Thinking about a job in broadcast news? The two top spots have long been co-anchoring one of the nation’s big morning programs or leading an evening newscast. These days, there appears to be room for a third.
Each weekday at 1 p.m. on ABC, Amy Robach. T.J. Holmes and Dr. Jennifer Ashton host an afternoon hour of news that seems to be gaining traction. “GMA3: What You Need to Know,” originally launched as an entertainment-focused extension of the Disney network’s “Good Morning America,” but it has evolved. On Monday, the trio opened their hour with a look at how monkeypox is affecting children as well as flooding in the southwest. But there is also room for stories that are less dire: Actor Colman Domingo paid a visit last week, and Fridays feature a segment devoted to faith.

U.K.-based Red Arrow Studios International has finalized a pay-tv rights deal with HBO Nordic for Invercine & Wood and Story House Productions’ Canneseries selection “Dignity,” a political thriller originally broadcast by commissioning partners Mega in Chile and German digital platform Joyn, a streaming service run jointly by Discovery and German media giant ProSiebenSat.
The HBO deal sees the broadcaster take pay-tv and SVOD rights for much of Central and Eastern Europe, Iberia and the Nordics where the series will launch in markets including Spain, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary.
Based on true events, half of “Dignity” unspools at the Chilean camp of post-wwii German cult Colonia Dignidad, headed by the harrowing Paul Schaefer, a former Nazi soldier who fled to rural Chile after the war. Decades later, under a new federal government, fictional Spanish-German bi-lingual prosecutor Leo Ramírez is sent to the colony, tasked...

It’s another presidential election year, and with it we’ve got another Super Tuesday in the Democratic primary. With 14 states and American Samoa holding national and local primaries on March 3, all the news networks will be out in force with special live coverage. And yes, of course, that includes NBC News.
A lot of the Democratic presidential candidates have cleared themselves out of the race ahead of Super Tuesday, which means things are really ramping up and getting serious. So many folks around the country will be tuning in to see if these votes will give us a real frontrunner for the nomination. And NBC News will provide pretty exhaustive coverage, and it’ll all be available to stream for free.
The NBC News Now streaming service will kick things off at 7 p.m. Et/4 p.m. Pt, which is when the first polls close. The streaming-only special will be hosed by Chuck Todd.

Today on Wednesday addressed detailed allegations leveled against disgraced former co-anchor Matt Lauer, who now stands accused of rape.
Lauer, who was famously and abruptly fired by NBC in November 2017 following claims of inappropriate sexual behavior, is now alleged to have anally raped former NBC News staffer Brooke Nevils when they were both in Sochi covering the 2014 Winter Olympics. (Lauer has issued a statement denying the allegation.) According to Ronan Farrow’s new book Catch and Kill, Nevils eventually took her allegations to human resources, but they were characterized as being neither “criminal” nor “assault.” Soon after, her “work life became torture.

Meet the Press and the American Film Institute are staging their annual film festival in Washington on Sunday and Monday, a showcase of documentary shorts touching on issues like climate change, education, and immigration.
But it is taking place as D.C.’s attention, quite obviously, is riveted on something else: the impeachment inquiry and President Donald Trump’s response to it, a fast-moving crisis that is dominating just about every moment on the news channels.
On Thursday, after Trump publicly urged Ukraine and China to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter, Chuck Todd opened Meet the Press Daily by telling viewers that “a national nightmare is upon us,” and that the “basic rules of democracy are under attack from the President.”
Todd said that this type of moment, with an all-dominant story consuming media attention, is “the exact reason” why a film festival makes so much sense for the Meet the Press brand.

Some of the major nominees at Sunday night’s 61st annual Grammy Awards are women working in the genre of country music, from Kacey Musgraves to Margo Price. But those artists still aren’t gaining traction at country radio, an ongoing issue that NBC’s Today Show addressed in its “Sunday Spotlight” segment.
The report centered on the work of the “Girls of Nashville” collective, a group of singer-songwriters, including Caitlyn Smith, Heather Morgan and Mags Duval, who stage regular all-women concerts in Nashville. In the Today clip, they’re shown performing at City Winery,...

Megyn Kelly is out at NBC after a tumultuous week.
In the culmination of a weeklong firestorm following Kelly’s comments about the acceptability of blackface, NBC News has fired Kelly, according to multiple reports but first broken by The Daily Mail. As part of being relieved of her duties as host of “Megyn Kelly Today,” the network will pay out the remainder of her salary, believed to be in the range of $69 million.
On a Tuesday morning segment on “Megyn Kelly Today,” Kelly compared blackface to other non-racially charged costumes, implying that the practice of darkening one’s skin as part of any Halloween outfit wasn’t an inherently racist practice. Kelly issued an email apology later Tuesday morning, followed by an on-air apology on Wednesday’s episode of “Megyn Kelly Today.” Neither of those actions were able to stop a mounting series of pushback against the host, including...

Since joining NBC News in the Spring of 2017, Megyn Kelly has soldiered on at her morning program, “Megyn Kelly Today,” through various social-media controversies; a feud with actress Jane Fonda; scrutiny of her ratings, her guests, her dancing, her everything. Her hard work has been testament to her ability to take a punch and keep working to build an audience.
Now there’s some question about whether Kelly can keep marching.
The Tuesday broadcast of “Megyn Kelly Today” has spurred sentiments of disappointment from media buyers, the executives who allocate billions of dollars of advertising to media properties on behalf of Madison Avenue. Kelly blundered yesterday during a panel discussion on her 9 a.m. program when she made some remarks about dressing up in blackface or whiteface for Halloween. “What is racist?” she asked a panel that included Jenna Bush Hager, Jacob Soboroff and Melissa Rivers. “You do get in...

Updated with video: “I want to begin with two words: ‘I’m sorry’,” NBC News morning show host Megyn Kelly said at the top of her show the morning after she got torched for defending blackface for Halloween.
“Yesterday we had a discussion here about political correctness and Halloween costumes,” she said.
“And that conversation turned to whether it is ever okay for a person of one race to dress up as another – a black person making their race lighter or a white person making theirs darker, to make a costume complete.”
“I defended the idea saying as long as it was respectful, and part of a Halloween costume, it seemed okay.”
“Well I was wrong and I am sorry.”
“One of the great parts of sitting in this chair each day is getting to discuss diff points of view. Sometimes I talk and sometimes I listen, and yesterday I learned.

Megyn Kelly hasn’t been shy about turning recent controversies at NBC News into fodder for her morning program at the network. Now NBC News is doing much the same with a blunder she made on her show Tuesday.
Both “NBC Nightly News” and “Today” have aired segments examining statements Kelly made Tuesday on her 9 a.m. program, “Megyn Kelly Today,” about dressing up in blackface or whiteface for Halloween. “What is racist?” she asked a panel that included Jenna Bush Hager, Jacob Soboroff and Melissa Rivers. “You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface for Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid, that was okay just as long as you were dressing as a character.”
A visibly emotional Kelly opened her broadcast Wednesday with an apology. “I want to open with two words: I’m sorry.

Megyn Kelly came under fire Tuesday for wondering aloud on her morning show why it was inappropriate for white people to dress up in blackface for Halloween. "You do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween," the anchor said during a panel discussion. "Back when I was a kid, that was Ok, as long as you were dressing up as a character." Kelly later apologized to her fellow NBC News staff members via e-mail, which the organization subsequently made public. Today addressed the controversy around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, with Morgan Radford recapping the initial story and the backlash Kelly received. Radford noted that some...
