The new Warner Bros. Discovery streaming platform Max announced Thursday the addition of CNN Max, a 24/7 news service that will be free to subscribers.
The streaming news offering will launch Sept. 27, just over a year after the hastily aborted launch of CNN+. That project, which launched in May of 2022, was shut down three weeks later as the Warner Bros. merger with Discovery was freshly underway.
“CNN Max will leverage CNN’s reporting excellence, global newsgathering, and live programming from CNN US, CNN International, and feature original programming built specifically for Max,” the company said in a Thursday release. “CNN Max will be a new seven-day-a-week/24-hour service and be part of an open beta for news that will enable experimentation with product features, content offerings and original storytelling, all with the input and feedback from the Max community.”
The service will feature known CNN anchors and new programming built specifically for the streaming platform.

CNN, whose brief foray into subscription streaming was snuffed out shortly after the close of the WarnerMedia-Discovery merger in April 2022, is officially getting real estate on Max.
A new offering, CNN Max, will be added to the streaming service in what Warner Bros. Discovery called an “open beta” on September 27. It will consist of a 24/7 stream pulled from the news network’s U.S. and international feeds, with a sprinkling of original fare, with user feedback welcomed. For many reasons, some having to do with contracts with pay-tv operators, it won’t be a full-over-the top version of linear CNN, and certain talent and new shows like the new 9 p.m. hour hosted by Kaitlan Collins will not be in the mix.
Wbd CEO David Zaslav hinted at the new venture during the company’s quarterly earnings call several weeks ago, saying news and sports make SVOD platforms “come alive.

CNN unveiled a revamped daytime slate and anchor trios Wednesday that aim to take a “fresh approach” to its daytime programming through two new programs.
The network will host a standalone weekday 9 a.m.–12 p.m. Eastern block anchored by John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner out of CNN’s New York studios, while the subsequent 1 p.m.–4 p.m. Eastern standalone program will be hosted by Brianna Keilar, Boris Sanchez and Jim Sciutto.
The new daytime lineup resumes the network’s shakeup under the leadership of CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Chris Licht, who stunned viewers in September when he shifted network staple Don Lemon from hosting his own primetime show to co-anchoring “CNN This Morning” alongside Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins.

CNN said it would shuffle anchors across its weekday and weekend daytime schedules, grouping them together in new ways the network hopes will attract viewers as it attempts to work its way out of a longtime ratings shortfall.

CNN, in its latest on-camera lineup moves, has unveiled plans for a new weekday show to run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., to be anchored by John Berman, Kate Bolduan and Sara Sidner out of the New York City studios.

CNN unveiled an overhaul of its dayside lineup on Wednesday, with plans for morning and afternoon blocks of programming that will each feature anchor trios while emphasizing more energetic breaking news and event coverage.

Amara Walker, a Korean-American correspondent for CNN, said a passerby hurled a racist insult at her right before she went live on “CNN Tonight” Wednesday to discuss the rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans.
“I would say about 10 minutes ago, someone driving by just shouted, ‘Virus,’ in our direction,” Walker told anchor Don Lemon, using the interaction as an example of racial harassment Asian Americans face.
