John's action-drama Blacktop (also known as Destroyers) was in development with producers as a France-Australia film with director attached, until John decided to walk away from the deal in 2023. It was previously with Porchlight Films as an Australian film with a director attached until 2017, then won Best Action/Adventure in the Final Draft Big Break contest and made the Nicholl Fellowships top-2%. His comedy The Laugh Track won best short screenplay at the Los Angeles Comedy Festival and has been extended to the feature-length Death to Cinema which was a top-10 finalist of the ISA comedy script contest. He has also written for the Australian and/or American markets an action-drama Malvado (Nicholl Fellowships top-5%, Coverfly top-1%, finalist in 12 other contests), a crime drama Horse which can be adapted to a miniseries (semi-finalist in two contests), and a family comedy Bad Pussycat, also known as Biff (Screencraft and ISA FastTrack contests top-5%). Based in Sydney and the Gold Coast, he has a BA (Hons) from Monash University and did PhD English study at UNSW and Cambridge.
