Harare, June 17 (Ians) With 10 teams contesting for the last two places in the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India through the Qualifiers in Zimbabwe set to start from Sunday, former Zimbabwe cricketer Mpumelelo Mbangwa feels the significance of the event is way more important than it really is.
Sri Lanka and the West Indies, previous World Cup winners, will battle alongside hosts Zimbabwe, Ireland, Scotland, Oman, Netherlands, Nepal, the UAE and the USA in the next three weeks to determine who makes the cut for the main event in India.
“It is with great anticipation that I look forward to the Icc Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. The significance of the event cannot be overstated. Whilst there is a nuanced appreciation for each team participating, the competition is a marker for the direction of our great game and requires that each give their best under the intense pressure of expectation.

Cuttack, Sep 26 (Ians) After losing their last match against India Capitals, Gujarat Giants will be looking to make amends and a strong comeback in the Sky247.net Legends League Cricket (LLC) when they take on Bhilwara Kings at the Barabati Stadium on Tuesday.
Gujarat Giants will be hugely relying on Tillakaratne Dilshan to do the job for them. In his heydays, Dilshan was known for his aggressive batting style, technique and timing. All that mastery was on show on Sunday when he hit an unbeaten 75 off 59 balls against India Capitals.
The former Sri Lanka stalwart, who captained the Giants in place of Virender Sehwag, treated and thrilled the fans with beautiful shots all around the park, giving the bowlers no respite. Eventually, though, his terrific knock went in vain.
Dilshan, though, will hope to continue in the same form on Tuesday. But it won’t be easy.

Kolkata, Sep 17 (Ians) Two centuries and an exciting finish lit up the Eden Gardens on Saturday night in an electrifying contest between the Gmr-backed India Capitals and Adani Sportsline’s Gujarat Giants in the opening game of the Legends League Cricket 2022, which is being held in India for the first time.
It was a night of unexpected heroes, with Ashley Renaldo Nurse and Kevin O’Brien stealing the spotlight in a game that also involved Jacques Kallis and Virender Sehwag. First, it was Nurse who scorched the ground with an innings of 103 not out off 43 balls to help the Capitals post 179/7 in 20 overs. And while one thought it would be almost impossible for anyone to better Nurse’s effort on the night, Giants’ O’Brien came up with a fitting reply, smashing 107 off 61 balls.
In the end, the Giants emerged victorious by three wickets as they chased down the target in 18.4 overs,...

Cairns, Sep 6 (Ians) New Zealand team skipper Kane Williamson feels that with so many changes happening in the cricketing landscape across the world because of the mushrooming domestic T20 leagues, a solution needs to be found quickly to the emerging situation.
Two New Zealand cricketer — pace bowler Trent Boult and all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme — have exited the New Zealand Cricket (Nzc) central contract to play in the Australian Big Bash League (Bbl), while left-arm seamer Mitchell McClenaghan has expressed apprehension that senior players are not being valued much by the cricket’s governing body in the country, leading them to look for better avenues.
Williamson, said things are moving fast in the cricketing world and a balance has to be found between Black Caps’ national duty and the lucrative domestic competitions, as some players have opted out of central contracts.
“It’s a tricky one (situation) because it is changing.

McClenaghan’s fears come after pace all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday.
A veteran of 29 Tests, 45 ODIs and 41 T20Is who played an integral hand in the success of New Zealand in recent times, de Grandhomme was selected by the Adelaide Strikers ahead of season 12 of the Big Bash League (Bbl) through an inaugural overseas draft. Chennai, Feb 17 (Ians) The Indian Premier League (Ipl) mini-auction on Thursday could see a huge demand for bowlers even as Australian batsmen Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Glenn Maxwell, England's Dawid Malan, all-rounders Chris Morris of South Africa and Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan could be the hottest properties.
Smith, the Australian batting mainstay was released by Rajasthan Royals recently after he failed to put up big scores for them. He may, however, find interest from Punjab Kings (Pk), Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr), or Chennai Super Kings (Csk), who all are looking to strengthen their batting.
Labuschagne could also evince interest from the three franchises, especially from Kkr or Csk.
Pk have a heavy purse left with Rs.53.2 crore and they could go in for Smith (base price: Rs 2 crore) or Labuschagne (Rs.1 crore) or both.

Dubai, Nov 4 (Ians/GloFans) Reigning champions Mumbai Indians (Mi) will face Delhi Capitals (DC), looking to shake off the ghosts that haunted them in the closing stages of the league phase, in the first Qualifier of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) at the Dubai International stadium here on Thursday.
The team that lose the match will get a lifeline, and both sides will be looking to avoid playing the extra match.
Mi have always been a strong contender for the title, and this season is no different. Ticking all the boxes so far, the Rohit Sharma-led side are clear favourites on Thursday.
Mi have put up all-round performances in the batting line-up, evidenced by the fact that only Quinton de Kock (443 runs from 14 games) features in the top 10 of the highest run scorers.

Sharjah, Nov 2 (Ians/GloFans) Placed fifth in the eight-team standings with 12 points, SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh) are just a win away from securing a playoff berth and they will need to dish out something special when they face a rampaging Mumbai Indians (Mi) in the last league match of the Indian Premier League here on Tuesday.
With 18 points, defending champions Mi have ticked all the boxes so far and stopping their juggernaut will definitely be a herculean task for David Warner's team.
Srh must have drawn confidence from their consecutive two wins against Delhi and Bangalore. However, the challenge on Tuesday could possibly be a different once.
Warner, Wriddhiman Saha, Manish Pandey, and Kane Williamson, Srh boast a solid top-order, and they have a power-hitter in the middle-order in the form of all-rounder Jason Holder, who has been pretty decent in both departments of the game -- batting and bowling.

Dubai, Oct 30 (Ians/GloFans) Delhi Capitals will be looking to end their run of defeats and confirm a spot in the playoffs when they face the Mumbai Indians in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League here on Saturday.
With three defeats on the trot, DC have faltered in the latter stage of the league season after dominating for much of it.
While Mi are on top of the table with 16 points, DC (14 points) are at the third place, thanks to their net run-rate which is lower than that of second-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore.
If DC suffer defeats in their next two matches, it is possible that Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) would surpass them on net run-rate, even if the Kl Rahul-led side win only one of their remaining two matches. Heavy defeats in their next two games could even push DC out of the top four if Kolkata...

Dubai, Oct 17 (Ians/GloFans) Reigning champions Mumbai Indians (Mi) would look to enhace their chances of sealing a playoff berth with a win when they play a deflated Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) in the 36th game of the 13th Indian Premier League (Ipl) here on Sunday.
