Basseterre, (St Kitts), Aug 28 (Ians) Veteran off-spinner Sunil Narine became the first cricketer to be shown a red card for over-rate breach in a Caribbean Premier League (Cpl) match for his team Trinbago Knight Riders (Tkr) against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
The ongoing Cpl 2023 saw the organisers introduce new penalties to tackle slow over rates, leading to games ending very late. It said, “if a fielding team starts their 18th over beyond the scheduled time, they would need to bring one extra fielder inside the thirty-yard circle.”
“If they were behind before the start of the 19th over as well, another fielder had to come in, making it just three outside the circle. If the fielding team is still behind before the start of the final over, they would be shown a red card, and be required to send a fielder of their choice off the field.”

New Delhi, May 29 (Ians) Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag spoke on the Ms Dhoni’s potential future, insisting that the Chennai Super Kings (Csk) skipper will either continue to play as a first-team player, or will retire as he does not meet the criteria set by the Impact Player rule.
Speculations regarding Dhoni’s potential retirement have been circulating ever since the commencement of 2023 Ipl, hinting that this edition could mark his final appearance in the tournament.
Csk’s bowling coach Dwayne Bravo has earlier expressed his belief that the recently introduced Impact Player rule in the Ipl could contribute to the extension of Ms Dhoni’s tenure with the yellow army.
However, Sehwag holds a differing opinion. Speaking to Cricbuzz, the former opener said that Dhoni is only playing because of his captaincy and the Impact Player rule is for specific players.
“Impact Player rule doesn’t apply on Ms Dhoni.

New Delhi, May 24 (Ians) Dwayne Bravo expressed his belief that the recently introduced Impact Player rule in the Ipl could contribute to the extension of Ms Dhoni’s tenure with the Chennai Super Kings (Csk).
Dhoni led the Super Kings to a 15-run win over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier one of Ipl 2023 at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium on Tuesday. With this win, Csk have reached a record 10th Ipl final.
Speaking to Star Sports, Bravo said the Impact Player rule in the Ipl provides Dhoni with an opportunity to extend his Ipl career, and he further highlighted Csk skipper’s unparalleled skill of maintaining a calm and composed demeanor during high-pressure situations.
“Hundred per cent (will he return to play for Csk in 2024?), especially with the Impact Player rule. He can keep prolonging his career. We bat really deep. I think the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube, these guys make a huge difference.

New Delhi, May 11 (Ians) Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan feels young Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana has genuine pace and he is a perfect replacement for star West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in four time Ipl champions Chennai Super Kings team.

Agarwal was named as the captain of Punjab Kings for Ipl 2022 and was retained by the franchise for a whopping Inr 12 crores. But a promotion to leadership didn’t lead to a truckload of runs with the bat as he scored just 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 16.33.
On the leadership front, he didn’t fare well as Punjab ended the season at sixth place in the ten-team points table. In November, Agarwal was released by the side after the announcement came of Shikhar Dhawan replacing him as captain of Punjab Kings, with Trevor Bayliss replacing Anil Kumble as head coach.
"He (Mayank) will definitely go big. If anybody doesn’t pick him, I will be very disappointed because he is sort of an explosive player. I know he is probably hurt within himself that he has not been retained by Punjab Kings after what he has sacrificed for...

New Delhi, Dec 20 (Ians) Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa shared his thoughts on the list of players Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings would look at, during the Ipl Player Auction on December 23.
Uthappa said Kkr needs to find a backup for Andre Russell.
“Kkr would be looking for three players in this auction — one would be an Indian backup wicketkeeper for Gurbaz. In case, they want flexibility in playing both Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson, Gurbaz is the one who would have to sit out as they are not going to drop Sunil Narine and Andre Russell,” said Uthappa, who is part of JioCinema’s Ipl Player Auction Expert Panel.
“Second player is a backup to Andre Russell. Ipl is going back to its original format. So, it is not going to be just one or two venues. There will be a lot of travel. Kkr is one...
