Previously, in Netflix’s One Piece Episode 2, Luffy and his crew were captured by the clown pirate Captain Buggy, who sought the Grand Line map Luffy had swallowed. Meanwhile, Koby decided to join the Marines despite having a friendship with the pirates. Luffy’s hat held sentimental value as a gift from Red-Haired Shanks, who lost his arm protecting Luffy. It turned out that Buggy also had a Devil Fruit, known as the Chop Chop Fruit, which allowed him to split his body into parts to avoid getting hurt. However, Luffy ultimately defeated Buggy by trapping his body parts and retrieving the Grand Line Map. In the third episode of the series, we met a new member of Luffy’s pirate crew, and while the crew found themselves in a dangerous situation, facing a treacherous pirate captain, they would have to fight.

Aside from its literary brilliance, one of the most striking features of One Piece is the magnitude of its world-building and the sheer volume the main storyline has attained since the first volume was published twenty-five years ago. The still-expanding, voluminous narrative has often discouraged even hardcore otakus from venturing into the fictional world of pirates of the four seas. Understandably, while adapting the story for live-action, the makers at Netflix decided to omit, splice, and jump through several story arcs by jamming over 100 chapters into the first season, a strategy that will be followed in the following seasons as well.
To hint at the narrative that will shape up in the near future, the closing moments of the finale of the first season teased a certain character who will begin his hunt for Luffy and his Straw-hat crew soon enough. The individual in question is Smoker the White Hunter,...

Previously, in the first episode of the Netflix adaptation of One Piece, the story kicked off with the execution of Gol D. Roger in Loguetown, where he hinted at the existence of the One Piece treasure in the Grand Line. Monkey D. Luffy began his adventure, showing off rubbery stretching powers acquired from the gum gum fruit and teaming up with Koby. Together, they defeated Captain Alvida and continued their journey. Meanwhile, Roronoa Zoro’s run-in with Mr. 7 turned into a showdown, while the cunning thief Nami was on her mission to steal the Grand Line map. Luffy, Zoro, and Nami took on Captain Morgan to get the map and said goodbye to Koby. Garp learned about their actions, hinting at more exciting adventures to come, including Captain Buggy’s role. In One Piece Episode 2, Luffy and his crew confronted Buggy’s tyranny, and they managed to put an end to it.

Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation is streaming worldwide and has certainly taken fans by surprise with some of the notable creative changes, one of which is the introduction of Vice Admiral Garp. In true Shounen fashion, the leading faction of the manga series, pirates, must also face formidable mainstay adversaries, which in this context are the Marines, the peacekeeping administration deployed by the World Government to keep miscreants like pirates and bandits in check. Vice Admiral Garp is presented as the leader of the Marine fleet, chasing Luffy and his straw-hat crew through the East Blue.

Netflix’s “One Piece” has a colorful, vibrant cast filled newcomers like Iñaki Godoy, who plays as Monkey D. Luffy, and some more seasoned actors like Vincent Regan, who plays Vice Admiral Garp. Netflix put in the work (seven years to be exact) to craft its live adaption of the bestselling manga series.
When “One Piece” creator Eiichiro Oda first saw Godoy, he knew that was his Luffy. Each of the cast members have created their own connection to their characters, and some loved and grew up watching them on screen as children.

The following contains spoilers for Netflix's "One Piece."
"One Piece" is the biggest manga in the world for a reason. Eiichiro Oda's magnum opus crafts a vast and fleshed-out world with a sense of history and lore, a story with complex characters and themes, and an epic story told across over a thousand chapters (and counting). Because of the nature of the story and its intricate writing, to even try to condense the scope of the story into seasons of TV — especially the shorter season runs on streaming -- feels like one heck of a challenge.
This is why it was always inevitable that the live-action "One Piece" show on Netflix would make changes to the source material when telling the story of the East Blue Saga that kicks off the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his journey to becoming the King of the Pirates and find the legendary treasure One Piece.

As a school of adaptation, the live-action take on anime and manga is only slightly less cursed than the live-action series or film based on a video game. Yet remarkably, 2023 is set to be a banner year for both. In January, HBO premiered “The Last of Us,” the hit drama that takes the same somber, character-driven approach to a zombie apocalypse as the 2013 game. With rave reviews, major ratings and a raft of Emmy nominations, “The Last of Us” successfully bucked a multi-decade trend. A few months later, “The Super Mario Bros.” movie would repeat the feat at the box office, if not quite with critics.
Netflix may have eyed this trend with some interest as the global streaming service has prepared the launch of “One Piece,” a series adapted from the long-running manga written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. Similar undertakings have a checkered history, a fact Netflix itself...

Ahead of its debut on Thursday, Netflix has released the final trailer for “One Piece” as well as several new photos from the upcoming series.
Whereas the first trailer for the series served as more of an introduction to Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his quest to be King of the Pirates, this final trailer highlights more of the action in the series.
The clip jumps between battle after battle that will appear in the series, each one wilder than the last. There are flinging cannonballs; glimpses of Buggy the Clown (Jeff Ward), a foe who can attack by removing his own body parts; appearances from Arlong (McKinley Belcher III), a fish-man pirate with a saw-like nose; and of course shots of Luffy’s biology-defying and rubbery attacks.
“If the path seems too easy, you’re on the wrong path,” Luffy says in the trailer to his new crew.
